A while back, I shared a post about my kitchen,
and details on my appliances, too. One of the things I get the most questions on from that post (and in real life) is that little black oven over there.
I told you guys that I had a total I’m-officially-a-grown-up moment when this truck rolled up to our house a little over a year ago and I realized the excitement rivaled that of Christmas day.

%20is%20that%20little%20black%20oven%20over%20there.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20told%20you%20guys%20that%20I%20had%20a%20total%20I%E2%80%99m-officially-a-grown-up%20moment%20when%20this%20truck%20rolled%20up%20to%20our%20house%20a%20little%20over%20a%20year%20ago%20and%20I%20realized%20the%20excitement%20rivaled%20that%20of%20Christmas%20day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20I%20love%20this%20new%20stainless%20model%20they%20have%20out%20now:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20little%20thing%20is%20kind%20of%20amazing.%20%20It%20can%20defrost,%20steam,%20proof,%20bake,%20slow%20cook,%20reheat,%20you%20name%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(above%20photos%20via%20Thermador)%20The%20way%20it%20works%20is%20that%20there%E2%80%99s%20a%20little%20pitcher%20that%20you%20fill%20with%20regular%20water,%20and%20pop%20it%20in%20the%20slot.%20%20The%20water%20is%20then%20released%20into%20the%20oven%20during%20the%20cooking%20process,%20creating%20steam%20and%20enveloping%20the%20food%20inside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPans%20and%20racks%20slide%20right%20in.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20oven%20can%20function%20not%20only%20as%20a%20steam%20oven,%20but%20as%20a%20normal%20convection%20oven%20and%20also%20a%20steam/convection%20combo.%20%20One%20of%20the%20cool%20things%20about%20having%20the%20steam%20is%20that%20it%20prevents%20the%20transfer%20of%20flavors%20so%20you%20can%20cook%20things%20like%20apple%20pie%20and%20garlic%20chicken%20at%20the%20same%20time%20and%20the%20flavors%20don%E2%80%99t%20mix.%20%20It%20also%20has%20tons%20of%20preset%20programs%20that%20automatically%20set%20the%20oven%20temperature%20and%20humidity%20for%20things%20you%20cook%20often.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20example-%20one%20of%20the%20things%20I%20use%20it%20for%20all%20the%20time%20is%20hard-boiling%20eggs%20(I%20know,%20of%20all%20things).%20%20My%20kids%20have%20a%20strange%20obsession%20with%20hard-boiled%20eggs%20these%20days%20(or%20as%20they%20call%20them%20%E2%80%98hot%20boiled%20eggs,%E2%80%99%20also%20applicable),%20so%20I%20can%20pop%20a%20whole%20pan%20of%20them%20in%20there%20and%20just%20press%20one%20button%20and%20it%20automatically%20cooks%20them%20perfectly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20also%20especially%20love%20it%20for%20things%20like%20brown%20rice%20and%20quinoa.%20%20The%20steam%20cooks%20the%20softest,%20most%20fluffy%20grains%20I%E2%80%99ve%20ever%20had%20in%20my%20life-%20no%20exaggeration.%20%20Meats%20turn%20out%20crazy%20moist,%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20amazing%20for%20re-heating%20leftovers.%20%20The%20steam%20rehydrates%20so%20nothing%20is%20dried%20out.%20%20Things%20like%20pizza%20taste%20like%20they%E2%80%99re%20fresh%20out%20of%20the%20oven%20again%20for%20the%20first%20time.%20%20Steam%20cooking%20is%20also%20obviously%20a%20great%20way%20to%20cook%20healthier%20food,%20and%20steaming%20retains%20more%20vitamins%20and%20minerals.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPeople%20ask%20me%20if%20I%E2%80%99m%20happy%20I%20got%20the%20steam%20oven%20and%20if%20I%20use%20it%20and%20the%20answers%20are%20yes,%20and%20yes!%20It%E2%80%99s%20been%20a%20really%20fun,%20new%20way%20of%20cooking%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20still%20learning%20more%20and%20more%20things%20I%20can%20do%20with%20the%20oven.%20%20I%E2%80%99m%20excited%20to%20really%20get%20into%20bread%20making,%20as%20the%20steam%20oven%20can%20re-create%20that%20environment%20that%20commercial%20bakeries%20have%20that%20produce%20that%20chewy,%20crackly%20top.%20%20I%E2%80%99ve%20really%20loved%20it%20so%20far%20for%20meats%20and%20roasts,%20and%20of%20course%20steaming%20vegetables.%20I%20use%20it%20a%20lot%20for%20proofing%20yeast%20breads%20like%20cinnamon%20rolls.%20%20%20My%20only%20single%20regret,%20and%20this%20is%20simply%20a%20kitchen-design%20regret,%20not%20an%20appliance%20regret,%20is%20not%20placing%20it%20closer%20to%20my%20hood%20vent.%20%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20realize%20it%20would%20release%20a%20little%20steam%20out%20the%20front%20of%20the%20oven,%20and%20I%20wish%20there%20was%20a%20vent%20above%20it%20to%20suck%20that%20up.%20%20But%20it%E2%80%99s%20really%20a%20minor%20thing;%20it%20makes%20my%20house%20smell%20extra%20yummy%20when%20I%20cook%20with%20it.%20%20All%20in%20all,%20I%E2%80%99ve%20loved%20having%20it%20and%20I%E2%80%99m%20glad%20I%20decided%20to%20get%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%E2%80%99s%20some%20answers%20to%20questions%20I%20get%20the%20most%20often:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20oven%20model%20I%20have:%20this%20one.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhere%20I%20bought%20it:%20Orson%20Gygi%20in%20Salt%20Lake%20City.%20%20Ask%20for%20Dave%20in%20appliances%20and%20tell%20him%20I%20sent%20you.%20%20He%E2%80%99ll%20take%20good%20care%20of%20you!%20%20The%20number%20is%20(801)%20268%203316%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDid%20I%20use%20the%20trim%20kit?%20%20Nope.%20%20I%20had%20my%20cabinet%20installer%20custom%20fit%20the%20space.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDo%20you%20need%20special%20plumbing%20for%20a%20steam%20oven?%20%20No.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIs%20there%20an%20option%20to%20get%20a%20steam%20oven%20in%20a%20standing%20range?%20%20Yep.%20%20And%20it%E2%80%99s%20a%20beauty.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECan%20
