%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20to%20say%20that%20it%20has%20been%20sticky%20and%20hot%20here.%20Not%20sunny%20mind%20you.%20Just%20sticky%20and%20hot.%20Makes%20it%20so%20I%20don't%20feel%20like%20doing%20the%20outdoor%20grilling%20thing%20and%20swimming%20and%20stuff%20like%20that.%20I%20just%20feel%20mean%20and%20grumpy%20and%20sticky%20from%20the%20humidity.%20So,%20I%20must%20admit%20that%20cooking%20has%20not%20been%20my%20go%20to%20fun%20time%20activity.%20So,%20the%20other%20night%20all%20I%20could%20think%20of%20was%20this%20recipe%20that%20I%20saw%20for%20Fattoush.%20Fattoush%20is%20a%20Lebanese%20bread%20salad%20made%20with%20fresh%20vegetables,%20sumac%20and%20pita%20chips.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20isn't%20a%20long%20post%20of%20my%20weekend%20antics%20and%20my%20Big%20Fat%20Greek%20Dinner.%20That%20is%20coming%20soon.%20I%20just%20wanted%20you%20to%20have%20this%20recipe%20in%20case%20you%20were%20sticky%20and%20grumpy%20and%20just%20needed%20something%20to%20cool%20you%20down.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFattoush%20(Lebanese%20%22Crumbled%20Bread%22%20Salad%20with%20Sumac%20and%20Pita%20Chips)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20http://kalynskitchen.blogspot.com/%20but%20she%20got%20it%20from%20someone%20named%20%22Lori%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eoptional%20ingredients:%20chopped%20green%20pepper%20or%20radishes%20(I%20didn't%20use%20either%20of%20these%20but%20Lori's%20recipe%20had%20green%20peppers%20and%20I%20saw%20several%20recipes%20that%20added%20chopped%20radishes.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20or%20toaster%20oven%20to%20400F/200C.%20While%20oven%20heats,%20mash%20together%20the%20chopped%20garlic%20and%20salt%20using%20a%20mortar%20and%20pestle,%20or%20the%20side%20of%20a%20knife%20or%20spoon.%20Put%20garlic-salt%20paste%20in%20a%20small%20bowl,%20then%20add%20lemon%20juice%20and%201%20tsp.%20Sumac.%20Whisk%20in%20olive%20oil%20and%20set%20dressing%20aside.%20(You%20can%20also%20make%20the%20dressing%20in%20a%20glass%20jar%20and%20shake%20to%20combine.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECut%20whole%20wheat%20pita%20into%20strips%20about%203/4%20inch%20wide%20and%20arrange%20on%20baking%20sheet.%20(I%20brushed%20pita%20strips%20with%20some%20olive%20oil%20and%20sprinkled%20with%20salt)%20Bake%20until%20pita%20strips%20are%20crisp%20but%20only%20barely%20starting%20to%20brown,%20less%20than%2010%20minutes.%20Watch%20carefully%20because%20they%20can%20go%20from%20crisp%20to%20overly%20brown%20rather%20quickly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20outer%20leaves%20from%20Romaine,%20trim%20stem%20end,%20then%20wash%20and%20spin%20dry%20or%20dry%20with%20paper%20towels.%20Cut%20Romaine%20into%20fourths%20lengthwise,%20then%20turn%20and%20chop%20crosswise%20into%20small%20pieces.%20(If%20you%20have%20a%20salad%20spinner,%20you%20can%20chop%20the%20Romaine%20first,%20then%20wash.)%20Put%20chopped%20Romaine%20into%20salad%20bowl%20large%20enough%20toss%20all%20ingredients.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChop%20tomatoes,%20green%20onions,%20cucumbers,%20mint,%20and%20parsley%20and%20add%20to%20lettuce.%20Add%20about%20half%20of%20the%20dressing%20and%20toss,%20then%20add%20crumbled%20pita%20chops%20and%20toss%20again%20with%20more%20dressing.%20(You%20may%20not%20want%20all%20the%20dressing,%20but%20this%20salad%20should%20be%20quite%20wet.)%20At%20this%20point%20the%20salad%20should%20sit%20for%20a%20few%20minutes%20(or%20longer)%20to%20let%20flavors%20blend%20and%20so%20the%20pita%20chips%20absorb%20some%20of%20the%20dressing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20serve,%20arrange%20salad%20on%20individual%20plates%20and%20sprinkle%20with%20a%20bit%20more%20Sumac.%20You%20can%20also%20serve%20it%20in%20a%20large%20bowl%20with%20the%20Sumac%20sprinkled%20over.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
