Acerca de mí
I was a picky eater as a child in Minnesota! However, I did learn to cook from my mom, unlike many of my generation, and then by necessity when my parents divorced and my mom worked, so I often took over cooking. Prior to that, my mom went though the "hippie" period for a couple of years where we grew all our own food, including raising our own chickens--essentially the organic, locavore style I enjoy today in San Francisco. It taught me to appreciate how and where our food comes from though, and the labor it requires.
The other man food tradition I learned in Minnesota came from my Scandinavian heritage, and all the yummy recipes I learned from my grandmother and great-grandmother, especially at Christmastime. I have left behind the "hot dishes" (casseroles) for the most part!
Influencias de Cocina
My first influences with food came from the history you see above in "About me." Many of my other current food loves come from travel--a year spent in Paris and traveling all over Europe, trips to China, Japan, and back to Europe a few times, Mexico, etc. I love variety, and my neighborhood in San Francisco certainly provides inspiration to try new things as well as all the other areas in the city and elsewhere in California. Basically, I'll try anything once, and then often improvise!
