.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPasta%20e%20ceci:%20%20a%20simple,%20comforting%20meal%20to%20make%20for%20one%20or%20for%20a%20whole%20crew%20of%20people.%20%20After%20many%20days%20of%20traveling%20this%20past%20week,%20it%20feels%20right%20to%20ruminate%20over%20a%20dish%20that%20can%20accommodate%20anyone%20with%20the%20energy%20to%20chop%20some%20garlic,%20open%20a%20can%20of%20chickpeas,%20and%20boil%20some%20pasta%E2%80%93even%20after%20a%20particularly%20long%20commute.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEach%20way,%20door-to-door,%20my%20daily%20trudge%20to%20and%20from%20work%20takes%20about%20an%20hour%20and%20a%20half%20each%20way:%20%20not%20exactly%20an%20insignificant%20amount%20of%20time%20spent%20in%20transit%20five%20days%20a%20week.%20%20Michael%E2%80%99s%20walk%20to%20work%20is%20much,%20much%20shorter%E2%80%93a%20quick%20walk%20that%20usually%20lasts%20between%20one%20or%20two%20iPod%20songs%20and%20just%20a%20handful%20of%20blocks.%20%20It%20should%20be%20no%20surprise%20then,%20that%20he%20is%20the%20mastermind%20in%20the%20kitchen%20during%20week%E2%80%93the%20only%20exceptions%20are%20when%20I%E2%80%99m%20off%20during%20the%20day%20or%20when%20he%20has%20to%20stay%20late%20at%20work%20for%20one%20reason%20or%20another.%20%20Neither%20occurs%20all%20that%20often,%20but%20last%20week%20an%20experiment%20he%20was%20working%20on%20kept%20him%20at%20the%20lab%20until%208-ish,%20leaving%20me%20on%20my%20own%20in%20the%20kitchen.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20a%20damp,%20kind%20of%20gross%20day%E2%80%93much%20like%20today%20actually%E2%80%93%20and%20I%20had%20no%20desire%20to%20even%20trudge%20downstairs%20to%20Appletree%20to%20get%20provisions,%20therefore%20leaving%20me%20to%20what%20we%20had%20on%20hand.%20%20After%20a%20quick%20survey%20of%20the%20cabinets%20and%20fridge,%20I%20decided%20that%20pasta%20e%20ceci%20would%20be%20the%20perfect%20meal%20to%20make:%20%20something%20I%20could%20make%20in%20bulk%20to%20take%20to%20work%20the%20next%20day%20and%20also%20leave%20some%20for%20Michael%20to%20nibble%20on%20whenever%20he%20came%20home%20that%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMacaroni%20e%20Ceci%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eserves%204-6,%20or%202%20with%20many%20leftovers%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20water%20to%20a%20boil,%20add%20salt%20and%20then%20pasta;%20cook%20a%20minute%20or%20two%20less%20than%20the%20package%20directions.%20%20Drain%20and%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20frying%20pan,%20add%20some%20olive%20oil%20(you%20can%20also%20use%20the%20oil%20from%20the%20anchovies),%20all%20in%20all%20about%203-4%20tablespoons%20and%20heat%20over%20medium%20heat.%20%20When%20the%20oil%20starts%20to%20sizzle,%20add%20the%20anchovy%20and%20garlic;%20heat%20until%20the%20garlic%20is%20golden%20and%20reduce%20the%20heat%20a%20little%20to%20keep%20the%20garlic%20from%20burning.%20%20Add%20the%20chickpeas%20and%20cook%20for%20about%20a%20minute%20or%20two,%20then%20add%20about%20a%20half%20of%20the%20vermouth.%20%20Season%20gently%20with%20salt%20and%20let%20the%20vermouth%20cook%20down%20a%20little.%20%20Add%20the%20pasta%20into%20the%20pan,%20toss%20with%20the%20other%20ingredients,%20and%20add%20more%20vermouth%20to%20taste%20in%20order%20to%20create%20the%20amount%20of%20sauce%20you%E2%80%99d%20like%E2%80%93just%20taste%20as%20you%20go,%20and%20allow%20a%20little%20time%20for%20the%20alcohol%20to%20cook%20out%20with%20each%20splash%20of%20more%20vermouth.%20%20When%20pasta%20is%20to%20your%20liking,%20take%20it%20off%20the%20heat%20and%20serve,%20sprinkling%20it%20with%20some%20cheese%20and%20chives.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20a%20few%20bites%20and%20a%20moment%20of%20reflection%20on%20his%20part%20once%20he%20arrived%20home,%20Michael%20declared%20that%20I%20was%20now%20in%20charge%20of%20making%20pasta.%20%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20if%20that%20will%20really%20hold%20up%20(after%20all,%20we%20are%20limiting%20ourselves,%20or%20trying%20to%20at%20least,%20to%20one%20night%20a%20week)%20but%20it%20was%20a%20lovely%20compliment%20all%20the%20same%20for%20an%20otherwise%20humble%20meal.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
