%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemember%20this%20from%20a%20year%20ago?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpain%20winning%20the%202010%20World%20Cup,%20July%2011%202010%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOh,%20I%20still%20do.%20I%20can%20still%20remember%20the%20emotions%20when%20I%20watched%20that%20game%20a%20year%20ago%20(when%20this%20posts):%20I%20can%20still%20feel%20how%20I%20was%20wracked%20with%20anxiety,%20willing%20the%20Spaniards%20to%20overcome%20that%20whole%20%E2%80%9Cno%20team%20has%20ever%20won%20a%20World%20Cup%20when%20they%20lost%20their%20first%20group%20game%E2%80%9D%20statistic%20and%20win%20against%20the%20Netherlands.%20And%20then%20Andres%20Iniesta%20scored%20and%20it%20was%20amazing%20and%20wonderful%20and%20Iker%20Casillas%20started%20to%20cry%20in%20happiness.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20this%20happened%20yesterday:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20USA%20triumphs%20over%20aversity.%20(click%20picture%20for%20source)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20was%20a%20quarterfinal%20game,%20yet%20it%20was%20treated%20like%20a%20semi-final%20or%20a%20final:%20the%20number-one-ranked%20team%20in%20the%20world%20versus%20the%20number-one-ranked%20player%20in%20the%20world%20(that%20would%20be%20Marta),%20and%20it%20was%20rife%20with%20controversy%20thanks%20to%20some%20really%20bad%20calls%20from%20the%20ref%20and%20some%20childish%20behavior%20from%20the%20Brazilians%20during%20the%20extra%20time%20in%20order%20to%20run%20out%20the%20clock.%20But%20then%20a%20(literally)%20last-minute%20goal%20thanks%20to%20the%20combined%20powers%20of%20Megan%20Rapione%20and%20Abby%20Wambach%20tied%20up%20the%20game%20at%20120%20minutes%20of%20play,%20and%20%20then%20the%20team%20dominated%20the%20penalty%20kicks.%20It%20was%20an%20American%20triumph%20at%20its%20cheesy-80s-sports-movie-best,%20and%20dammit,%20it%20was%20amazing.%20That%20it%20fell%20on%20the%2012th%20anniversary%20of%20the%20women%E2%80%99s%20team%20WC%20win%20in%201999%20in%20Pasadena%20was%20the%20icing%20on%20the%20cake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20we%20made%20some%20delicious%20food%20seems%20almost%20secondary,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20the%20last%20home-cooked%20food%20I%E2%80%99ll%20have%20until%20Thursday%20(as%20I%E2%80%99m%20off%20to%20Chicago)%20so%20we%20reached,%20we%20shot,%20and%20I%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20be%20happier%20with%20the%20results.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETorrada%20Mallorquina%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20started%20out%20with%20simple%20Majorcan%20Toasts%20(we%E2%80%99ve%20made%20them%20before),%20and%20seriously%E2%80%93bread%20smeared%20with%20soft%20pork%20product%20and%20then%20topped%20with%20tomatoes%20is%20the%20thing%20to%20serve%20if%20you%20want%20to%20impress%20people%20but%20don%E2%80%99t%20put%20in%20a%20ton%20of%20work.%20Because%20the%20main%20work%20you%20need%20to%20do%20is%20to%20source%20the%20sobrasada%E2%80%93I%20can%20get%20it%20at%20Despana%20of%20course,%20but%20you%20might%20have%20to%20factor%20in%20shipping%20time%20to%20get%20it%20from%20a%20shop%20like%20Tienda.com.%20A%20dash%20of%20sugar%20with%20olive%20oil%20works%20here%E2%80%93it%20gives%20tomatoes%20that%20aren%E2%80%99t%20at%20their%20absolute%20best%20a%20boost%20of%20sweetness%20and%20really%20good%20olive%20oil%20makes%20it%20all%20work%20so%20damn%20well.%20It%E2%80%99s%20like%20the%20traditional%20Italian%20tomato%20topping%20for%20bruschetta%E2%80%A6but%20made%20better%20with%20the%20addition%20of%20pork.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETortilla%20de%20Vegetales%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMichael%20suggested%20making%20a%20tortilla,%20so%20he%20pulled%20out%20what%20veggies%20we%20had%20on%20hand%20and%20chopped%20them%20up%20and%20turned%20them%20into%20a%20tortilla.%20It%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20the%20most%20aesthetically%20pleasing%20tortilla%20as%20part%20of%20it%20fell%20apart%20when%20he%20took%20it%20out%20of%20the%20pan,%20but%20it%20worked.%20And%20now%20Michael%20has%20a%20good%20two%20days%20of%20tortilla%20sandwiches%20ahead%20of%20him%20and%20I%20have%20none.%20This%20makes%20me%20super-sad%20and%20completely%20green%20with%20envy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll-i-Pebre%20de%20Llagostins%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20last%20dish%20was%20one%20that%20I%20found%20in%20Catalan%20Cuisine%20and%20was%E2%80%A6interesting%20to%20say%20the%20least:%20the%20ingredient%20list%20is%20relatively%20short,%20but%20there%20is%20some%20effort%20that%20goes%20into%20the%20dish;%20namely,%20the%20picada.%20You%20grind%20together%20pine%20nuts%20(pistachios%20in%20our%20case%20as%20Fairway%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20carry%20pine%20nuts%20in%20the%20bulk%20section),%20minced%20garlic%20and%20parsley%20in%20order%20to%20make%20a%20paste,%20and%20then%20you%20add%20a%20little%20cooking%20liquid%20to%20make%20it%20all%20come%20together%20neatly%20and%20then%20put%20it%20into%20a%20pan%20of%20seafood%20stock,%20garlic-flavored%20oil%20and%20cayenne%20pepper%20before%20you%20add%20the%20shrimp%20to%20simmer.%20It%E2%80%99s%20unexpected,%20to%20say%20the%20least,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20delicious%20and%20messy%20and%20summer-like%20and%20wonderful.%20This%20is%20a%20dish%20for%20this%20time%20of%20year,%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20unexpected%20and%20gloriously%20Catalan%20and%20you%20should%20try%20it%20when%20you%E2%80%99re%20craving%20something%20new%20and%20different%20for%20shrimp.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll-i-Pebre%20de%20Llagostins%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20Catalan%20Cuisine%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eserves%202%20as%20part%20of%20a%20tapa%20spread%20for%20dinner;%20could%20easily%20serve%203%20or%204%20with%20a%20bigger%20spread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20slices%20fried%20French%20baguette%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20lb%20shrimp,%20shells%20on.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20oil%20to%20a%20large%20saute%20pan%20and%20bring%20to%20medium%20heat.%20Add%20garlic%20and%20saute%20for%20ten%20minutes,%20using%20a%20splash%20guard,%20so%20the%20garlic%20flavors%20the%20oil.%20Discard%20the%20garlic.%20Add%20the%20seafood%20stock%20and%20cayenne%20pepper%20and%20season%20with%20sea%20salt.%20Simmer%20for%20another%20ten%20minutes.%20Meanwhile,%20process%20the%20pistachios,%20minced%20garlic%20and%20parsley%20using%20a%20mortar%20and%20pestle%20or%20a%20stick%20blender.%20Add%20some%20hot%20cooking%20liquid%20to%20help%20make%20into%20a%20paste%20and%20then%20add%20that%20at%20the%20end%20of%20the%20ten%20minutes%20of%20cooking.%20Add%20the%20shrimp%20(shells%20and%20all)%20and%20simmer%20for%20another%205-6%20minutes%20until%20shrimp%20are%20pink.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
