,%20so%20the%20time%20that%20we%20do%20get%20together%20is%20very%20much%20coveted%20and%20enjoyed.%20My%20sister%20came%20to%20visit%20over%20the%20long%20weekend,%20and%20I%20asked%20her%20before%20she%20arrived%20what%20she%20wanted%20to%20do%20during%20her%20stay%20with%20us.%20Her%20only%20requests%20were%20centered%20around%20food%20(there%20is%20no%20doubt%20that%20we%20are%20related!).%20She%20asked%20if%20we%20could%20make%20the%20butternut%20squash%20gnocchi%20and%20maybe%20try%20some%20other%20dishes%20that%20she%E2%80%99s%20heard%20me%20mention%20a%20time%20or%20two.%20I%20had%20no%20complaint,%20especially%20because%20making%20gnocchi%20is%20a%20much%20more%20enjoyable%20experience%20when%20you%20make%20them%20with%20family.%20Saturday%20night%20dinner%20was%20butternut%20squash%20gnocchi%20topped%20off%20with%20homemade%20crepes%20with%20Nutella%20(pronounced%20new-tella-uh)%20and%20strawberries%20for%20dessert.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20realize%20that%20some%20people%20may%20balk%20at%20finding%20crepes%20(typically%20thought%20of%20as%20French%20cuisine%20rather%20than%20Italian)%20on%20my%20blog,%20but%20my%20thought%20is%20that%20any%20dish%20that%20has%20Nutella%20is%20Italian.%20I%20love%20the%20rich%20hazelnut-chocolate%20flavor%20of%20Nutella.%20I%20could%20seriously%20eat%20it%20everyday.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20those%20of%20you%20who%20are%20not%20familiar%20with%20Nutella,%20let%20me%20enlighten%20you.%20Nutella%20was%20created%20during%20World%20War%20II%20by%20Pietro%20Ferrero.%20Because%20of%20the%20war,%20cocoa%20was%20hard%20to%20come%20by,%20so%20he%20used%20hazelnuts%20(abundantly%20found%20in%20Piedmont)%20to%20get%20more%20miles%20out%20of%20the%20cocoa.%20Brilliant,%20Signore%20Ferrero!%20The%20original%20form%20of%20Nutella%20was%20similar%20to%20a%20loaf%20of%20bread%20(mothers%20could%20cut%20it%20like%20deli%20meat%20and%20place%20it%20in%20between%20two%20slices%20of%20bread),%20but%20Ferrero%20eventually%20altered%20the%20recipe%20to%20be%20a%20spreadable%20cream.%20This%20eliminated%20the%20trend%20of%20kids%20throwing%20away%20the%20bread%20to%20just%20eat%20the%20Nutella.%20You%20can%20imagine%20the%20popularity%20with%20which%20this%20was%20received!%20Nutella%20made%20its%20American%20debut%20in%20the%20early%201980s.%20You%20should%20be%20able%20to%20find%20Nutella%20in%20your%20local%20grocery%20store%20near%20the%20peanut%20butter%20(but%20it%E2%80%99s%20really%20way%20better%20than%20peanut%20butter!).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBack%20to%20the%20crepes.%20The%20Nutella%20compliments%20the%20delicate%20flavor%20of%20the%20crepe,%20while%20strawberries%20and%20homemade%20whipped%20cream%20are%20the%20perfect%20addition.%20These%20are%20super%20easy%20to%20make,%20and%20they%20will%20impress%20any%20guest%20who%20may%20find%20themselves%20at%20your%20table%E2%80%93whether%20it%E2%80%99s%20your%20sister%20or%20your%20neighbor.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStrawberry%20&%20Nutella%20Crepes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECrepes%20(recipe%20courtesy%20of%20Gourmet%20Magazine)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20blender%20or%20food%20processor,%20blend%20the%20flour,%20water,%20milk,%20eggs,%20butter,%20and%20salt%20for%205%20seconds.%20Turn%20off%20motor,%20with%20a%20rubber%20spatula%20scrape%20down%20the%20sides%20of%20the%20container,%20and%20blend%20the%20batter%20for%2020%20seconds.%20Transfer%20the%20batter%20to%20a%20bowl%20and%20let%20it%20stand,%20covered,%20for%201%20hour.%20(The%20batter%20may%20be%20made%20up%20to%201%20day%20in%20advance%20and%20kept%20covered%20and%20chilled.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20a%20crepe%20pan%20or%20nonstick%20skillet%20(6%20to%207%20inches%20across)%20over%20moderate%20heat%20until%20it%20is%20hot.%20Brush%20the%20pan%20lightly%20with%20butter,%20heat%20the%20pan%20until%20it%20is%20hot%20but%20not%20smoking,%20and%20remove%20it%20from%20heat.%20Stir%20the%20batter,%20half%20fill%20a%201/4%20cup%20measuring%20cup%20with%20it,%20and%20pour%20the%20batter%20into%20the%20pan.%20Tilt%20and%20rotate%20the%20pan%20quickly%20to%20cover%20the%20bottom%20with%20a%20thin%20layer%20of%20batter%20and%20then%20turn%20the%20pan%20to%20the%20heat,%20loosen%20the%20edge%20of%20the%20crepe%20until%20the%20underside%20is%20browned%20lightly.%20Turn%20the%20crepe,%20brown%20the%20other%20side%20lightly,%20and%20transfer%20the%20crepe%20to%20a%20plate.%20Make%20crepes%20with%20remaining%20batter%20in%20the%20same%20manner,%20brushing%20with%20butter%20as%20necessary.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20whole%20process%20is%20much%20easier,%20of%20course,%20if%20you%20have%20a%20crepe%20maker%20that%20you%20dip%20into%20the%20batter%20itself.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHomemade%20Whipped%20Cream%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20be%20honest,%20I%20make%20this%20slightly%20differently%20each%20time,%20depending%20on%20how%20many%20people%20and%20my%20guesstimation%20of%20ingredients,%20but%20this%20is%20probably%20fairly%20close.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/2%20pint%20heavy%20whipping%20cream%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20Tablespoons%20sugar%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20Tablespoon%20vanilla%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBegin%20whipping%20cream%20in%20mixer.%20Add%20sugar%20and%20vanilla.%20Beat%20until%20thick%20but%20not%20buttery.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECrepe%20Assembly%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECrepe%20assembly%20really%20depends%20on%20how%20you%20like%20your%20crepe.%20We%20usually%20place%20on%20crepe%20on%20a%20plate%20and%20spread%20a%20generous%20amount%20of%20Nutella%20in%20the%20center%20of%20the%20crepe.%20Next,%20we%20add%20a%20spoonful%20of%20sliced%20strawberries,%20before%20folding%20the%20crepe%20into%20thirds.%20A%20dollop%20of%20homemade%20whipped%20cream%20goes%20on%20top.%20Serve%20and%20enjoy!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
