,%20chatting%20with%20friends,%20sipping%20an%20aromatic%20cup%20of%20tea%20before%20the%20fire.%20And%20there's%20the%20quiet%20pleasure%20of%20flipping%20through%20a%20new%20cookbook,%20with%20the%20promise%20of%20so%20many%20new%20recipes%20and%20ideas%20for%20future%20edibles%20waltzing%20through%20my%20head.%20And%20when%20the%20new%20cookbook%20is%20about%20baking,%20there's%20always%20the%20alchemical%20magic%20of%20having%20simple%20ingredients%20puff%20up%20into%20cakes,%20pastries,%20biscuits%20or%20other%20treats.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20it%20was%20with%20pleasure%20that%20I%20have%20been%20reading%20through%20and%20baking%20from%20Stacy%20Adimando's%20new%20cookbook:%20The%20Cookiepedia:%20Mixing,%20Baking%20and%20Reinventing%20the%20Classics%20(Philadelphia:%20Quirk%20Books,%202011,%20$18.95).%20%20I%20have%20my%20favorite%20cookies%20to%20bake%20up%20at%20holiday%20time,%20but%20there's%20always%20the%20excitement%20of%20trying%20out%20something%20new%20for%20my%20cookie%20tray%20and%20I'm%20happy%20to%20report%20that%20the%20Dried%20Fruit%20Cookies%20I%20made%20from%20her%20recipe%20(p.%2087%20-%20subbing%20in%20a%20blend%20of%20sorghum,%20tapioca%20starch,%20white%20rice%20flour%20and%20a%201/2%20tsp.%20of%20xanthan%20gum%20for%20the%20wheat%20flour%20to%20make%20them%20gluten-free)%20made%20a%20wonderful%20batch%20of%20cookies%20that%20disappeared%20in%20no%20time.%20The%20cookies%20were%20chewy%20and%20studded%20with%20nuggets%20of%20dried%20cranberries,%20with%20a%20hint%20of%20cinnamon.%20Perfect!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Cookiepedia%20is%20a%20great%20example%20of%20graphic%20design.%20The%20durable%20covers%20and%20wire%20spiral%20binding%20lay%20out%20flat%20so%20that%20a%20baker%20can%20use%20this%20workhouse%20of%20a%20cookbook%20over%20and%20over%20without%20banging%20it%20up.%20There%20are%20many%20color%20photos%20of%20what%20the%20final%20product%20should%20look%20like%20and%20Adimando%20adds%20in%20tips%20about%20handling%20dough,%20baking%20times%20and%20ways%20to%20alter%20the%20recipe%20to%20make%20even%20novice%20cooks%20feel%20comfortable%20in%20the%20kitchen.%20There%20is%20even%20space%20for%20owner%20notes%20in%20each%20recipe%20and%20the%20author%20actively%20encourages%20readers%20to%20experiment%20with%20variations%20on%20each%20cookie%20recipe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20enjoyed%20reading%20through%20the%20introductory%20chapter%20on%20the%20ABCs%20of%20Cookie%20Baking%20and%20picked%20up%20some%20new%20information%20to%20incorporate%20in%20my%20baking%20routines.%20Unlike%20many%20baking%20projects,%20cookies%20are%20fun%20and%20uncomplicated%20and%20the%20author%20certainly%20relays%20this%20playfulness%20in%20her%20directions%20for%20each%20recipe.%20It's%20easy%20to%20relax%20and%20just%20tinker%20around%20with%20her%20recipes,%20and%20this%20spirited%20combination%20of%20prose,%20photos%20and%20other%20illustrations%20really%20sets%20this%20cookie%20cookbook%20apart%20from%20the%20many%20other%20baking%20cookbooks%20I've%20seen.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20only%20quibble%20with%20this%20cookbook%20is%20its%20title.%20With%20just%20over%2050%20recipes%20and%20160%20pages,%20I%20would%20hardly%20refer%20to%20this%20cookbook%20as%20being%20encyclopedic.%20Sure,%20there%20are%20many%20variations%20suggested%20for%20each%20recipe,%20but%20it%20does%20not%20encompass%20the%20universe%20of%20cookie%20recipes.%20Still,%20aside%20from%20this%20overly%20ambitious%20title,%20I%20have%20really%20enjoyed%20poring%20over%20this%20stylish,%20fun%20new%20cookbook%20and%20it%20has%20earned%20a%20(floury)%20place%20in%20my%20cookbook%20library.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENote:%20I%20received%20a%20review%20copy%20of%20this%20cookbook%20from%20the%20publisher,%20but%20I%20was%20under%20no%20obligation%20to%20write%20a%20review,%20favorable%20or%20no.%20My%20comments%20are,%20as%20always,%20completely%20my%20own.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
