%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGreen%20Beans%20(2%20lbs)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECabbage%20(1)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAssorted%20Squash%20(8)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScallions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOriental%20Eggplant%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGreen%20Bell%20Peppers%20(2)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPurple%20Pepper%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHot%20Peppers%20(cherry%20bomb%20(2),%20jalapeno%20(4),%20ancho%20(2),%20white%20fire%20(2),%20serrano%20(2),%20long%20hot%20(2),%20sweet%20banana%20(2)%20I%20am%20canning%20sweet/hot%20pepper%20jelly%20this%20afternoon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESweet%20Corn%20(8)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBi-color%20sweet%20corn%20(8)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETomatoes%20(4)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECauliflower%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBasil%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECilantro%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENectarines%20(3)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESwiss%20Chard%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMusk%20Melon%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKale%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20spent%20a%20little%20time%20(39%20minutes,%20I%20timed%20myself**)%20yesterday%20afternoon%20peeling,%20par%20boiling%20and%20stripping%20sweet%20corn.%20I%20now%20have%20several%20bags,%20about%2012%20servings%20in%20all,%20sitting%20prettily%20in%20my%20freezer%20waiting%20for%20a%20cold%20winter%20day%20when%20I%20will%20microwave%20that%20corn%20and%20get%20a%20taste%20of%20East%20Coast%20Summer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20like%20to%20think%20about%20the%20circle%20of%20life%20of%20this%20corn.%20The%20corn%20will%20feed%20my%20family%20today,%20tomorrow%20and%20this%20winter.%20These%20husks%20will%20go%20into%20my%20composter,%20which%20will%20feed%20my%20garden%20next%20spring%20in%20the%20form%20of%20fertilizer.%20The%20produce%20from%20my%20garden%20will%20feed%20my%20family%20next%20spring%20and%20summer%20and%20so%20on%20and%20so%20on%20and%20so%20on.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20I%20was%20peeling%20the%20corn%20I%20put%20some%20Kale%20in%20the%20oven%20to%20crisp%20up.%20Oh,%20you%20never%20heard%20of%20that?%20YUM.%20Heat%20the%20oven%20to%20400.%20Spray%20the%20kale%20with%20a%20little%20olive%20oil,%20sprinkle%20with%20sea%20salt%20and%20bake%20for%20about%2010%20minutes.%20Check%20it.%20If%20it's%20crisp%20it's%20done.%20If%20not,%20bake%20for%20another%202%20or%203%20minutes.%20Cool.%20Tastes%20like%20potato%20chips.%20TBHITW%20likes%20a%20few%20red%20pepper%20flakes%20sprinkled%20on%20his.%20He's%20a%20spicy%20kind%20of%20guy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20afternoon%20I%20am%20making%20my%20first%20ever%20batch%20of%20Pepper%20Jelly.%20I%20love%20this%20little%20relish%20served%20with%20cool%20cream%20cheese%20and%20spread%20on%20a%20cracker,%20it%20is%20like%20eating%20the%20Fourth%20of%20July!%20If%20it%20gets%20good%20I'll%20share%20the%20recipe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20kitchen%20window%20is%20filling%20up%20with%20tomatoes%20and%20eventually%20I%20will%20make%20marina%20sauce%20that%20will%20either%20go%20into%20the%20canner%20or%20freezer%20but%20for%20now%20we%20haven't%20had%20our%20fill%20of%20fresh,%20garden%20sweet%20tomatoes.%20Having%20tomatoes%20on%20your%20window%20sill%20make%20dinner%20planning%20easy.%20Something%20fresh,%20something%20fast,%20something%20satisfying.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20olive%20oil%20into%20a%20small%20skillet.%20Heat%20over%20medium%20flame%20and%20add%20the%20garlic.%20Cook%20just%20until%20the%20garlic%20sizzles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EImmediately,%20remove%20from%20heat%20and%20add%20herbs.%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20the%20tomatoes%20and%20reserved%20fresh%20herbs%20in%20a%20medium%20bowl.%20Add%20a%20splash%20of%20very%20good%20balsamic%20vinegar.%20Set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20put%20a%20pot%20of%20salted%20water%20on%20to%20boil.%20Add%20the%20cavatelli%20and%20cook%20according%20to%20package%20directions.%20Drain%20and%20toss%20with%20the%20olive%20oil%20/%20herb%20mixture.%20Place%20in%20a%20bowl%20and%20pass%20along%20with%20the%20tomato%20mixture.%20To%20assemble,%20place%20some%20pasta%20on%20your%20plate,%20top%20with%20the%20tomato%20/%20herb%20/%20vinegar%20mixture%20and%20top%20with%20fresh%20parmesan.%20It's%20like%20a%20summer%20party%20in%20your%20mouth!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20Cook's%20Notes:%20You%20can%20serve%20this%20as%20an%20appetizer,%20main%20course%20or%20side%20dish.%20A%20simple%20grilled%20chicken%20breast%20or%20grilled%20shrimp%20round%20out%20this%20dish%20beautifully.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E**I%20am%20not%20OCD.%20I%20timed%20myself%20because%20I%20was%20curious%20to%20see%20just%20how%20long%20processing%20a%20dozen%20ears%20of%20corn%20actually%20took%20me.%20In%20thirty-nine%20minutes%20I%20could%20not%20get%20into%20my%20car,%20drive%20to%20the%20grocery%20store,%20and%20buy%20frozen%20corn%20and%20drive%20home.%20Certainly%20the%20frozen,%20store%20bought%20corn%20would%20not%20be%20as%20good%20-%20both%20in%20flavor%20and%20nutrients%20as%20my%20homegrown,%20home%20frozen%20corn.%20Just%20saying....%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
