.%20I%20like%20planning%20vacations,%20but%20I%20prefer%20to%20have%20a%20%E2%80%9Cdestination%E2%80%9D%20and%20go%20from%20there,%20with%20a%20limited%20agenda%20(this%20is%20making%20the%20upcoming%20vacation%20tricky,%20I%E2%80%99m%20finding).%20I%20have%20a%20list%20of%20restaurants%20to%20go%20to,%20but%20I%20hate%20having%20to%20make%20reservations%20and%20would%20prefer%20to%20just%20show%20up%20when%20I%20want%20to%20eat%20there%20(Rick%20Bayless%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20allow%20that,%20sadly.%20I%20still%20haven%E2%80%99t%20planned%20far%20enough%20in%20advance%20to%20go%20to%20Frontera.).%20And%20when%20it%20comes%20to%20food,%20I%20generally%20use%20recipes,%20but%20I%20never%20measure%20and%20I%20won%E2%80%99t%20pretend%20for%20a%20second%20that%20the%20recipes%20are%20followed%20very%20strictly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20when%20our%20first%20CSA%20(Community%20Supported%20Agriculture)%20box%20came%20in%20last%20week,%20I%20was%20cautiously%20excited.%20I%20like%20to%20think%20of%20myself%20as%20an%20adventurous%20cook,%20but%20I%20also%20like%20to%20come%20home%20from%20work%20with%20an%20idea%20in%20mind%20of%20what%20I%E2%80%99m%20cooking%20for%20that%20night,%20and%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20week%20as%20well.%20We%20had%20a%20general%20idea%20of%20what%20was%20gonna%20be%20in%20the%20box,%20but%20just%20like%20a%20box%20of%20chocolates,%20you%20never%20really%20know%20what%20you%E2%80%99re%20gonna%20get.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAt%20the%20same%20time,%20I%20was%20looking%20forward%20to%20%E2%80%98wingin%E2%80%99%20it%E2%80%99%20which,%20despite%20my%20culinary%20training,%20I%20seldom%20do.%20Though%20I%20certainly%20don%E2%80%99t%20adhere%20to%20the%20%E2%80%98anyone%20can%20follow%20a%20recipe%E2%80%99%20mantra%20(believe%20me,%20it%E2%80%99s%20not%20true),%20I%20own%20so%20many%20cookbooks%20and%20read%20so%20many%20food%20magazines%20that%20I%20find%20myself%20feeling%20the%20need%20to%20use%20those%20recipes,%20at%20least%20as%20a%20guide.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnpacking%20the%20CSA%20box%20reminded%20me%20of%20a%20story%20my%20pops%20told%20me%20the%20other%20day,%20one%20of%20many.%20He%20boasted%20proudly%20about%20his%20parents%20and%20the%20first%20few%20years%20of%20his%20life%20in%20the%20country,%20growing%20up%20on%20a%20farm%20and%20in%20absence%20of%20a%20phone,%20let%20alone%20electricity.%20Breakfast,%20lunch,%20and%20dinner%20consisted%20of%20what%20was%20available%20to%20them%20that%20day;%20bluntly%20%E2%80%93%20there%20was%20no%20grocery-shopping,%20no%20microwaving,%20and%20no%20Thomas%20Keller,%20Rick%20Bayless,%20or%20even%20Food%20Network%20to%20be%20inspired%20by.%20At%20first%20you%20think%20about%20how%20unfortunate%20they%20were%20to%20have%20never%20tasted%20a%20juicy%20Florida%20orange,%20a%20smooth%20and%20buttery%20California%20avocado,%20and%20for%20Pete%E2%80%99s%20sake,%20a%20bowl%20of%20those%20sweet%20Michigan%20cherries.%20But%20then,%20then,%20you%20realize%20how%20simple,%20how%20coveted,%20and%20how%20organic%20it%20all%20was.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ll%20tell%20you%20one%20thing:%20it%20makes%20that%20CSA%20box%20seem%20like%20one%20step%20in%20the%20right%20direction.%20Which,%20ironically,%20is%20backwards.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20while%20I%20won%E2%80%99t%20pretend%20to%20be%20hardcore%20when%20it%20comes%20to%20eating%20locally,%20I%20certainly%20appreciate%20those%20who%20do%20and%20with%20every%20season%20that%20passes%20and%20every%20dish%20I%20order,%20I%20am%20more%20conscious%20of%20it.%20My%20dad%E2%80%99s%20story%20the%20other%20day%20reminded%20me%20of%20how%20fortunate%20we%20are,%20but%20how%20forgetful%20we%20are%20as%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20box%20and%20the%20meal%20that%20followed%20hit%20home%20in%20more%20ways%20than%20one.%20To%20top%20it%20all%20off,%20I%20reminded%20myself%20that%20not%20only%20can%20I%20cook,%20but%20I%E2%80%99m%20also%20not%20a%20bad%20chef%20either.%20So%20with%20that,%20here%E2%80%99s%20to%20CSA%20season,%20%E2%80%98the%20old%20days%E2%80%99,%20and%20cooking%20the%20way%20Rod%20Stewart%20might%20suggest:%20footloose%20and%20fancy-free.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20the%20Chicago%20area%20and%20wanna%20research%20CSAs?%20Start%20here.%20Summer%20CSAs%20are%20likely%20full%20or%20past%20joining%20times,%20but%20some%20have%20Fall%20sign-ups.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELinguini%20with%20Sausage,%20Kale,%20and%20%E2%80%98Shrooms%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInspired%20by%20the%20CSA%20box;%20serves%204%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eingredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Einstructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecook%20pasta%20in%20a%20large%20pot%20according%20to%20package%20directions%20and%20drain.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Emeanwhile,%20heat%20large%20saucepan%20to%20med-hi%20and%20cook%20sausage%20for%20about%205-7%20minutes,%20flipping%20to%20cook%20evenly.%20set%20aside%20on%20paper%20towel-lined%20plate.%20in%20same%20saucepan,%20which%20will%20have%20a%20little%20oil%20from%20sausages,%20saute%20scapes%20with%20anchovy%20paste%20for%201-2%20minutes.%20add%20mushrooms%20and%20most%20of%20the%20lemon%20juice%20and%20cook%20for%2
