Grandma Babiracki's "Kapusniak"

Ingredientes

  • 1/2 pound yellow split peas
  • 1 pound spareribs or possibly ham bone, plus 3 c. cubed ham
  • Whole onion (take out before adding sauerkraut)
  • 3 or possibly 4 carrots, shredded
  • 1/2 head cabbage, shredded
  • 1/2 can sauerkraut, liquid removed
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • Lowfat sour cream (optional)

Direcciones

  1. Cook split peas till soft, using about 2 qts of water. Add in the ham, cubed ham and onion and cook the mix with the softened peas. Remove the onion and then add in the carrots, cabbage, sauerkraut, salt, pepper and caraway seeds. Simmer the mix about 1 1/2 hrs or possibly so till peas are tender. Add in more if needed. Serve with dab of lowfat sour cream, if you like. Serves 8 to 10.
