%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20have%20our%20own%20ice%20cream%20maker%20but%20we%20haven't%20used%20it%20in%20years....still%20works%20great!%20%20We%20decided%20to%20make%20French%20vanilla,%20if%20you%20are%20gonna%20make%20vanilla....you%20might%20as%20well%20go%20all%20the%20way%20and%20make%20the%20richest%20vanilla%20ice%20cream%20there%20is.%20%20French%20vanilla%20has%20egg%20yolks%20and%20a%20custard%20like%20base%20rather%20than%20just%20cream%20and%20milk.%20%20This%20of%20course%20makes%20it%20richer%20and%20better%20tasting%20(yes...and%20full%20of%20fat...but%20totally%20worth%20it).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20was%20the%20perfect%20recipe%20to%20use%20up%20some%20of%20my%20fresh%20vanilla%20beans%20from%20Costco.%20%20Popped%20that%20puppy%20right%20into%20my%20half%20and%20half%20mixture!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUse%20any%20ice%20cream%20maker%20you%20have%20on%20hand.%20%20If%20you%20don't%20have%20one....well,%20that%20is%20just%20super%20sad.%20%20You%20really%20need%20to%20get%20one,%20it%20is%20tons%20of%20%20fun%20for%20the%20family!%20%20(unless%20you%20have%20teenagers....they%20disappear%20after%20it%20goes%20in%20the%20maker%20and%20tell%20you%20to%20let%20them%20know%20when%20it's%20done).%20%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20they%20are...proof%20that%20the%20boys%20do%20exist.%20%20Max%20is%20working%20on%20the%20ice%20cream%20base%20while%20Zack%20is%20making%20chocolate%20chip%20cookies.%20%20They%20disappeared%20soon%20after%20this%20picture%20was%20taken.%20%20I'm%20not%20sure%20what%20they%20do%20in%20their%20rooms%20for%20all%20of%20those%20hours%20but%20I'm%20pretty%20sure%20it%20has%20something%20to%20do%20with%20Xbox%20or%20Playstation.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EInstructions:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20half-and-half,%20milk,%20and%202%20cups%20sugar%20in%20a%20saucepan%20over%20low%20heat,%20adding%20vanilla%20seeds%20and%20the%20bean%20to%20the%20mixture.%20Turn%20off%20heat%20when%20mixture%20is%20totally%20heated.%20%20(Make%20sure%20to%20discard%20the%20bean%20before%20moving%20to%20the%20next%20step.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBeat%20egg%20yolks%20by%20hand%20until%20pale%20yellow%20and%20slightly%20thick.%20Temper%20the%20egg%20yolks%20by%20slowly%20drizzling%20into%20the%201%201/2%20cups%20of%20hot%20half-and-half%20mixture,%20whisking%20constantly.%20After%20that,%20pour%20the%20egg%20yolk/half-and-half%20mixture%20into%20the%20pan%20containing%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20half-and-half%20mixture.%20Cook%20over%20medium-low%20heat%20until%20mixture%20thickens.%20Drain%20custard%20using%20a%20fine%20mesh%20strainer,%20then%20pour%20into%20a%20bowl%20with%20the%20heavy%20cream.%20Stir%20to%20combine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChill%20mixture%20completely,%20then%20freeze%20in%20an%20ice%20cream%20maker%20following%20the%20maker's%20instructions.%20Place%20container%20in%20freezer%20to%20harden%20for%20at%20least%20four%20hours.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnjoy!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
