As we are about to leave for one last huzzah (a week on the beach in Maine sans computer!!!) before we teachers have to go back to The Place That Must Not Be Named, we'll leave you with a few tidbits from our recent trip to New Orleans. We had eaten dinner the previous night at Restaurant R'evolution and should have still been full from that, but when we're in the Big Easy, we seem to have hollow legs, so the next afternoon, we went to Domenica, a John Besh restaurant at the gorgeous Roosevelt Hotel.

%20before%20we%20teachers%20have%20to%20go%20back%20to%20The%20Place%20That%20Must%20Not%20Be%20Named,%20we'll%20leave%20you%20with%20a%20few%20tidbits%20from%20our%20recent%20trip%20to%20New%20Orleans.%20We%20had%20eaten%20dinner%20the%20previous%20night%20at%20Restaurant%20R'evolution%20and%20should%20have%20still%20been%20full%20from%20that,%20but%20when%20we're%20in%20the%20Big%20Easy,%20we%20seem%20to%20have%20hollow%20legs,%20so%20the%20next%20afternoon,%20we%20went%20to%20Domenica,%20a%20John%20Besh%20restaurant%20at%20the%20gorgeous%20Roosevelt%20Hotel.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20hotel%20is%20one%20block%20off%20Canal%20Street%20and%20is%20an%20impressive%20sight%20to%20behold.%20The%20Art%20Deco%20style%20permeates%20the%20building%20that%20opened%20as%20the%20luxurious%20Grunewald%20Hotel%20in%201893%20and%20stretches%20an%20entire%20city%20block%20still.%20An%20ambitious%20renovation%20project%20post-Katrina%20has%20restored%20it%20gloriously,%20and%20the%20addition%20of%20a%20top%20chef's%20restaurant%20adds%20to%20its%20allure.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20Domenica%20(which%20means%20%22Sunday%22%20in%20Italian)%20is%20casually%20elegant%20rather%20than%20snobbishly%20so.%20Sparkling%20chandeliers%20hover%20over%20espresso-colored%20wooden%20tables%20where%20each%20placemat%20also%20serves%20as%20the%20menu.%20The%20menu%20highlights%20homey%20Italian%20specialties%20(pizze,%20salumi,%20antipasti,%20pasta,%20panini,%20dolci)%20with%20a%20contemporary%20chic%20touch,%20all%20the%20while%20focusing%20on%20the%20bounty%20and%20traditions%20of%20the%20American%20South.%20In%20other%20words,%20it's%20John%20Besh%20doing%20Italian%20and%20doing%20it%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20chef's%20selection%20of%20salumi,%20cheese,%20olives%20and%20vegetables%20featured%20meats%20that%20were%20sliced%20so%20thinly%20you%20could%20see%20through%20them.%20We%20adored%20those%20pillowy%20fried%20doughs%20that%20came%20with%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20roasted%20cauliflower,%20served%20with%20a%20whipped%20goat%20feta%20cheese%20dip,%20was%20exquisite%20in%20its%20simplicity.%20We%20are%20totally%20going%20to%20attempt%20to%20duplicate%20this%20one%20at%20our%20next%20dinner%20party!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20contrasting%20colors%20and%20flavors%20of%20the%20squid%20ink%20tagliolini%20(black%20ink%20pasta%20tossed%20with%20opaque%20white%20crabmeat)%20made%20for%20a%20dish%20that%20was%20both%20beautiful%20to%20look%20at%20and%20to%20taste.%20The%20local%20crabmeat%20was%20so%20very%20fresh!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPizzas%20were%20thin%20and%20crispy%20and%20topped%20with%20the%20freshest%20of%20ingredients%20-%20of%20the%20sort%20that%20would%20be%20well%20at%20home%20in%20a%20Roman%20pizzeria,%20except%20for%20the%20local%20Abita%20brew%20that%20J%20washed%20it%20down%20with,%20of%20course.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20bite%20of%20the%20tagliatelle%20with%20rabbit%20and%20porcini%20mushrooms%20took%20us%20back%20a%20decade%20to%20our%20trip%20to%20Tuscany.%20The%20rabbit%20was%20moist,%20the%20mushrooms%20earthy,%20and%20the%20dish%20well-composed.%20Delicioso!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20desserts%20were%20also%20quite%20inspiring,%20particularly%20the%20oven-roasted%20peach%20cake,%20with%20Nebbiolo-poached%20figs%20and%20fiore%20di%20latte%20gelato.%20The%20crema%20cotta%20and%20pistachio%20crostata,%20with%20its%20many%20layers%20of%20differing%20tastes%20and%20textures,%20formed%20individually%20delightful%20bites.%20And%20the%20gelati%20were%20creamy,%20cold,%20refreshing%20and%20flavorful.%20Very%20traditionally%20Italian!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20quite%20the%20lunch%20(yes,%20lunch!)%20and%20we%20very%20much%20enjoyed%20the%20incredible%20food,%20the%20beautiful%20setting,%20and%20being%20treated%20to%20it%20all%20by%20the%20best%20of%20friends.%20Thank%20you%20again,%20J%20and%20K!%20Love%20and%20miss%20you!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
