%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELorraine%20Pascale%E2%80%99s%20pan-seared%20mascarpone%20gnocchi%20%7C%20The%20Manhattan%20[food]%20Project%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20years,%20my%20normal%20weekend%20morning%20ritual%20has%20been%20parking%20myself%20on%20the%20couch%20and%20watching%20cooking%20shows%20while%20I%20figured%20out%20what%20we%20were%20making%20that%20night%20for%20dinner.%20There%20were%20shows%20I%20loved,%20those%20I%20tolerated,%20and%20others%20I%20would%20either%20tune%20out%20or%20treat%20as%20open%20season%20for%20my%20snarking.%20As%20the%20Food%20Network%20specifically%20has%20moved%20further%20and%20further%20away%20from%20its%20traditional%20dump-and-stir%20shows,%20the%20ratio%20of%20shows%20I%20actually%20love%20and%20derive%20inspiration%20from%20to%20those%20I%20mock%20has%20tipped%20wildly%20towards%20the%20latter%20category%20so%20when%20Cooking%20Channel%20was%20once%20again%20made%20available%20through%20my%20cable%20provider%20I%20was%20thrilled.%20Not%20only%20would%20regular%20reruns%20of%20Good%20Eats%20be%20back%20on%20our%20TV,%20but%20I%20was%20excited%20to%20see%20what%20new%20shows%20have%20come%20on%20since%20we%20last%20had%20the%20channel%20three%20years%20ago.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdmittedly,%20anything%20I%E2%80%99ve%20seen%20that%E2%80%99s%20been%20produced%20by%20the%20channel%20hasn%E2%80%99t%20blown%20me%20away,%20but%20two%20hosts%20from%20the%20BBC%20have%20left%20me%20delighted:%20Lorraine%20Pascale%20(currently%20of%20Lorraine%E2%80%99s%20Fast,%20Fresh%20and%20Easy%20Food%20and%20Rachel%20Khoo%20(Rachel%20Khoo%E2%80%99s%20Kitchen%20Notebook:%20London%20and%20Little%20Paris%20Kitchen:%20Cooking%20with%20Rachel%20Khoo).%20Unlike%20certain%20cooking%20hosts%20out%20there,%20both%20Rachel%20and%20Lorraine%20primarily%20cook%20food%20from%20scratch%20without%20being%20overly%20fussy%20or%20precious%20about%20it,%20and%20the%20recipes%20they%20present%20are%20actually%20interesting.%20My%20one%20complaint%20is%20that%20not%20every%20recipe%20is%20readily%20available%20online%20(Lorraine%E2%80%99s%20are%20a%20little%20easier%20to%20track%20down)%20so%20if%20something%20intrigues%20me%20I%E2%80%99ll%20sit%20with%20my%20notebook%20and%20furiously%20write%20down%20the%20ingredients%20and%20instructions,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20also%20refreshing%20to%20be%20engaged%20with%20a%20cooking%20show%20again%20so%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20really%20complaining.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPan-seared%20mascarpone%20gnocchi.%20%7C%20The%20Manhattan%20[food]%20Project%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELorraine%E2%80%99s%20Fast,%20Fresh%20and%20Easy%20Food%20has%20only%20been%20airing%20for%20a%20few%20weeks%20now%20but%20already%20I%E2%80%99ve%20made%20three%20things%20that%20derive%20direct%20inspiration%20from%20her%20show,%20like%20a%20harissa-spiked%20hummus,%20or%20bucatini%20with%20chorizo%20in%20a%20tomato-red%20wine%20sauce,%20or%20most%20recently%20her%20mascarpone%20gnocchi.%20With%20Michael%20out%20of%20town%20last%20week%20for%20a%20few%20days%20for%20work%20it%20was%20the%20perfect%20time%20to%20give%20this%20recipe%20a%20try,%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20really%20glad%20I%20did.%20The%20pan-seared%20dumplings%20kind%20of%20resemble%20poofy%20Cheez-Its%20when%20they%20are%20finished,%20and%20tossed%20either%20with%20pesto%20(as%20prescribed)%20or%20even%20just%20some%20butter%20and%20herbs%20(the%20route%20I%20took%20just%20to%20not%20have%20another%20thing%20to%20clean)%20and%20some%20arugula%20it%E2%80%99s%20a%20really%20satisfying%20dinner%20for%20one.