French Onion Soup Gratinee

Ingredientes

  • 1/4 c. Butter or possibly margarine
  • 3 lrg onions, sliced (4 C)
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. All purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 c. Water
  • 1/2 c. Red wine
  • 2 can Condensed beef broth French bread
  • 8 ounce Swiss cheese slices

Direcciones

  1. In a 4 qt saucepan over medium heat in warm butter, cook onions and sugar for 10 min.
  2. Stir in flour till well blended with the onions and the pan juices.
  3. Add in water, wine, and undiluted beef broth; heat to boiling.
  4. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 10 min.
  5. Cut four 1 inch thick slices of bread from loaf. Toast in 325F oven just till lightly browned, about 10 min.
  6. Ladle soup into 4 oven safe bowls and place 1 slice toasted bread on surface of soup in each bowl.
  7. Fold Swiss cheese slices and fit onto toasted bread slices in soup.
  8. Place soup bowls in pan for easier handling. Bake in 425F oven for10 min or possibly just till cheese is melted.
