.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGambas%20al%20Ajillo%20de%20Jos%C3%A9%20Andr%C3%A9s%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOurs%20is%20not%20a%20football%20home%20so%20the%20Super%20Bowl%20is%20not%20appointment%20television%20unless%20the%20Eagles%20happen%20to%20find%20themselves%20playing%20in%20the%20game,%20so%20it%E2%80%99s%20seldom%20that%20you%E2%80%99ll%20find%20us%20gathered%20around%20the%20television%20to%20watch%20the%20game,%20even%20to%20watch%20the%20commercials.%20That%20isn%E2%80%99t%20to%20say%20that%20we%20don%E2%80%99t%20celebrate%20in%20our%20way,%20often%20seeing%20the%20game%20as%20the%20perfect%20excuse%20to%20make%20a%20big%20pot%20of%20chili,%20but%20we%E2%80%99re%20just%20as%20likely%20to%20nosh%20it%20while%20watching%20a%20movie.%20Besides:%20I%E2%80%99m%20looking%20forward%20to%20the%20third%20week%20in%20April%20as%20that%20will%20mark%20two%20meetups%20between%20FC%20Barcelona%20and%20Real%20Madrid%20in%20the%20span%20of%20three%20days%20for%20El%20Cl%C3%A1sico%20and%20the%20final%20of%20the%20Copa%20del%20Rey.%20You%E2%80%99ll%20likely%20think%20that%20I%E2%80%99m%20nuts,%20but%20I%E2%80%99m%20already%20planning%20on%20what%20we%E2%80%99re%20going%20to%20have%20for%20dinner%20on%20those%20two%20days%E2%80%A6but%20I%20digress.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGambas%20al%20Ajillo%20de%20Jos%C3%A9%20Andr%C3%A9s%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChili%20was%20not%20the%20order%20of%20the%20day%20this%20year;%20Michael%20had%20been%20harboring%20a%20craving%20for%20chicken%20wings%20despite%20enjoying%20several%20last%20weekend%20at%20Dinosaur%20Barbecue,%20so%20the%20challenge%20became%20what%20to%20serve%20with%20them%20as%20nothing%20seemed%20to%20really%20fit:%20burgers%20were%20too%20easy%20and%20neither%20of%20us%20were%20in%20the%20mood%20to%20deep-fry%20potatoes,%20we%20had%20tacos%20the%20previous%20evening,%20and%20any%20other%20dish%20I%20looked%20at%20while%20flipping%20through%20books%20just%20did%20not%20seem%20to%20be%20a%20good%20fit%20with%20them%20at%20all.%20A%20recent%20bout%20of%20stomach%20flu%20for%20Michael%20had%20him%20request%20nothing%20rich,%20braised,%20or%20stewed,%20and%20my%20frustration%20grew%20with%20every%20recipe%20I%20flipped%20to,%20read%20and%20subsequently%20rejected.%20When%20he%20came%20back%20from%20the%20gym%20I%20mentioned%20needing%20some%20help,%20but%20as%20soon%20as%20I%20made%20that%20admission%20I%20threw%20out%20the%20suggestion%20of%20tapas%20and%20suddenly%20we%20both%20realized%20that%20we%20had%20our%20answer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFritos%20de%20Queso%20Gruy%C3%A8re%20y%20Bacon%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBack%20on%20the%20shelf%20did%20the%20other%20cookbooks%20go%20(well,%20they%20did%20eventually)%20and%20out%20came%20The%20Book%20of%20Tapas.%20I%20picked%20out%20three%20that%20seemed%20like%20fun%20and%20we%20ended%20up%20making%20two:%20Gruy%C3%A8re%20cheese%20wrapped%20in%20bacon%20and%20garlic%20shrimp%20as%20done%20by%20Jos%C3%A9%20Andr%C3%A9s.%20Las%20gambas%20al%20ajillo%20served%20as%20a%20perfect%20starter%20to%20the%20evening:%20light%20and%20easy%20to%20cook,%20they%20were%20a%20nice%20counterpoint%20to%20the%20richer%20food%20we%E2%80%99d%20soon%20be%20feasting%20on.%20What%20made%20this%20a%20little%20more%20special%20was%20the%20addition%20of%20brandy%E2%80%94in%20our%20case%20cognac%E2%80%94w%20which%20gave%20the%20shrimp%20an%20ever-so-slightly%20soused%20taste%20that%20was%20also%20a%20little%20warm%20and%20spicy,%20making%20them%20not%20completely%20inappropriate%20to%20enjoy%20when%20there%E2%80%99s%20so%20much%20snow%20and%20ice%20on%20the%20ground.%20There%E2%80%99s%20a%20reason%20why%20Jos%C3%A9%20Andr%C3%A9s%20is%20revered%20as%20one%20of%20the%20premiere%20Spanish%20chefs%20working%20in%20the%20U.S.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFritos%20de%20Queso%20Gruy%C3%A8re%20y%20Bacon%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20I%20spent%20a%20good%20fifteen%20minutes%20peeling%20off%20strips%20of%20bacon%20and%20wrapping%20them%20around%20blocks%20of%20Gruy%C3%A8re%20cheese%20and%20spearing%20them%20with%20toothpicks,%20Michael%20generously%20offered%20to%20cook%20them%20so%20I%20could%20enjoy%20some%20of%20his%20amazing%20wings%20in%20between%20these%20courses.%20That%E2%80%99s%20really%20all%20you%20do%E2%80%94slice%20%C2%BD%20inch%20wide%20slices%20of%20bacon%20cheese%20that%20are%20a%20little%20longer%20than%20the%20width%20of%20the%20bacon,%20and%20wrap%20each%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20keep%20tantalizing%20you%20about%20those%20wings,%20don%E2%80%99t%20I?%20Well,%20I%E2%80%99ll%20just%20let%20Michael%20take%20that%20one%20on%20as%20they%20were%20his%20wings,%20after%20all%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGambas%20al%20Ajillo%20de%20Jos%C3%A9%20Andr%C3%A9s%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eadapted%20from%20The%20Book%20of%20Tapas%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%202%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20large%20skillet,%20heat%20olive%20oil%20over%20medium-high%20heat.%20Add%20garlic%20and%20cook%20until%20browned.%20Add%20chile%20and%20shrimp,%20but%20don%E2%80%99t%20stir;%20let%20shrimp%20cook%20on%20one%20side%20for%20two%20minutes.%20Turn%20shrimp%20over%20and%20cook%20the%20other%20side%20for%20another%202%20minutes%20or%20so.%20Remove%20from%20heat,%20add%20brand%20or%20cognac,%20return%20to%20heat%20and%20cook%20for%20another%20minute%20until%20most%20of%20the%20liquid%20has%20evaporated.%20Remove%20the%20shrimp,%20place%20into%20serving%20dishes,%20garnish%20with%20parsley%20and%20serve%20immediately.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
