%20Did%20you%20get%20that?%20Just%20checking.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOther%20than%20that,%20this%20post%20is%20about%20Buckle%20and%20my%20$600%20leather%20couch,%20which%20was%20a%20hand-me-down%20from%20my%20sister%20because%20you%20guys%20know%20I%E2%80%99m%20a%20teacher,%20right?%20My%20furniture%20generally%20either%20comes%20from%20generous%20family%20members%20or%20Goodwill.%20Ikea%20is%20my%20splurge.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20owning%20a%20$600%20leather%20couch%20was%20decidedly%20awesome.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9CI%20was%20told%20there%E2%80%99d%20be%20cake.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBuckle%20is%20also%20awesome.%20He%E2%80%99s%20a%20good%20cat.%20He%E2%80%99s%20sweet%20and%20fun.%20He%20looks%20and%20acts%20just%20like%20Milton%20from%20Office%20Space.%20I%20really%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20ask%20for%20anything%20more.%20Except,%20maybe,%20for%20him%20not%20to%20ruin%20my%20$600%20leather%20couch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUpon%20letting%20him%20out%20of%20his%20little%20cardboard%20carrier%20when%20we%20got%20home%20from%20the%20Humane%20Society,%20as%20a%20matter%20of%20fact,%20that%20was%20the%20one%20thing%20I%20was%20very%20clear%20to%20him%20about%20(well,%20that%20and%20not%20shredding%20the%20poodle):%20Please%20do%20not%20ruin%20my%20couch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20first%20time%20I%20left%20Buckle%20alone,%20I%20was%20terrified%20he%20would%20decide%20my%20couch%20was%20a%20scratching%20post.%20But%20he%20met%20me%20at%20the%20door%20when%20I%20arrived%20home,%20purring%20and%20cuddly,%20and%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20find%20a%20single%20scratch.%20It%20was%20a%20kitty%20cat%20miracle.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20I%20left%20him%20alone%20more%20often%20and%20continued%20coming%20home%20to%20intact%20furniture,%20I%20think%20I%20got%20a%20little%20.%20.%20.%20overconfident.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFinally%20the%20weekend%20came%20where%20I%20needed%20to%20leave%20Buckle%20alone%20to%20visit%20Mike%20in%20Raleigh.%20I%20hired%20a%20petsitter%20to%20check%20in%20on%20him%20(Buckle,%20not%20Mike,%20although%20perhaps%20I%20should%20consider%20that),%20and%20everything%20seemed%20to%20go%20fine.%20I%20found%20a%20cheery%20note%20from%20her%20when%20I%20arrived%20home.%20But%20something%20just%20smelled%20a%20little%20off.%20I%20figured%20it%20was%20his%20litter%20box.%20Except%20that%20when%20I%20went%20to%20check,%20the%20door%20to%20his%20litter%20box%20closet%20was%20closed.%20So%20that%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20be%20it%20.%20.%20.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWait.%20Closed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20door%20to%20his%20litter%20box%20closet%20was%20closed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBless%20Buckle%E2%80%99s%20sweet%20kitty%20heart%20(which%20those%20of%20you%20who%20are%20Southern%20will%20be%20able%20to%20translate%20appropriately),%20he%20had%20apparently%20rubbed%20against%20his%20litter%20box%20closet%20door%20and%20closed%20it.%20With%20nowhere%20to%20potty,%20he%20had%20made%20the%20very%20best%20choice%20he%20could.%20You%20guessed%20it:%20to%20use%20the%20couch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20have%20used%20the%20carpet%20or,%20even%20better,%20the%20linoleum%20kitchen%20floor.%20It%20had%20to%20be%20the%20$600%20leather%20couch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%E2%80%99ve%20ever%20tried%20to%20deal%20with%20the%20uniquely%20pungent%20problem%20of%20a%20cat%20accident,%20you%20won%E2%80%99t%20be%20surprised%20that%20after%20a%20month%20or%20so%20of%20cleaning%20the%20cushions%20with%20every%20method%20known%20to%20humanity,%20the%20$600%20leather%20couch%20ended%20up%20by%20the%20dumpster.%20All%E2%80%99s%20well%20that%20ends%20well,%20I%20guess:%20I%20received%20my%20tax%20refund,%20splurged%20on%20an%20Ikea%20couch%20and%20coffee%20table,%20and%20wedged%20a%20billion%20washcloths%20in%20Buckle%E2%80%99s%20litter%20box%20closet%20door%20so%20that%20it%20will%20never%20close%20again.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBuckle%20is%20helping%20me%20get%20used%20to%20the%20new%20furniture%20by%20using%20it%20as%20a%20jungle%20gym.%20One%20of%20my%20students%20actually%20asked%20me%20after%20the%20incident,%20%E2%80%9CAre%20you%20going%20to%20take%20him%20back%20to%20the%20Humane%20Society?%E2%80%9D%20But%20I%E2%80%99m%20happy%20to%20say%20that%20Buckle%E2%80%99s%20a%20part%20of%20my%20family%20now,%20flaws%20and%20all.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
