%20so%20the%20recipe%20of%20the%20week,%20in%20my%20mind%20had%20to%20be%20inspired%20by%20our%20travels.%20But%20I'll%20give%20it%20to%20you%20straight,%20Mount%20Dandenong%20eateries%20in%20my%20view..%20leave%20a%20lot%20to%20be%20desired.%20It's%20what%20we%20thought%203%20years%20ago,%20it's%20what%20we%20thought%20last%20week..%20and%20it's%20what%20a%20Mount%20Dandenong%20gift%20shop%20owner%20confirmed%20and%20lamented%20about%20when%20I%20bought%20a%20stack%20of%20spices%20and%20a%20fruit/veg%20toothpick%20holder%20(I%20chose%20the%20'cut%20tomato').%20The%20gift%20shop%20owner%20and%20her%20chef%20husband%20now%20travel%20off%20the%20mountain%20when%20dining%20out%20for%20dinner%20(and%20she%20claims%20to%20be%20the%20'bigger%20foodie'%20of%20the%20two%20of%20them).%20We%20did%20however%20disagree%20about%20one%20local%20restaurant%20&%20it%20turns%20out%20they%20(the%20local%20couple)%20haven't%20been%20there%20in%20years.%20Hubby%20and%20I%20insisted%20they%20should%20try%20it%20again%20because%20our%20tourist-socks%20were,%20quite%20frankly%20blown%20off!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20restaurant%20is%20Mount%20Dandenong's%20only%20Indian%20'joint'%20-%20being%20%22Indian%20by%20Nature%22.%20Apologies,%20mobile%20phone%20photo's%20only:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20dining%20area%20is%20mostly%20carpeted%20and%20lino%20flooring%20tiles%20appear%20near%20the%20register/counter%20towards%20the%20back%20of%20the%20restaurant,%20near%20the%20kitchen%20actually.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%22Clay%20oven%20delicacies%22%20share%20plate%20entree:%20Mixed%20Grill%20%22Speciality%20of%20the%20House%22(Marinated%20in%20yoghurt,%20herbs%20&%20spices)-%20Lamb%20chops,%20Chicken%20Tikka,%20Tandoori%20Chicken%20&%20Sheekh%20Kebab%20$20.%20All%20baked%20in%20a%20clay%20Tandoor%20oven.%20The%20garnish%20is%20a%20bit%2070's,%20however%20the%20flavours%20were%20up-to-the-minute-delicious!%20And%20to%20be%20honest,%20the%20orange%20and%20lemon%20slices%20worked%20beautifully%20with%20these%20meats.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShared%20mains:%20Lamb%20Saag%20$13%20(Diced%20lamb%20simmered%20in%20fresh%20spinach%20puree%20&%20spices).%20Pumpkin%20Masala%20$11%20(Cubes%20of%20butternut%20pumpkin%20cooked%20with%20onions,%20tomatoes%20and%20finished%20with%20chef's%20own%20style).%20Lemon%20Rice%20$5%20(Basmati%20rice%20cooked%20with%20mustard%20seeds,%20curry%20leaves,%20coconut%20and%20lemon%20essence).%20Raita%20$3%20(Churned%20homemade%20yoghurt%20with%20grated%20cucumber%20and%20garnished%20with%20ground%20cumin).%20Mint%20Achar/Chutney%20$2.%20Not%20pictured:%20Mint%20Paratha%20$3.50%20(Flaky%20wholemeal%20bread%20baked%20with%20fresh%20mint)%20&%20Roti%20$2%20(Flat%20wholemeal%20bread%20baked%20in%20Tandoor).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20seating%20area%20at%20Indian%20By%20Nature%20is%20kind-of%20limited%20(20%20to%2030?),%20but%20it's%20clean%20and%20classy%20in%20an%20old%20fashioned%20way.%20The%20atmosphere%20is%20calm%20and%20relaxing%20&%20the%20service%20is%20fast%20and%20friendly.%20We%20couldn't%20fault%20our%20waiter..%20nor%20the%20food.%20Value%20for%20money%20food!%20And%20without%20paper%20napkins%20too..%20I%20had%20a%20linen%20napkin%20placed%20in%20my%20lap.%20There%20were%20no%20oil%20slicks%20in%20our%20individual%20dishes%20-to%20our%20relief.%20Everything%20seemed%20'light'%20and%20oh-so-tasty.%20This%20would%20be%20the%20best%20Indian%20I've%20ever%20eaten%20and%20hubby%20would%20tie%20this%20for%20first%20place%20along%20with%20one%20of%20our%20local%20(more%20expensive)%20Indian%20restaurants.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIndian%20By%20Nature,%20Shop%203/1526%20Mount%20Dandenong%20Tourist%20Rd,%20Olinda,%20Vic,%203788%20Ph:%2003)%2097510111.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDinner%20now%207%20nights,%20Mon-Sun%205pm%20'til%20late.%20And%20%22YAY!%22%20for%20them%20because%20a%20number%20of%20places%20in%20the%20Dandenongs%20are%20only%20open%20from%20Wed-Sun%20or%20Fri-Sun.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20about%20a%20bake-in-the-oven%20Indian%20dish?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBaked%20Chicken%20Curry%20Pilaf%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Remove%20casserole%20dish%20from%20oven%20&%20with%20some%20tongs,%20remove%20chicken%20onto%20a%20plate,%20then%20pour%20cooked%20peas%20into%20rice%20mixture%20and%20stir.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Sprinkle%20mint%20over%20rice.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-Serve%20rice%20on%20a%20plate%20alongside%20chicken.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E-I%20made%20mashed%20sweet%20butternut%20pumpkin%20as%20an%20additional%20sidedish%20and%20it%20married%20very%20well%20with%20the%20curry%20flavours%20in%20the%20chicken.%20Sweet%20cherry%20tomatoes%20on%20our%20plates%20were%20also%20a%20perfect%20accompaniment,%20along%20with%20yoghurt%20&%20a%20citrusy%20wedge%20(just%20so%20happened%20to%20be%20lime,%20but%20lemon%20would%20have%20been%20just%20as%20good,%20if%20not%20better).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20guess%20what?%20I%20forgot%20to%20mix%20the%20peas%20in%20with%20the%20rice!%20I%20finished%20taking%20my%20photographs%20and%20started%20plating%20up%20my%20family's%20dinner.%20When%20I%20saw%20the%20pea's%20on%20the%20bench%20I%20decided%20to%20scatter%20them%20over%20everyone's%20plates..%20like%20a%20garnish.%20It%20worked%20out%20fine%20-%20but%20the%20rice%20might%20have%20been%20a%20bit%20prettier%20with%20pea's%20(for%20the%20blog)!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
