akes%20you%20through%20the%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Elives%20of%20those%20who%20made%20it%20and%20those%20who%20didn%E2%80%99t.%20My%20question%20is%20%E2%80%93%20how%20can%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eanyone%20make%20it%20under%20the%20circumstances%20these%20kids%20lived%20through?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ve%20never%20read%20a%20book%20quite%20like%20CRY%20into%20the%20WIND.%20It%20took%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eme%20back%20to%20my%20own%20childhood%20when%20I%20was%20in%201st%20grade.%20We%20had%20a%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Estudent,%20much%20like%20Othello%E2%80%99s%20and%20her%20brothers%20and%20sisters.%20He%20came%20from%20a%20very%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Epoor%20family%20and%20it%20showed%20in%20the%20clothes%20he%20wore%20and%20the%20shoes%20he%20didn%E2%80%99t%20wear%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebecause%20he%20had%20none.%20I%20can%20remember%20feeling%20so%20sorry%20for%20him.%20He%20had%20six%20toes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eon%20each%20foot%20and%20the%20other%20kids%20called%20him%20a%20freak,%20telling%20him%20he%20should%20be%20in%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ea%20circus.%20The%20teachers%20weren%E2%80%99t%20much%20better.%20They%20allowed%20the%20kids%20to%20make%20fun%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eof%20this%20little%20boy.%20Me?%20I%20just%20stood%20back%20and%20did%20nothing.%20Now%20I%20feel%20bad%20for%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Enot%20trying%20to%20either%20befriend%20him%20or%20stand%20up%20for%20him.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECRY%20into%20the%20WIND%20shines%20a%20lot%20of%20light%20on%20the%20way%20life%20of%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethe%20poor%20was%20like%20in%20the%2040s%20and%2050s.%20Is%20it%20still%20like%20that%20today?%20Most%20of%20us%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewill%20say%20no%20but%20I%20bet%20if%20we%20really%20opened%20our%20eyes%20and%20took%20off%20the%20blinders%20we%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Emight%20discover%20that%20some%20things%20never%20change.%20Read%20the%20book.%20It%20will%20make%20you%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Emore%20aware%20of%20your%20surroundings%20as%20it%20has%20me.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
