%20and%20lemon%20juice%20in%20a%20pan%20and%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Estir%20over%20a%20low%20heat%20for%202%20minutes%20or%20so%20and%20then%20add%20the%20flour%20and%20the%20stock%20and%20bring%20steadily%20to%20the%20boil%20in%20order%20to%20make%20a%20gravy.%20This%20can%20be%20thickened%20to%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Etaste%20by%20adding%20a%20little%20more%20flour.%20Add%20seasoning,%20nutmeg%20and%20parsley%20and%20then%20pour%20over%20cutlets%20and%20mushrooms.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECook%20@%20325%20degrees%20for%2090%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEllen%E2%80%99s%20Gold%20%E2%80%93%20Review%20by%20Martha%20A.%20Cheves,%20Author%20of%20Stir,%20Laugh,%20Repeat;%20A%20Book%20and%20A%20Dish;%20Think%20With%20Your%20Taste%20Buds%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrom%20its%20frontispiece%20it%20was%20apparent%20that%20the%20book%20had%20been%20published%20in%20Augsburg%20in%201784.%20It%20was%20so%20dusty%20that%20he%20wondered%20if%20it%20had%20gone%20unread%20and%20forgotten%20for%20nearly%20as%20long.%20What%20intrigued%20him%20about%20it%20though%20were%20the%20words%20written%20in%20English%20across%20the%20cover%20%E2%80%9Ctwo%20times%20eight,%E2%80%9D%20not%20once%20but%20three%20times.%20It%20seemed%20very%20strange,%20and%20when%20he%20began%20to%20thumb%20through%20the%20book%20he%20also%20discovered%20the%20words,%20again%20in%20English,%20%E2%80%9C10%20times%2010%E2%80%9D%20had%20been%20written%20on%20a%20couple%20of%20pages.%20It%20also%20looked%20as%20if%20these%20pages%20had%20been%20glued%20together%20and%20then%20pulled%20apart.%20Further%20on%20still%20he%20discovered%20that%20two%20pages%20had%20been%20cut%20out%20of%20the%20book.%20Then,%20most%20surprisingly,%20he%20came%20across%20a%20drawing%20on%20a%20blank%20page.%20It%20was%20clearly%20a%20crude%20map%20of%20a%20locality,%20which%20meant%20nothing%20to%20him%20except%20that%20it%20included%20a%20road%20marked%20as%20leading%20to%20Erfurt.%20The%20book%20had%20effectively%20been%20defaced,%20but%20clearly%20with%20some%20deliberate%20purpose%20rather%20than%20through%20mindless%20vandalism.%20Suddenly,%20he%20felt%20something%20lying%20under%20the%20flap%20at%20the%20back%20of%20it.%20To%20his%20surprise%20it%20was%20a%20letter,%20or%20part%20of%20a%20letter,%20for%20there%20was%20no%20signature,%20dated%2013th%20December%201813,%20and%20written%20in%20English.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMax%20Kelber%20owned%20a%20book%20shop%20and%20when%20Frau%20Paulsen%20offered%20her%20large%20collection%20of%20books,%20he%20made%20the%20trip%20to%20her%20home%20to%20take%20is%20pick.%20Among%20the%20books%20he%20found%20the%20mystery%20book%20with%20its%20puzzling%20code,%20map%20and%20then%20a%20letter%20addressed%20to%20just%20the%20name%20Ellen.%20The%20letter,%20also%20written%20in%20English,%20gave%20what%20appeared%20to%20be%20coded%20directions%20to%20the%20treasure%20that%20was%20hidden%20near%20the%20town%20of%20Erfurt.%20But%20who%20is%20Ellen%20and%20where%20exactly%20is%20the%20treasure?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEllen%20Charpentier%20lives%20is%20from%20and%20lives%20in%20Paris.