,%20and%20that%20was%20that.%20I%20gobbled%20up%20every%20little%20piece%20of%20that%20ruby%20red%20citrus%20in%20all%20its%E2%80%99%20glory,%20and%20I%E2%80%99d%20squeeze%20the%20remaining%20juice%20into%20the%20bowl%20and%20drink%20it%20in%20one%20large%20slurp,%20sorta%20like%20the%20way%20you%20drink%20the%20milk%20after%20downing%20a%20bowl%20of%20Cookie%20Crisp%20or%20Fruity%20Pebbles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat,%20in%20a%20nutshell,%20is%20my%20experience%20with%20grapefruit.%20I%20find%20it%20odd,%20since%20I%20choose%20citrus%20fruits%20any%20day%20over%20berries%20(well,%20seed-bearing%20berries,%20because%20I%20hate%20having%20to%20maneuver%20around%20them).%20Why,%20I%20could%20eat%20a%20lemon%20whole%20and%20have%20eaten%20them%20in%20that%20fashion%20since%20learning%20how%20to%20from%20my%20parents%E2%80%99%20French%20spades/hearts%20comrade,%20Aurora.%20I%20remember%20thinking%20she%20was%20so%20cool%20because%20she%20was%20the%20only%20person%20I%20knew%20who%20drank%20alcoholic%20beverages%20so%20%E2%80%9Cneatly%E2%80%9D%20%E2%80%93%20by%20eating%20the%20entire%20citrus%20slice%20without%20changing%20her%20expression%20one%20iota,%20and%20not%20leaving%20that%20silly%20rind%20behind%20like%20unwanted%20garbage%20beside%20the%20cherry%20stem.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20no,%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20eating%20grapefruit%20rinds%20anytime%20soon%20%E2%80%93%20they%E2%80%99re%20way%20too%20thick%20and%20tasteless.%20But,%20but,%20I%20did%20eat%20a%20shit-ton%20of%20grapefruit-containing%20foods!%20Yes,%20friends,%20the%20eighth%20installment%20of%20the%20infamous%20Iron%20Chef%20Chicago%20battles%20%E2%80%93%20those%20monthly%20(in%20general)%20gatherings%20involving%20lots%20of%20good%20friends%20who%20love%20to%20eat.%20This%20time,%20we%20delved%20into%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20%E2%80%9Ceat%20by%20itself%20with%20sugar%E2%80%9D%20fruits%20(strawberry%20being%20second%20on%20that%20list,%20which%20already%20happened).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20while%20many%20associate%20citrus%20with%20summer,%20grapefruits%20are%20now%20at%20their%20peak%20and%20are%20a%20great%20escape%20from%20all%20this%20winter%20squash%20and%20stew,%20if%20you%E2%80%99re%20feeling%20the%20need%20to%20get%20away%20to%20somewhere%20warmer%20but%20can%E2%80%99t%20quite%20make%20it%20to%20the%20Bahamas%20right%20now.%20Tart%20and%20tangy,%20juicy%20and%20sweet,%20these%20citrus%20rounds%20are%20loaded%20with%20vitamin%20C%20and%20lycopene%20and%20go%20well%20with%20all%20sorts%20of%20foods,%20as%20you%20can%20see%20from%20all%20these%20lovely%20dishes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20one%20dish,%20I%20went%20for%20a%20tried-and-true%20new%20favorite%20of%20mine%20and%20made%20two%20different%20flavors%20of%20grapefruit%20marshmallows%20(one%20with%20cardamom%20and%20one%20with%20ginger),%20and%20then%20fell%20upon%20a%20recipe%20for%20stuffed%20whole%20fish%20with%20grapefruit%20vinaigrette%20and%20grapefruit%20butter%20(served%20with%20millet%20instead%20of%20couscous),%20courtesy%20of%20my%20DVR%20and%20Tyler%E2%80%99s%20Ultimate.%20We%20had%20a%20couple%20of%20drinks,%20sorbet,%20various%20shrimp%20and%20scallop%20dishes,%20cakes%20and%20even%20lettuce%20wraps%20&%20pizza.%20It%20was,%20as%20usual,%20quite%20a%20spread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20top%20three:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHope%E2%80%99s%20%E2%80%98Dark%20Chocolate%20Grapefruit%20Cake%E2%80%99,%20a%20gluten-free%20&%20vegan%20must%20have.%20I%20think%20Jon%20almost%20crapped%20his%20pants%20it%20was%20so%20good,%20and%20this%20time%20he%20got%20to%20eat%20cake%20with%20the%20rest%20of%20us!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJames%E2%80%99%20%E2%80%98Grapefruit%20Cheesecake%E2%80%99%20&%20(yes,%20a%20tie!)%20Christina%E2%80%99s%20%E2%80%98Grapefruit/Pork%20Lettuce%20Wraps%E2%80%99.%20James%20is%20a%20newcomer%20(Hope%E2%80%99s%20boyfriend%20%E2%80%93%20he%20does%20exist!!)%20who%20really%20came%20strong%20during%20his%20first%20attempt.%20Christina%20always%20seems%20to%20bring%20strong%20dishes%20and%20is%20getting%20very%20close%20to%20a%20win,%20I%20suspect.%20The%20wraps%20were%20my%20personal%20favorite,%20with%20both%20cakes%20coming%20in%20next.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20%E2%80%98Grapefruit%20Marshmallows%20x2%E2%80%B2.%20Clearly,%20you%20can%E2%80%99t%20go%20wrong%20with%20marshmallows,%20can%20you?%20I%20love%20them%20so%20much%20I%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20start%20manufacturing%20them%20(yes%20manufacturing)%20and%20selling%20them%20on%20Etsy.%20I%E2%80%99m%20serious.%20Wait%20for%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20with%20that,%20it%20looks%20as%20if%20the%20girls%20are%20back%20in%20business%20with%20two%20straight%20wins%20following%20the%20guys%E2%80%99%20run.%20With%20the%209th%20competition%20right%20around%20the%20corner,%20February%E2%80%99s%20ingredient%20is%20sure%20to%20be%20a%20great%20one,%20as%20long%20as%20Hope%20can%20whittle%20down%20that%20list%20of%20possibilities!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDark%20Chocolate%20Grapefruit%20Cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHope%E2%80%99s%20winning%20vegan,%20gluten-free%20recipe%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eadapted%20from%20the%2
