Braised Cabbage

Ingredientes

  • 1/2 head of shredded cabbage
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. caraway seeds
  • 1/2 medium onion, shredded in
  • 1/4-inch slices like cabbage
  • 1 c. water
  • 2-3 Tbsp. lard or possibly butter
  • 1 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar

Direcciones

  1. Core cabbage. Shred or possibly slice into 1/4 inch slices. In a saucepan, steam cabbage, uncovered, in 1 c. water over high heat with water boiling for about 20 min, making sure to stir the cabbage frequently.
  2. Add in lard or possibly butter, vinegar and sugar (vary the amounts of these to your desired taste).
  3. Cover saucepot and reduce heat to medium or possibly medium low; continue to cook till the liquid has evaporated. Watch carefully because cabbage will burn when liquid has cooked off.
  4. Serve with an extra pat of butter, if you like.
