Acerca de mí
I currently live in Tucson, AZ with my husband Michael who is a fabulous musician, composer and music teacher. I am originally from Newberry, SC where my family has lived since the mid 18th Century.
My mother was a very traditional Southern cook. She loved cooking and was always preparing meals for holidays. I began to look over recipes she had collected and handed down over the years. My nephew, another excellent cook, had become the curator of her recipe library when she became ill. At one time her collection of cookbooks numbered in the hundreds. Few of them were the slick tomes of celebrity chefs, instead most were recipe collections from families, churches, civic groups, and schools. From these simple and delicious family favorites she would choose the best and present them with love.
Among those books were hundreds upon hundreds of handwritten recipes she had traded over the years. Jotted on slips of paper, backs of envelopes, even deposit slips and receipts, these jewels represented the best of her collection. Among them are some of the recipes shared on my blog, notably “Gert’s Mama’s Pound Cake” which was jotted on a tiny piece of paper pulled from a pad and “Mardi Gras Cake” which she got on a trip to New Orleans from the housekeeper in our suite and jotted on a piece of hotel stationery.
I am a liver transplant recipient (2007) and a volunteer promoting organ and tissue donation.
