  1. Cream butter and sugar till fluffy. Add in egg yolks to butter/sugar mix and beat till fluffy again. Heat chocolate in boiling water and stir till well blended; then add in to butter, large eggs and sugar and mix just till well blended. Sift flour, soda, and salt together.Add in flour alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mix, starting and ending with flour. Add in coconut and nuts and fold in. Mix in egg whites that have been beaten till meringue-like. Bake in 3 layers at 325 to 350 degrees, depending on oven.
  2. Mix sugar and water. Bring to boil and let boil 1 minute. Add in coconut and bring to boil again. Boil about 2 to 3 min longer. Remove from heat. Spoon over cake layers that have been cooled. Stack layers using white frosting to decorate if you like.
