I am a divorced mom, raising 4 crazy kids (ages 17,15,13,9) in Sheboygan, WI. I enjoy cooking, however my kids will tell you that I can burn water. So, I guess I'm not the best at it. When my children were younger, I was a great cook. I had a large social circle that would come over regularly and I would cook large meals that everyone loved. But, I guess, having picky eaters has ruined any enthusiasm that I once had for cooking. Working hard to cook a meal and then having the ones your cooking for cry big crocodile tears and scream, "Ewww, Gross!!", tends to destroy any desire to keep working hard at it. So, I became a mom that cooked from "out of the box" for about the last 10-12 years. But now I am trying to cook healthy for us and I am at such a loss!! I am trying to go MSG free as well as gluten free. My sister switched her families diet over to MSG/gluten free and it went really well. Her husband and all 6 of her kids (all under age 11) adapted really well. They have never been healthier and felt better. My sister has even lost quite a bit of weight. So, I'm trying to figure this diet out now. I have an autonomic disorder that has given me problems with low-thyroid, fibromyalga, narcolepsy, ect. I'm tired of being extremely worn out and aching all the time. I'm desperate to feel good. I want to wake up in the morning and jump out of bed, feeling good, ready to start my day. I'm really hoping this diet will help me accomplish that! And I'm making my kids do it too! They're not real happy about it, but want to make changes in themselves too. So, we'll see how it goes!!

My mom. She's a great cook and she loves doing it! She's amazing with all the things she can come up with! We all tell her she needs to open a restaurant. She currently has been running a hot lunch program at my kids Christian School. She coordinates 200 healthy meals a day and the kids and parents love it! (And these meals are not slopped food on a tray!) And she does it all by herself! She is definitely the one who has influenced me the most with cooking!
Another thing that influences me with cooking is Haitian food. I went to Haiti 3 weeks after the earthquake to help out with relief in a small mountain town, Marche-Canard. I fell in love with the people there and their way of life and their food. I love to cook 'diri ak pwa' or rice and beans, 'bannann fri' or fried plantains, 'franse pen' or french bread along with several other dishes.