%20Colonel%20Michael%20Korsowski%20is%20from%20Poland%20and%20is%20serving%20under%20Napoleon%20in%20his%20battle%20against%20Russia%20to%20recover%20land%20that%20once%20belonged%20to%20Poland.%20With%20Ellen%20and%20Michael,%20it%20was%20love%20at%20first%20sight%20and%20the%20more%20they%20saw%20of%20each%20other,%20the%20more%20they%20knew%20they%20were%20meant%20for%20each%20other%20no%20matter%20what.%20Ellen,%20a%20widow,%20was%20free%20give%20her%20heart%20to%20Michael%20but%20he%20was%20married%20to%20a%20woman%20who%20refused%20to%20grant%20him%20a%20divorce%20so%20Michael%20became%20a%20career%20soldier%20as%20his%20only%20means%20of%20being%20out%20of%20a%20marriage%20that%20had%20no%20love.%20As%20the%20war%20takes%20Michael%20and%20his%20troops%20into%20Russia,%20they%20are%20able%20to%20capture%20the%20city%20of%20Moscow.%20Along%20with%20the%20capture%20they%20discover%20riches%20beyond%20anyone%E2%80%99s%20dreams.%20This,%20he%20believes,%20will%20be%20his%20ticket%20to%20a%20happier%20life.%20Even%20if%20he%20can%E2%80%99t%20marry%20Ellen,%20they%20can%20take%20their%20share%20of%20the%20treasure%20and%20go%20to%20America%20to%20start%20a%20new%20life%20together.%20But%20what%20Michael%20nor%20anyone%20within%20his%20commend%20counted%20on%20was%20the%20severity%20of%20the%20Russian%20winters.%20As%20they%20lost%20men%20and%20horses%20they%20were%20also%20faced%20with%20having%20to%20do%20something%20with%20the%20treasure.%20This%20eventually%20left%20them%20with%20no%20choice%20but%20to%20bury%20it%20with%20hopes%20of%20coming%20back%20after%20the%20war%20ended.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EReading%20Ellen%E2%80%99s%20Gold%20was%20like%20reading%20a%20history%20book%20but%20an%20enjoyable%20history%20book.%20The%20battles%20were%20clear%20enough%20that%20I%20felt%20like%20I%20was%20actually%20%E2%80%98reading%E2%80%99%20a%20movie.%20I%20could%20picture%20each%20event%20in%20my%20mind%20as%20I%20read%20along.%20I%20could%20see%20the%20frozen%20Russian%20winters,%20the%20struggles%20that%20Napoleon%E2%80%99s%20armies%20had%20as%20they%20tried%20to%20survive%20the%20cold%20without%20food%20for%20themselves%20nor%20their%20horses.%20I%20could%20also%20feel%20the%20desire%20each%20man%20had%20to%20keep%20the%20treasure%20safe%20so%20that%20when%20the%20war%20was%20over%20and%20he%20received%20his%20share%20he%20could%20start%20a%20new%20life%20of%20ease%20and%20comfort.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut,%20if%20the%20letter%20was%20found%20years%20later%20within%20a%20book,%20was%20the%20treasure%20ever%20found?%20Will%20Kebler%20search%20for%20this%20treasure%20for%20himself?%20Will%20any%20of%20the%20men%20who%20carried%20it%20so%20far%20out%20of%20Russia%20live%20to%20collect%20their%20share?%20The%20answers%20to%20those%20questions%20and%20more%20are%20found%20within%20the%20book%20which%20I%20feel%20you%20will%20enjoy%20searching%20for%20as%20you%20read%20Ellen%E2%80%99s%20Gold%20which%20is%20really%20two%20stories%20in%20one;%20the%201st%20being%20the%20survival%20of%20not%20only%20the%20treasure%20but%20also%20Michael%20and%20his%20men.%20The%20second%20story%20is%20more%20of%20a%20gothic%20novel%20with%20kidnapping%20and%20murder.%20All-in-all%20Ellen's%20Gold%20is%20a%20really%20top%20grade%20book!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
