%20but%20I%20was%20still%20intrigued.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20hosting%20dinner%20for%20my%20husband%E2%80%99s%20family%20and%20other%20than%20a%20few%20dietary%20restrictions%20(gluten%20and%20pork%20free),%20I%20knew%20some%20creative%20license%20would%20be%20appreciated.%20In%20early%20may,%20other%20than%20asparagus,%20local%20produce%20still%20mainly%20accounts%20for%20the%20end%20of%20last%20years%20root%20vegetables%20and%20some%20early%20greens.%20I%20was%20thrilled%20to%20spy%20the%20first%20radishes%20of%20the%20season%20that%20morning%20while%20shopping%20at%20the%20Grand%20Army%20Plaza%20greenmarket.%20My%20menu%20was%20already%20completely%20planned,%20but%20adding%20some%20extra%20veggies%20never%20hurt%20anyone.%20It%20was%20a%20sign.%20I%20was%20destined%20to%20cook%20radishes%20that%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20found%20the%20original%20recipe%E2%80%99s%20use%20of%20herbs%20a%20bit%20excessive.%20Or%20maybe%20I%20was%20just%20lucky%20to%20come%20across%20monster%20bunches%20of%20scallions%20and%20chives.%20Using%20a%20full%20bunch%20of%20each%20as%20directed%20would%20have%20meant%20a%20salad%20of%20greens%20with%20a%20few%20radishes%20to%20dot%20the%20dish.%20That%20just%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20do.%20I%20was%20impressed%20by%20how%20rich%20the%20dish%20seemed%20with%20only%20a%20few%20drops%20of%20cream.%20The%20dish%20was%20perfectly%20balanced.%20No%20crunch,%20but%20still%20tender%20and%20peppery,%20thanks%20to%20some%20extra%20seasoning.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20butter%20and%20olive%20oil%20in%20a%20large%20saut%C3%A9%20pan%20over%20high%20heat%20until%20shimmering.%20Add%20garlic%20scapes%20or%20green%20garlic%20and%20cook%20until%20softened,%202-3%20minutes.%20Add%20radishes%20and%20cook%20another%202-3%20minutes%20until%20they%20begin%20to%20brown.%20Add%20stock,%20reduce%20heat%20and%20simmer%20until%20radishes%20are%20tender%20and%20most%20of%20the%20liquid%20has%20evaporated.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20cream,%20increase%20heat%20to%20high,%20and%20cook%20until%20cream%20slightly%20thickens%20and%20clings%20to%20radishes,%20about%201%20minute.%20Remove%20from%20heat,%20season%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper%20and%20toss%20with%20chives%20and%20scallions.%20Serve%20immediately%20and%20enjoy%20plentifully%20(this%20is%20not%20a%20recipe%20that%20keeps%20well%20as%20leftovers).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
