%20.%20.%20.%20this%20way%20I%20don't%20have%20any%20waste,%20and%20yet%20we%20get%20to%20try%20them%20ahead%20of%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20first%20recipe%20I%20tried%20out%20is%20this%20roasted%20potato%20dish.%20%20Roast%20potatoes%20are%20a%20must%20with%20pretty%20much%20any%20British%20Sunday%20Lunch%20or%20Holiday%20Dinner.%20%20WE%20do%20love%20our%20roasties!!%20%20Normally%20they%20are%20par-boiled,%20rolled%20in%20some%20fat%20and%20then%20roasted%20at%20a%20high%20temperature%20until%20they%20are%20golden%20and%20crispy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20today%20dispenses%20with%20the%20par%20boiling%20.%20.%20.%20and%20there%20is%20not%20a%20lot%20of%20fat%20in%20it.%20%20Instead%20it%20relies%20on%20a%20mixture%20of%20an%20herby%20salt%20and%20fine%20cornmeal/polenta%20to%20give%20them%20their%20crunch.%20%20The%20herby%20salt%20was%20very%20easily%20made.%20%20The%20original%20recipe%20in%20the%20BBC%20Good%20Food%20magazine,%20December%20issue%202012,%20called%20for%20fresh%20herbs%20to%20be%20used%20to%20make%20the%20salt.%20%20I%20used%20dry%20because%20that%20is%20what%20I%20had%20and%20it%20really%20made%20no%20difference,%20except%20that%20I%20can%20save%20any%20extra%20in%20my%20cupboard%20to%20use%20another%20time%20without%20fear%20of%20it%20spoiling.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFresh%20herbs%20would%20mean%20that%20I%20would%20have%20to%20keep%20it%20in%20the%20fridge%20and%20use%20it%20up%20quickly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20turned%20out%20really%20nice%20and%20golden%20brown%20with%20a%20delicious%20crunch%20.%20.%20.%20soft%20and%20fluffy%20in%20the%20middle%20.%20.%20.%20and%20not%20at%20all%20greasy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20herbs%20gave%20them%20a%20really%20nice%20flavor,%20which%20we%20both%20enjoyed%20a%20lot!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20loved%20that%20there%20was%20only%20one%20dish%20to%20wash!%20%20Instead%20of%20the%20two%20or%20three%20that%20normal%20roasted%20potatoes%20would%20use.%20%20Less%20washing%20up%20is%20always%20a%20plus%20with%20me!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20would%20say%20that%20these%20are%20a%20definite%20contender!!%20%20I%20think%20they%20would%20make%20a%20fabulous%20Thanksgiving%20side%20as%20well!%20%20Let%20me%20know%20what%20you%20think!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*Crunchy%20Potatoes%20with%20Herby%20Salt*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%208%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20a%20recipe%20in%20BBC%20Good%20Food%20Magazine,%20December%202012.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20200*C/400*F/%20gas%20mark%206.%20%20Have%20a%20large%20roasting%20tin%20ready.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethe%20herby%20salt%20by%20putting%20everything%20into%20a%20mortal%20and%20pestle%20and%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Egrinding%20hen%20together%20until%20you%20have%20a%20fine%20salt,%20with%20lots%20of%20green%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eflecks.%20%20Toss%20the%20potatoes%20into%20the%20roasting%20pan%20with%20the%20oil,%202%20TBS%20of%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethe%20herby%20salt,%20the%20cornmeal%20and%20some%20black%20pepper%20(to%20taste)%20until%20they%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eare%20coated%20evenly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERoast%20in%20the%20heated%20oven%20for%2030%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGive%20them%20a%20good%20shake%20and%20roast%20them%20for%20a%20further%2015%20to%2020%20minutes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Euntil%20they%20cooked%20through%20and%20the%20edges%20are%20nicely%20crisped.%20%20Serve%20hot.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
