Cheese Strata with Mushrooms

This is nice for a brunch. It is best made ahead and refrigerated until time to bake.

I use Italian or French bread.

Ingredientes

  • 4 C bread cubes, crusts trimmed
  • 1 lb. Sharp Cheddar cheese, cubed
  • 1/2 C butter, melted
  • 1lb. whole fresh mushrooms, cleaned and halved
  • 6 large eggs
  • 4 C milk
  • 2 t prepared mustard
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/4 t ground pepper

Direcciones

  1. Place half the bread cubes in 3 quart casserole.
  2. Layer half the cheese and 1/2 the butter.
  3. Repeat layers and arrange mushrooms on top.
  4. Beat together eggs, mustard, milk and salt and pour over layered mixture.
  5. If possible,refrigerate overnight or at least two hours until baking time.
  6. Bake at 300 degrees about 2 hours or until set.
