%20in%20a%20storied%20neighborhood.%20On%20a%20gratifyingly%20breezy,%20sunny%20Spring%20afternoon,%20we%20sat%20on%20rockers%20in%20her%20charming%20front%20porch%20and%20enjoyed%20thick%20slices%20of%20cherry%20tart%20with%20some%20strong%20coffee.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20my%20quilting%20teacher,%20whose%20home%20is%20a%20veritable%20quilting%20museum%20with%20beautiful%20quilts%20adorning%20practically%20every%20wall,%20invited%20us%20for%20a%20proper%20Southern%20luncheon,%20with%20tomato%20aspic,%20dainty%20sandwiches%20of%20every%20kind,%20including%20cucumber,%20olive-nut%20and%20my%20personal%20favorite,%20pimento%20cheese.%20All%20served%20on%20antique%20trays%20lined%20with%20lacy%20paper%20doilies,%20no%20less.%20What%20a%20treat%20it%20was.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20reciprocated%20this%20unbelievable%20hospitality%20by%20inviting%20everyone%20for%20a%20luncheon%20this%20weekend.%20It%20turned%20out%20to%20be%20a%20rainy%20weekend%20of%20record-breaking%20proportions-%20non-stop%20rain%20that%20lasted%20over%2024%20hours,%20book-ended%20by%20days%20of%20more%20showers.%20I%20kept%20looking%20out%20of%20the%20window%20expecting%20Naoh's%20Ark%20to%20come%20rowing%20by%20any%20minute.%20But%20as%20it%20turned%20out,%20a%20rainy%20afternoon%20was%20the%20ideal%20time%20to%20huddle%20indoors%20and%20eat%20and%20socialize.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20a%20quick%20look%20at%20the%20menu.%20On%20a%20side%20note:%20We%20have%20this%20very%20narrow%20wall%20in%20our%20kitchen-%20it%20sits%20between%20the%20two%20doorways%20to%20the%20dining%20room%20and%20the%20living%20room-%20and%20after%20looking%20at%20approximately%2010,562%20chalkboard%20paint%20ideas%20on%20Pinterest,%20we%20took%20the%20plunge%20and%20painted%20it%20with%20black%20chalkboard%20paint.%20I%20love%20the%20result-%20the%20wall%20is%20a%20nice%20backdrop%20for%20the%20quilted%20clock%20my%20sister%20made,%20and%20we%20have%20space%20to%20scrawl%20menus%20and%20messages%20and%20make%20random%20drawings.%20There's%20something%20very%20satisfying%20about%20scribbling%20on%20a%20wall.%20And%20suddenly%20that%20narrow%20strip%20of%20wall%20is%20a%20focal%20point%20in%20the%20kitchen.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStuffed%20mushrooms%20are%20my%20mother's%20favorite%20appetizer%20to%20make.%20She%20makes%20the%20stuffing%20with%20minced%20mushroom%20stems,%20green%20onions%20and%20grated%20cheese,%20with%20minced%20chilies%20and%20fresh%20pepper%20for%20heat.%20The%20mixture%20is%20held%20together%20with%20some%20cornstarch%20and%20the%20mushrooms%20are%20pan-fried%20until%20they%20are%20golden%20and%20crispy%20and%20altogether%20irresistible.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStuffed%20mushrooms%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20samosa%20puffs,%20meanwhile,%20are%20probably%20my%20favorite%20appetizer%20to%20make.%20The%20approximate%20recipe%20is%20here,%20although%20this%20time%20I%20cut%20the%20puff%20pastry%20sheets%20into%20small%20squares%20and%20made%20rectangular%20puffs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20chickpea%20curry%20is%20the%20usual%20chana%20masala%20and%20the%20egg%20dish%20was%20this%20coconut%20sauce%20with%20lots%20of%20sauteed%20vegetables%20and%20halved%20boiled%20eggs%20added%20to%20it.%20The%20salad%20was%20a%20simple%20koshimbir%20of%20cucumber%20and%20cabbage%20with%20a%20lemon%20dressing,%20and%20the%20rice%20was%20a%20basic%20jeera%20rice%20with%20Basmati,%20ghee%20and%20cumin%20seeds,%20made%20in%20the%20rice%20cooker.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20spinach%20lasagna%20recipe%20came%20from%20an%20episode%20of%20a%20cooking%20show,%20Cook's%20Country,%20that%20I%20caught%20on%20PBS%20several%20months%20ago%20(Italian%20Favorites%20Revisited,%20Season%205,%20Episode%20504).%20The%20recipe%20can%20be%20found%20on%20Cook's%20Country%20but%20needs%20a%20subscription;%20you'll%20also%20find%20it%20posted%20on%20several%20websites%20if%20you%20do%20a%20bit%20of%20searching.%20Well,%20I've%20made%20this%20spinach%20lasagna%20three%20times%20in%20recent%20weeks.%20It%20is%20a%20very%20solid,%20flavorful%20and%20hearty%20lasagna.%20It%20is%20the%20sort%20of%20dish%20that%20can%20feed%20a%20large,%20hungry%20crowd.%20True%20to%20the%20unique%20selling%20point%20of%20this%20particular%20show,%20all%20the%20ingredients%20can%20be%20found%20in%20a%20standard%20US%20supermarket.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20this%20lasagna,%20you%20make%20a%20simple%20tomato%20sauce,%20and%20a%20spinach-ricotta-egg%20mixture.%20Then%20you%20layer%20these%20with%20no-boil%20lasagna%20noodles%20and%20mozzarella.%20Bake%20until%20bubbly.%20If%20you've%20always%20wanted%20to%20make%20a%20lasagna,%20this%20is%20a%20good%20recipe%20to%20start%20with,%20because%20the%20directions%20are%20very%20precise%20(but%20it%20is%20not%20a%20quick%20recipe;%20be%20prepared%20to%20spend%20some%20time%20and%20energy%20following%20the%20recipe%20at%20least%20the%20first%20couple%20of%20times%20you%20make%20it).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpinach%20lasagna%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20always%20one%20for%20trying%20culinary%20experiments%20on%20unsuspecting%20guests,%20and%20this%20tim
