Dear Food Diary:
March 28th was our 3rd anniversary and the day we decided to make it legal. We’ve been planning our wedding ever since the proposal. And though the real celebration won’t be until June, StalkerBoy and I decided to do City Hall first.
Afterwards, he picked this beautiful lunch spot – Isola Mondrian Soho to toast the start of our special day. One of the prettiest outdoor dining rooms I’ve seen, even on a rainy day, it looked gorgeous. The entrance was perfect for the capturing special day.
The food was good too.
It felt like walking into a chic and modern greenhouse.

%20will%20let%20me%20post%20of%20him.%20Our%20cousin%20Y%20art%20directed%20the%20shot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDear%20Food%20Diary:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMarch%2028th%20was%20our%203rd%20anniversary%20and%20the%20day%20we%20decided%20to%20make%20it%20legal.%20We%E2%80%99ve%20been%20planning%20our%20wedding%20ever%20since%20the%20proposal.%20And%20though%20the%20real%20celebration%20won%E2%80%99t%20be%20until%20June,%20StalkerBoy%20and%20I%20decided%20to%20do%20City%20Hall%20first.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfterwards,%20he%20picked%20this%20beautiful%20lunch%20spot%20%E2%80%93%20Isola%20Mondrian%20Soho%20to%20toast%20the%20start%20of%20our%20special%20day.%20One%20of%20the%20prettiest%20outdoor%20dining%20rooms%20I%E2%80%99ve%20seen,%20even%20on%20a%20rainy%20day,%20it%20looked%20gorgeous.%20The%20entrance%20was%20perfect%20for%20the%20capturing%20special%20day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20food%20was%20good%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20felt%20like%20walking%20into%20a%20chic%20and%20modern%20greenhouse.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBright%20and%20airy.%20I%E2%80%99m%20so%20over%20these%20tiny%20little%20tables%20at%20restaurants%20with%20no%20where%20to%20sit%20comfortably%20or%20chat.%20Having%20space%20for%20a%20change%20felt%20wonderful.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChandeliers%20and%20a%20suspended%20glass%20still%20life%20above.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENight%20time%20should%20be%20pretty%20magical%20in%20here.%20Great%20place%20for%20a%20ladies%20brunch%20or%20to%20impress%20a%20date.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBeing%20mesmerized%20by%20the%20decor%20and%20setting,%20I%20was%20a%20little%20skeptical%20about%20the%20food.%20Italian%20Coastal.%20Isola%20Trattoria%20&%20Crudo%20Bar,%20honestly%20I%20was%20anticipating%20some%20overpriced,%20pretty%20looking%20plates%20that%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20deliver%20on%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGladly%20proven%20wrong.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETuna%20Carpaccio%20Pizza%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20have%20thought%20of%20putting%20raw%20fish%20on%20warm%20dough,%20but%20it%20somehow%20just%20worked.%20The%20base%20was%20nice%20and%20crusty,%20holding%20up%20the%20medley%20of%20ingredients%20nicely.%20The%20soft%20robiola%20cheese%20didn%E2%80%99t%20overpower%20the%20fresh%20tuna%20%E2%80%93%20not%20fatty,%20but%20still%20managed%20to%20melt%20in%20my%20mouth.%20I%20loved%20the%20garlic%20chips%20with%20the%20sweetness%20of%20caramelized%20onions,%20pickled%20eggplant%20and%20some%20arugula%20to%20break%20the%20creamy%20caper%20aioli.%20This%20paired%20well%20with%20my%20fruity%20riesling.%20It%20felt%20like%20a%20%E2%80%9Clight%E2%80%9D%20option,%20though%20maybe%20it%20wasn%E2%80%99t.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGarganelli%20Bolognese%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDidn%E2%80%99t%20sound%20very%20exciting%20but%20the%20flavors%20were%20robust%20and%20lush.%20Very%20meaty,%20the%20pasta%20was%20al%20dente%20and%20the%20shaved%20ricotta%20added%20richness%20without%20taking%20the%20spotlight%20or%20adding%20saltiness.%20Heartiest%20of%20the%203%20dishes%20we%20had.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESmoked%20Ricotta%20Ravioli%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESmaller%20than%20what%20we%20expected%20but%20the%20flavors%20were%20fantastic.%20The%20roasted%20tomatoes%20had%20the%20harmonious%20sweet%20and%20tart%20play.%20Thick%20and%20ever%20present.%20The%20raviolis%20were%20light%20and%20delicate.%20Braised%20chicken%20on%20top%20got%20a%20little%20lost,%20but%20we%20didn%E2%80%99t%20mind%20it%20along%20the%20spicy%20broccoli%20rage%20and%20crunchy%20bread%20crumbs.%20Lots%20of%20fun%20textures%20packed%20in%20one%20bite.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETiramisu%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20version%20is%20a%20little%20different%20from%20a%20classic%20take.%20I%20found%20it%20less%20creamy.%20The%20mascarpone%20gelato%20was%20nice%20but%20some%20parts%20were%20a%20bit%20icy.%20Overall%20it%20was%20ok,%20but%20I%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20licking%20my%20spoon%20with%20ooohs%20and%20ahhhs%20.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETartufo%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStalkerHubby%20totally%20enjoyed%20this.%20All%20his%20favorites%20in%20one%20plate%20%E2%80%93%20fudge%20brownies,%20hazelnut%20gelato,%20salted%20caramel%20cream%20and%20hot%20fudge.%20I%20liked%20a%20few%20spoonfuls,%20but%20it%20was%20too%20much%20after%20that.%20Overly%20sweet%20for%20my%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOverall,%20we%20had%20a%20lovely%20lunch%20and%20Isola%20will%20hold%20a%20special%20place%20in%20our%20hearts.%20I%20hear%20the%20cocktails%20are%20really%20good%20and%20they%20have%20DJ%E2%80%99s%20and%20parties%20at%20nights.%20Can%E2%80%99t%20wait%20to%20be%20back.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%E2%80%99s%20one%20of%20those%20rare%20cases%20that%20the%20ambiance%20and%20mood%20of%20the%20day%20might%20have%20made%20the%20experience%20even%20more%20enjoyable.%20Regardless,%20it%20helped%20bump%20it%20up%20to%20a%204%20Chubby%20for%20me%20(normally%20maybe%20a%203.75)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EP.S.%20Chubby%E2%80%99s%20Rating:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eisolasoho.com%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E9%20Crosby%20St.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E212.389.0000%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
