  • 3 tbsp tamarind paste (or a small lemon sized tamarind, soaked in hot water)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 cloves
  • a small cinnamon stick
  • 1 onion, thinly chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste (or 3 crushed garlic cloves; a small piece of chopped ginger)
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • For Tadka/Tempering -
  • 1 tsp oil1 red chilli
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal (split black gram)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
