%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyway,%20all%20the%20vendors%20to%20which%20I%20refer%20are%20at%20our%20market,%20in%20case%20you%20are%20wondering%20who%20I%20am%20talking%20about!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20corn%20from%20Kelly%E2%80%99s%20Farm,%20garlic%20and%20onion%20from%20Farmer%20Dave,%20tomatoes%20from%20Charlton%20Orchards%20and%20Farmer%20Dave,%20green%20onion%20and%20squash%20blossoms%20from%20Flats%20Mentor%20Farm,%20haddock%20from%20Globe%20Fish,%20basil%20from%20my%20garden,%20my%20own%20homemade%20chicken%20broth,%20and%20even%20the%20lime%20juice%20was%20from%20the%20market%20in%20that%20I%20used%20the%20lime%20leftover%20from%20Holly%E2%80%99s%20(sweetthingfood.com)%20cooking%20demo%20the%20day%20before!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EClose%20up%20shot%20of%20the%20green%20onion%20and%20garlic.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20got%20me%20going%20on%20chowder%20is%20that,%20while%20we%20enjoyed%20the%20flavor%20immensely%20of%20our%20experience%20doing%20haddock%20on%20the%20grill%20wrapped%20in%20foil,%20we%20were%20not%20thrilled%20with%20the%20texture%20since,%20we%20decided%20after%20the%20meal,%20we%20do%20prefer%20at%20least%20a%20bit%20of%20crunch%20with%20our%20fish.%20J%20%20No%20reflection%20on%20the%20quality%20of%20the%20fish%20itself,%20by%20the%20way!%20You%20can%E2%80%99t%20beat%20Globe%20Fish%20for%20freshness,%20that%E2%80%99s%20for%20sure.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnyway%20%E2%80%93%20what%20to%20do%20with%20the%20leftover%20fish?%20%20Aha,%20chowder%20came%20to%20mind,%20although%20I%20knew%20it%20could%20not%20be%20a%20true%20fish%20chowder%20since%20the%20fish%20was%20already%20cooked.%20%20I%20had%20saved%20the%20liquid%20that%20was%20in%20the%20foil,%20but%20knew%20it%20could%20not%20carry%20the%20fish%20flavor%20enough%20to%20be%20the%20highlight.%20That%20is%20why%20I%20say%20%E2%80%9Cwith%20haddock%E2%80%9D%20in%20the%20recipe%20title.%20%20If%20I%20cooked%20the%20fish%20from%20raw%20in%20the%20chowder%20rather%20than%20adding%20it%20at%20the%20end,%20it%20would%20have%20been%20Fish%20Chowder%20with%20Corn,%20Tomato,%20and%20Basil.%20But,%20it%20wasn%E2%80%99t.%20%3Cgrin%3E%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20I%20was%20looking%20for%20a%20way%20to%20use%20a%20number%20of%20ingredients,%20I%20did%20my%20usual%20trick%20of%20typing%20in%20the%20list%20of%20ingredients%20I%20had%20available%20into%20Google%20and,%20voila!%20%20The%20perfect%20solution!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20but%20the%20basil,%20fish,%20and%20squash%20blossoms!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20used%20a%20recipe%20from%20the%20New%20York%20Time%20site%20for%20Corn,%20Tomato%20and%20Basil%20Chowder%20as%20my%20basis.%20I%20did%20make%20some%20changes,%20albeit%20most%20of%20them%20minor,%20and%20I%20am%20100%25%20certain%20that%20the%20recipe%20as%20written%20is%20scrumptious.%20But,%20here%20is%20what%20I%20did:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECorn,%20Tomato,%20and%20Basil%20Chowder%20with%20Haddock%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4%20medium%20ears%20corn,%20shucked%20%20(produced%204%20cups%20of%20kernels)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20tablespoons%20olive%20oil%20%20(well,%20I%20actually%20used%20the%20chicken%20fat%20that%20had%20settled%20at%20the%20top%20of%20my%20chicken%20stock%20and%20a%20bit%20of%20olive%20oil,%20but%20just%20olive%20oil%20or%20unsalted%20butter%20would%20be%20fine.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat's%20a%20very%20packed%201/4%20cup%20of%20basil!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Slice%20corn%20kernels%20off%20cob%20and%20place%20in%20a%20bowl.%20Run%20back%20of%20a%20knife%20along%20each%20cob%20to%20remove%20additional%20corn%20pulp.%20Add%20pulp%20to%20bowl;%20reserve%20cobs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20In%20a%20medium%20soup%20pot%20or%20Dutch%20oven,%20fat,%20butter,%20or%20oil%20over%20medium%20heat.%20Stir%20in%20onion,%20green%20onion%20or%20shallot%20and%20garlic.%20Cook,%20stirring%20occasionally,%20until%20softened,%20about%205%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Add%20broth,%20reserved%20cobs,%20water,%20and%201%20teaspoon%20salt%20to%20pot.%20Bring%20to%20a%20boil%20over%20high%20heat.%20Immediately%20reduce%20heat%20to%20medium%20and%20simmer%20for%2010-15%20minutes.%20Add%20potatoes%20and%20simmer%20until%20potatoes%20are%20tender,%20about%2015%20minutes%20longer.%20Remove%20cobs%20and%20discard.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecorn%20cobs%20add%20so%20much%20flavor%20to%20any%20stock%20or%20soup!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Stir%20in%20corn%20kernels%20and%20pulp,%20tomatoes,%20remaining%201/2%20teaspoon%20salt,%20and%20pepper.%20Simmer%20for%2020%20minutes%20more.%20Stir%20in%20the%20basil%20and%20lime%20juice.%20Turn%20off%20heat%20and%20let%20soup%20cool%20for%20at%20least%2015%20minutes%20before%20serving.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd,%20to%20top%20it%20off,%20I%20added%20a%20few%20drops%20of%20hot%20sauce,%20just%20for%20fun,%20but%20it%20is%20not%20at%20all%20necessary.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eall%20done%20and%20ready%20to%20serve%20and%20garnish!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20the%20recipe%20from%20which%20I%20was%20working%20didn%E2%80%99t%20state%20anything%20about%20freezing,%20I%20came%20across%20a%20number%20of%20similar%20recipes%20that%20noted%20that%20this%20sort%20of%20chowder%20freezes%20well.%20I%20know%20how%20I%20am%20going%20to%20enjoy%20a%20fresh%20corn%20taste%20this%20winter,%20whether%20I%20make%20it%20with%20or%20without%20the%20fish!%20%20Now,%20if%20only%20I%20could%20find%20a%20way%20to%20preserve%20the%20delicate%20flavor%20and%20subtle%20crunch%20of%20squash%20blossoms.%20I%20wonder%20if%20they%20can%20be%20frozen%20as%20one%20does%20with%20basil%20leaves?%20%20I%20might%20just%20try%20that%20next.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Egarnished%20with%20basil%20leaves%20and%20a%20squash%20blossom.%20Heavenly.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
