- Soak bread in lowfat milk. With hands, crush till well mixed. In a large bowl, mix large eggs, sugar, nutmeg, vanilla and raisins; add in bourbon and mix well. Add in milk-bread mix and blend well.Grease 9x12x2 inch baking dish with butter. Pour in bread mix and bake at 350 degrees till hard, approximately 50-55 min. The top should be crusty. (Most cooks like to place the pan in another pan partially filled with water.)
- To serve, cut into 3x3 inch pcs. Serve warm with sauce.
- On low heat, heat butter in saucepan. Stir in sugar and water, dissolve sugar. Remove from fire and let cook for 10 min. Beat in egg; add in bourbon. Yields: 2 1/2 cups.