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20thing%20to%20note,%20though,%20is%20that%20the%20recipe%20yields%20a%20lot%20of%20gnocchi%E2%80%94the%20original%20mentions%20that%20you%20get%2090,%20and%20even%20when%20I%20reduced%20some%20of%20the%20ingredients%20by%2030%25%20or%20so%20I%20was%20able%20to%20easily%20freeze%20half.%20These%20are%20rich%20little%20dumplings%20too%E2%80%94I%20was%20only%20able%20to%20finish%20about%20half%20of%20the%20gnocchi%20pictured%20here,%20but%20that%20might%20have%20also%20been%20because%20I%20threw%20in%20some%20leftover%20mozzarella%20di%20bufula%20that%20I%20had%20in%20the%20fridge%20so%20as%20to%20not%20waste%20it%20so%20there%20was%20quite%20a%20bit%20of%20food%20in%20my%20bowl.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20any%20case,%20I%E2%80%99m%20looking%20forward%20to%20catching%20new%20episodes%20of%20this%20show%20and%20getting%20even%20more%20inspiration%20over%20the%20next%20few%20weeks.%20Check%20your%20local%20listings%20for%20Cooking%20Channel%20for%20when%20to%20catch%20it%E2%80%94new%20episodes%20tend%20to%20air%20on%20Saturdays%20and%20reruns%20air%20throughout%20the%20week,%20but%20the%20time%20never%20seems%20to%20be%20that%20consistent.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMascarpone%20Gnocchi%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20Lorraine%E2%80%99s%20Fast,%20Fresh%20&%20Easy%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20the%20dough:%20combine%20everything%20except%20for%20the%20butter%20and%20olive%20oil%20into%20a%20bowl%20(seasoning%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper%20to%20taste)%20and%20mix%20until%20a%20soft%20dough%20is%20formed.%20Remove%20the%20dough%20from%20the%20bowl%20and%20on%20a%20well-floured%20board%20knead%20it%20until%20you%20can%20get%20it%20into%20a%20smooth%20ball.%20Depending%20on%20the%20weather%20you%20may%20need%20to%20add%20a%20little%20water%20to%20help%20bring%20the%20dough%20together,%20but%20do%20so%20sparingly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDivide%20the%20mixture%20into%202-3%20pieces%20and%20start%20rolling%20out%20the%20dough%20into%20logs%20about%2023%20inches%20long.%20I%20actually%20ended%20up%20dividing%20the%20dough%20into%20quarters%20because%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20that%20much%20rolling%20space%20to%20use,%20but%20your%20mileage%20will%20definitely%20vary.%20Once%20the%20dough%20is%20rolled%20out,%20use%20a%20bench%20cutter%20to%20cut%20out%20little%20one-inch%20dumplings%20and%20place%20on%20a%20floured%20plate.%20This%20is%20also%20when%20you%20can%20freeze%20them%20on%20a%20plate%20and%20then%20store%20them%20in%20a%20resealable%20bag.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%20a%20large%20skillet%20on%20to%20medium%20to%20high%20heat%20with%20the%20butter%20and%20olive%20oil.%20When%20the%20butter%20is%20melted%20and%20starting%20to%20foam,%20add%20about%20half%20the%20gnocchi%20and%20bring%20the%20heat%20down%20to%20low.%20Sear%20on%20each%20side%20for%20about%20a%20minute,%20and%20then%20cook%20for%20another%204-5%20minutes,%20turning%20every%20once%20in%20a%20while%20to%20brown%20them%20evenly.%20Just%20before%20taking%20them%20out,%20add%20garlic%20and%20herbs%20to%20the%20pan%20and%20toss%20well%20to%20coat,%20and%20then%20serve%20in%20a%20bowl%20with%20arugula%20and%20serve%20immediately.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
