%20Facebook%20feed%20two%20days%20ago,%20I%20knew%20I'd%20found%20the%20right%20way%20to%20use%20my%20toasted%20hazelnuts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20kind%20of%20daunted%20by%20the%20idea%20of%20making%20chocolate%20hazelnut%20spread%20from%20scratch%20until%20I%20took%20a%20look%20at%20David's%20simple%20recipe%20-%20it's%20really%20not%20so%20tough%20after%20all!%20It's%20a%20pretty%20basic%20mixture%20of%20ground%20hazelnuts%20and%20melted%20chocolate%20with%20a%20few%20other%20ingredients%20blended%20in.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'd%20already%20toasted%20the%20nuts.%20The%20next%20step%20was%20to%20remove%20the%20skins%20-%20a%20little%20tedious%20(though%20those%20of%20you%20who%20are%20more%20evolved%20than%20I%20am%20might%20find%20it%20%22meditative%22)%20but%20not%20hard%20at%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20into%20the%20cuisinart%20they%20went%20where%20I%20ground%20them%20into%20a%20paste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20added%20canola%20oil,%20a%20little%20confectioner's%20sugar,%20some%20cocoa%20powder,%20a%20dash%20of%20salt%20and%20a%20little%20vanilla%20extract%20and%20blended%20again%20until%20smooth.Then%20I%20added%20the%20melted%20chocolate%20and%20blended%20it%20again.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20resulting%20spread%20is%20divine,%20very%20rich,%20with%20a%20stronger%20roasted%20hazelnut%20flavor%20than%20Nutella.%20It%20solidified%20overnight%20but%20you%20can%20always%20warm%20it%20in%20a%20bowl%20of%20warm%20water%20or%20zap%20it%20in%20the%20microwave%20for%20a%20few%20seconds%20if%20you're%20having%20trouble%20spreading%20it.%20Below%20is%20a%20pic%20I%20took%20of%20it%20before%20it%20spent%20a%20few%20seconds%20in%20the%20microwave%20-%20still%20spreadable%20but%20a%20little%20more%20work%20than%20the%20stuff%20I%20heated%20up%20was.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20storing%20mine%20in%20an%20old%20Bon%20Maman%20jam%20jar%20since%20it's%20got%20a%20screw-on%20lid%20and%20I%20also%20love%20the%20look%20of%20'em.%20Use%20it%20just%20like%20you'd%20normally%20use%20Nutella%20and%20enjoy%20the%20fact%20that%20it%20is%20even%20tastier%20and%20does%20not%20have%20any%20of%20the%20additives%20and%20preservatives%20in%20the%20store-bought%20version.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%20one%2018%20oz%20jar%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Preheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350%C2%B0F.%20(I%20recommend%20using%20your%20toaster%20oven%20as%20it's%20a%20waste%20of%20energy%20to%20heat%20your%20entire%20oven%20for%20this%20small%20amount%20of%20nuts.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Spread%20the%20hazelnuts%20in%20a%20single%20layer%20on%20a%20baking%20sheet%20and%20toast%20them%20for%20about%2012%20minutes,%20checking%20once%20or%20twice%20and%20turning%20as%20needed,%20until%20they%E2%80%99ve%20browned%20a%20little%20and%20the%20skins%20are%20blistered.%20Wrap%20them%20in%20a%20kitchen%20towel%20and%20rub%20vigorously%20or%20put%20them%20in%20a%20yogurt%20container%20and%20shake%20hard%20for%20a%20few%20seconds%20to%20remove%20as%20much%20loose%20skin%20as%20possible.%20There%20will%20still%20be%20some%20skin%20clinging%20to%20the%20nuts%20when%20you're%20finished%20-%20it's%20okay.%20%20Let%20cool%20completely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Melt%20the%20chocolate%20in%20a%20saucepan%20over%20gently%20simmering%20water%20or%20in%20the%20microwave.%20Stir%20until%20smooth.%20Set%20aside%20to%20cool.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20In%20a%20food%20processor,%20grind%20the%20hazelnuts%20until%20they%20form%20a%20paste.%20Add%20the%20oil,%20sugar,%20cocoa%20powder,%20vanilla,%20and%20salt%20and%20continue%20processing%20until%20the%20mixture%20is%20as%20smooth%20as%20possible%20(unless%20you%20prefer%20to%20have%20a%20chunkier%20spread).%20Add%20the%20melted%20chocolate%20and%20blend%20well.%20Store%20the%20spread%20in%20a%20glass%20jar%20with%20an%20airtight%20lid%20on%20the%20counter%20for%20up%20to%20two%20weeks.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
