,%20and%20I%20wouldn't%20do%20it.%20I%20hated%20the%20taste;%20it%20made%20me%20gag.%20My%20parents%20used%20to%20order%20chocolate%20milk%20for%20me%20to%20drink%20at%20lunch%20each%20day,%20and%20I%20just%20gave%20it%20to%20whatever%20kid%20had%20forgotten%20his%20or%20her%20lunch%20that%20day.%20I%20finally%20confessed%20after%20third%20grade%20I%20never%20drank%20it,%20and%20my%20parents%20kindly%20stopped%20ordering%20it%20for%20me.%20I%20always%20did%20-%20and%20still%20do%20-%20eat%20cereal%20totally%20dry.%20You%20get%20the%20picture.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20in%20a%20drastic%20shift%20from%20my%20sour%20feelings%20towards%20milk%20is%20Greg's%20adoration%20of%20ice%20cream.%20It's%20kind%20of%20funny,%20actually,%20because%20Greg%20is%20by%20far%20the%20healthiest%20eater%20I%20know.%20We%20just%20signed%20up%20for%20a%20CSA,%20and%20although%20it's%20no%20shock%20I'm%20all%20for%20it,%20Greg%20is%20really%20excited%20about%20it,%20too,%20and%20all%20of%20the%20things%20we%20can%20do%20with%20our%20weekly%20allotment%20of%20fruits%20and%20vegetables.%20Truth%20be%20told,%20we%20may%20need%20to%20buy%20a%20bigger%20share%20because%20Greg%20will%20likely%20polish%20off%20today's%20box%20in%20the%20next%20two%20days.%20So%20needless%20to%20say,%20it's%20always%20a%20surprise%20to%20people%20how%20much%20he%20adores%20ice%20cream.%20But%20Greg%20being%20healthy%20Greg,%20he%20always%20feels%20bad%20about%20it.%20Even%20though%20I%20certainly%20think%20he%20deserves%20a%20treat%20and%20is%20in%20tremendous%20shape,%20he%20feels%20bad%20about%20this%20particular%20indulgence%20of%20his.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHow%20do%20we%20reconcile%20these%20things?%20Raw%20almond%20milk!%20I%20was%20reading%20Ani%20Phyo's%20Ani's%20Raw%20Food%20Kitchen%20when%20I%20sort%20of%20saw%20her%20recipe%20for%20Vanilla%20Mylk%20but%20didn't%20really%20think%20about%20it.%20(Remember,%20my%20relationship%20with%20milk%20is%20long%20and%20torturous.)%20But%20then,%20I%20noticed%20her%20suggestion%20that%20her%20mylk%20can%20be%20run%20through%20an%20ice%20cream%20maker%20and%20turned%20into%20%22ice%20cream.%22%20She%20had%20my%20attention.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20my%20previous%20posts%20have%20indicated,%20I%20love%20using%20our%20ice%20cream%20maker,%20but%20there%20is%20a%20drawback:%20when%20making%20ice%20cream,%20the%20recipes%20I%20use%20have%20to%20boil%20the%20ingredients%20on%20the%20stove%20top,%20and%20then%20I%20have%20to%20wait%203%20or%204%20hours%20for%20the%20mixture%20to%20cool%20before%20I%20make%20ice%20cream.%20Since%20I%20have%20no%20patience%20for%20these%20things%20when%20my%20sweet%20tooth%20is%20calling,%20I%20tend%20not%20to%20make%20it%20much.%20With%20raw%20ice%20cream,%20though,%20you%20can%20go%20straight%20from%20blender%20to%20ice%20cream%20maker,%20no%20waiting.%20Hooray!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20making%20mylk%20for%20the%20first%20time,%20I%20also%20realized%20that%20the%20recipe%20for%20vanilla%20mylk%20is%20a%20perfect%20base%20for%20making%20other%20flavors%20of%20ice%20cream.%20Want%20mint%20chocolate%20chip?%20Add%20a%20small%20amount%20of%20peppermint%20extract%20to%20the%20blender%20and%20dump%20in%20chocolate%20chips%20during%20the%20last%205%20minutes%20of%20churning%20in%20the%20ice%20cream%20maker.%20Have%20a%20ton%20of%20seasonal%20fruit?%20Blend%20it%20directly%20into%20the%20mylk%20or%20cut%20it%20into%20chunks%20and%20add%20it%20towards%20the%20end%20of%20the%20churning%20-%20or%20both!%20Basically,%20this%20can't%20go%20wrong.%20And,%20bonus%20-%20the%20mylk%20tastes%20good%20as%20milk%20and%20can%20live%20in%20the%20fridge%20for%20a%20few%20days.%20Woo%20hoo!%20Maybe%20there%20is%20hope%20for%20me!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20for%20Greg,%20he%20loves%20the%20raw%20ice%20cream%20experiments.%20First,%20it's%20vegan,%20so%20no%20guilt.%20Second,%20he's%20even%20more%20impatient%20than%20me%20when%20it%20comes%20to%20ice%20cream,%20so%20there's%20only%20a%20half%20hour%20wait%20for%20his%20treat%20to%20go%20from%20blender%20to%20maker%20to%20spoon.%20Third,%20this%20stuff%20is%20definitely%20nutritionally%20better%20than%20what%20you%20would%20get%20at%20the%20store.%20The%20only%20%22sugar%22?%20Dates.%20The%20only%20fat?%20Almonds,%20and%20there's%20protein,%20too.%20No%20cholesterol.%20And%20a%20bonus:%20cheap%20to%20make!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAni%20also%20has%20a%20recipe%20for%20chocolate%20mylk,%20which%20would%20probably%20make%20another%20great%20ice%20cream%20base.%20Once%20I%20make%20that,%20I'll%20report%20back%20with%20a%20recipe%20update.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1)%20To%20make%20mylk,%20combine%20first%20five%20ingredients%20until%20smooth%20in%20a%20blender.%20There%20will%20be%20some%20almond%20bits%20floating%20around%20at%20the%20end;%20you%20can%20either%20strain%20them%20out%20or%20leave%20them%20in,%20it%20doesn't%20matter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2)%20For%20ice%20cream:%20before%20combining%20ice%20cream%20ingredients,%20add%20any%20fruit%20or%20flavored%20extracts%20you'd%20like%20to%20try,%20and%20then%20blend.%2
