%20The%20quest:%20strawberries-picking%20at%20Apple%20Jack%20Orchards.%20Now,%20I've%20never%20been%20berry-picking%20before,%20but%20I%20expected%20fun%20to%20be%20had.%20Wide%20open%20spaces,%20fresh%20air,%20sweet%20fruit,and%20the%20satisfaction%20of%20comes%20with%20an%20awareness%20of%20the%20natural%20environment.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENot%20entirely%20the%20case.%20I%20would%20suggest%20embarking%20on%20this%20endeavor%20in%20the%20early%20morning%20or%20late%20afternoon.%20Not%20at%20midday%20when%20the%20sun%20is%20at%20its%20hottest.%20I%20always%20get%20asked,%20%22But%20you%20are%20from%20the%20Caribbean,%20don't%20you%20like%20being%20in%20the%20sun?%20%22%20Sure%20I%20do%20but%20physical%20activity%20in%20ninety%20degree%20heat%20can%20make%20even%20the%20most%20avid%20of%20sun%20worshippers%20a%20bit%20miserable.%20And,%20after%20all%20of%20that,%20a%20bee%20got%20caught%20in%20my%20hair%20and%20as%20I%20tried%20to%20free%20it,%20the%20little%20punk%20-%20I%20mean%20the%20cute,%20fuzzy,%20sweet-honey-producing%20bee%20-%20stung%20me!%20(Another%20suggestion,%20if%20you%20have%20long%20hair,%20tie%20in%20a%20pony%20tail%20or%20braid%20before%20strawberry%20picking.)%20Luckily,%20I'm%20not%20allergic%20to%20bee%20stings%20but%20never%20again%20will%20I%20complain%20about%20strawberry's%20high%20price.%20Locally%20grown%20strawberries%20are%20worth%20every%20cent.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20in%20all,%20the%20day%20wasn't%20a%20total%20disappointment%20.%20Even%20though%20it%20was%20the%20end%20of%20the%20season%20and%20most%20of%20the%20fruit%20were%20already%20gone%20by%20the%20time%20we%20got%20there,%20we%20(and%20by%20we,%20I%20mean%20mostly%20my%20husband)%20still%20managed%20to%20gather%20about%20three%20pounds.%20More%20than%20enough%20for%20this%20scrumptious%20tart.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20recipe%20is%20an%20adaptation%20of%20one%20I%20saved%20from%20a%202009%20issue%20of%20Gourmet%20magazine;%20changing%20only%20a%20couple%20things.%20I%20added%20whole%20wheat%20pastry%20flour%20and%20cinnamon%20to%20the%20crust,%20and%20I%20tossed%20the%20berries%20with%20fresh%20mint%20for%20the%20filing,%20just%20to%20add%20another%20dimension%20of%20flavor%20and%20freshness.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFreshly%20picked,%20from%20the%20farmers%20market,%20or%20store%20bought,%20do%20try%20and%20get%20some%20local%20strawberries%20before%20the%20season%20is%20completely%20over.%20And%20if%20you%20do%20decide%20to%20drive%20to%20Apple%20Jack's%20Orchard,%20try%20their%20strawberry%20tart.%20Theirs%20is%20freshly%20made,%20and%20very%20good%20too!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFresh%20Strawberry%20Tart%20with%20Port%20Glaze%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(Adapted%20from%20Gourmet)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%208%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Combine%20pastry%20and%20all%20purpose%20flours,%20salt,%20and%20butter%20in%20a%20bowl%20using%20your%20fingers,%20pastry%20blender,%20or%20food%20processor%20until%20mixture%20resembles%20coarse%20meal%20with%20some%20lumpy%20pea-sized%20butter%20bits.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Beat%20together%20yolk,%20vanilla,%20lemon%20zest,%20and%20water,%20then%20drizzle%20over%20flour%20mixture%20and%20stir%20until%20mixture%20comes%20together.%20Gently%20knead%20dough%20on%20a%20lightly%20floured%20surface%20until%20a%20dough%20forms.%20Press%20into%20a%205-inch%20disk.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Place%20dough%20disk%20in%20center%20of%20tart%20pan%20and%20cover%20with%20plastic%20wrap.%20Using%20your%20fingers%20or%20the%20bottom%20of%20a%20measuring%20cup,%20spread%20the%20dough%20to%20evenly%20cover%20the%20bottom%20and%20sides%20of%20pan.%20Prick%20bottom%20of%20shell%20with%20a%20fork%20and%20freeze%20until%20firm,%20about%2010%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Pre-heat%20to%20375%20degrees%20F,%20with%20rack%20in%20the%20middle.%20Line%20tart%20shell%20with%20foil%20and%20pie%20weights%20and%20bake%20until%20sides%20are%20pale%20golden%20about,%2020%20minutes.%20Remove%20foil%20and%20pie%20weights%20and%20continue%20to%20bake%20until%20deep%20golden%20all%20over,%20another%2015%20to%2020%20minutes.%20Cool%20in%20pan,%20about%2045%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETO%20MAKE%20PIE%20FILLING%20(while%20tart%20shell%20cools):%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Stir%20together%20strawberries%20and%20brown%20sugar%20in%20bowl%20and%20let%20stand%20about%2030%20minutes,%20stirring%20occasionally.%20Strain%20liquid%20into%20a%20saucepan,%20reserving%20berries.%20Add%20port%20to%20liquid%20in%20pan%20and%20boil%20until%20slightly%20thickened%20and%20reduced%20by%20half,%20about%2010%20to%2015%20minutes.%20Transfer%20to%20a%20small%20bowl%20to%20cool%20slightly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Tear%20the%20mint%20leaves%20into%20thin%20strip%20and%20toss%20in%20reserved%20berries.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20While%20port%20glaze%20is%20cooling,%20blend%20together%20mascarpone,%20cream%20cheese,%20confectioners%20sugar,%20lemon%20juice,%20zest,%20and%20vanilla%20until%20thoroughly%20incorporated.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20Assemble%20Tart:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpread%20mascarpone-cream%20cheese%20mixture%20evenly%20in%20cooled%20tart%20she
