%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChocolate%20Fudge%20Brownies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20your%20oven%20to%20350'%20F.%20Grease%20and%20flour%20a%20n%208%22%20x%208%22%20baking%20dish.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20the%20flour,%20baking%20powder%20and%20salt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20the%20unsweetened%20chocolate%20and%20butter%20together,%20in%20a%20medium%20bowl.%20You%20can%20either%20do%20it%20in%20the%20microwave%20if%20that's%20your%20thing...or%20you%20can%20melt%20it%20in%20the%20bowl,%20over%20a%20pot%20with%20boiling%20water%20(double%20boiler%20style).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20melted,%20whisk%20in%20the%20sugars%20(brown%20and%20granulated)%20and%20then%20whisk%20in%20the%20eggs,%20egg%20yolk,%20and%20vanilla.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20flour%20and%20fold%20into%20the%20chocolate%20mixture%20until%20well%20incorporated%20then%20fold%20in%20the%20chocolate%20chips.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20your%20batter%20into%20your%20prepared%20baking%20dish%20and%20bake%20for%2025-30%20minutes%20or%20until%20you%20have%20a%20fairly%20clean%20toothpick%20when%20inserted%20into%20the%20middle.%20I%20say%20%22fairly%22%20clean....because...if%20you%20skewer%20a%20melty%20chocolate%20chip,%20there's%20no%20way%20the%20toothpick%20is%20coming%20out%20clean.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAllow%20to%20cool%20completely%20before%20adding%20the%20following%20frosting...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Best%20Chocolate%20Buttercream%20Frosting%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3/4%20cup%20unsalted%20butter,%20room%20temperature%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/2%20cup%20cocoa%20powder%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/2%20tsp%20salt%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%201/2%20-%203%20cups%20powdered%20sugar,%20sifted%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20TB%20milk%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20tsp%20vanilla%20extract%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScant%201/2%20cup%20heavy%20cream%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/3%20cup%20Ovaltine%20powder%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20instructions%20say%20to%20use%20a%20stand%20mixer%20with%20a%20paddle%20attachment.%20I%20have%20a%20mixer%20with%20a%20stand.%20It's%2020%20yrs%20old.%20Basically%20its%20a%20hand%20mixer%20that%20slides%20onto%20the%20stand%20for%20convenience.%20I%20don't%20have%20paddles%20or%20any%20other%20special%20attachments.%20If%20you're%20in%20the%20same%20boat%20as%20me,%20don't%20worry.%20It%20works%20out%20just%20fine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECream%20together%20the%20butter,%20cocoa%20powder%20and%20salt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENote:%20Ummm....I%20had%20a%20cocoa%20powder%20dust%20cloud%20going%20here.%20Next%20time%20I%20think%20I'll%20cream%20the%20butter%20first%20and%20then%20add%20the%20cocoa%20powder%20and%20salt%20a%20little%20at%20a%20time.%20Just%20for%20the%20sake%20of%20having%20less%20of%20a%20mess%20to%20clean%20up.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EContinue%20to%20mix%20for%20another%203%20minutes....which%20at%20this%20point%20you%20should%20have%20a%20nice%20creamy%20chocolaty%20mix.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScrape%20down%20the%20sides%20and%20add%20the%20powdered%20sugar,%20while%20the%20mixer%20is%20on%20low%20speed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENote:%20After%20my%20cocoa%20powder%20dust%20cloud...I%20added%20the%20powdered%20sugar%201/2%20cup%20at%20a%20time,%20along%20with%20the%20milk%20and%20vanilla.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20the%20sugar%20incorporates,%20increase%20the%20mixer%20speed%20gradually%20to%20medium%20high,%20scraping%20down%20the%20sides%20as%20needed,%20until%20everything's%20nice%20and%20smooth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20together%20the%20heavy%20cream%20and%20Ovaltine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENote:%20Believe%20it%20or%20not...this%20was%20the%20first%20time%20I%20had%20ever%20bought%20Ovaltine.%20I%20may%20have%20had%20some%20as%20a%20child%20but%20I%20honestly%20can't%20remember.%20I%20know%20my%20mom%20never%20bought%20it.%20Apparently%20there%20are%20a%20few%20flavors%20to%20choose%20from.%20I%20used%20the%20rich%20chocolate%20Ovaltine.%20You%20can%20use%20whichever%20you%20prefer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETurn%20the%20mixer%20to%20medium%20and%20add%20the%20cream%20slowly.%20Beat%20until%20you%20have%20a%20delicious%20frosting%20that's%20your%20desired%20consistency.%20Joy%20the%20Baker%20says%20to%20add%20more%20powdered%20sugar%20to%20adjust%20the%20consistency%20to%20your%20liking.%20You%20want%20something%20that%20is%20smooth,%20creamy%20and%20spreadable.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20brownies,%20you're%20only%20going%20to%20use%20only%20half%20of%20the%20frosting.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESave%20the%20rest%20for%20something%20else%20yummy....like%20finger%20dipping%20(or%20cupcakes).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECut%20this%20one%20large%20brownie%20into%20more%20managable%20sized%20pieces%20(cuz%20no%20matter%20how%20much%20you%20want%20to%20keep%20it%20all%20to%20yourself%20and%20eat%20the%20whole%20thing%20as%20is,%20cuz%20if%20it's%20not%20cut%20up,%20you%20can%20say%20you%20only%20ate%20ONE%20brownie....you'll%20want%20to%20see%20the%20faces%20of%20those%20who%20enjoy%20this%20and%20hear%20them%20say...mmmmmm.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20did%20take%20the%20brownies%20to%20work%20so%20I%20could%20share%20the%20joy.%20After%20a%20long%20week,%20and%20as%20Friday%20came%20to%20an%20end....a%20rich,%20chocolately%20brownie%20was%20just%20what%20we%20needed.%20(Only%20cuz%20we're%20not%20allowed%20to%20have%20margaritas%20at%20work).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20I%20got%20to%20bring%20a%20couple%20home%20for%20the%20weekend.%20For%20breakfast.%20Cuz%20what%20could%20be%20better%20than%20a%20brownie%20with%20your%20morning%20coffee%20on%20a%20pretty%20little%20plate%20on%20a%20beautiful%20Saturday%20morning?%20(before%20you%20go%20to%20the%20gym)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20next%20couple%20of%20weeks%20you're%20going%20to%20hear%20a%20lot%20about%20Joy%20the%20Baker%20around%20here.%20She's%20come%20out%20with%20a%20cookbook%20and%20I'm%20thrilled%20to%20have%20been%20asked%20to%20participate%20in%20the%20Joy%20the%20Baker%20Cookbook%20Spotlight%20and%20Cook-Off%20sponsored%20by%20Hyperion%20and%20hosted%20at%20girlichef*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20brownies%20and%20frosting%20are%20one%20of%20the%20many%20sinfully%20delicioius%20recipes%20in%20her%20cookbook.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI've%20just%20realized%20that%20she%20lives%20here%20in%20L.A.%20I%20feel%20like%20we%20should%20be%20neighbors%20or%20something%20but%20with%20traffic%20and%20all....it%20could%20take%20hours%20to%20get%20to%20her%20end%20of%20town%20(which%20ever%20ends%20that%20happens%20to%20be).%20Wouldn't%20it%20be%20cool%20to%20bump%20into%20her%20at%20the%20grocery%20store?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20I%20could%20invite%20her%20over%20to%20help%20me%20bake%20all%20the%20goodies%20in%20my%20shopping%20cart.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
