,%20serrano%20peppers%20and%20other%20hot%20chili%20peppers%20and%20spices%20such%20as%20garlic%20paste,%20coriander,%20red%20chili%20powder,%20caraway%20as%20well%20as%20some%20vegetable%20or%20olive%20oil.%20I%20have%20never%20been%20to%20North%20Africa,%20but%20I%20confess%20I%20love%20harissa!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20usually%20buy%20the%20Rose%20Harissa%20Paste%20by%20Belazu.%20It%20is%20a%20heady%20combination%20of%20rose%20petals%20and%20over%20forty%20spices,%20which%20give%20this%20paste%20a%20very%20unique%20aroma%20and%20complex,%20yet%20unmistakably%20spicy,%20taste.%20It%20has%20a%20hot%20kick%20to%20it%20but%20the%20rose%20petals%20in%20the%20sauce%20provide%20a%20unique%20balance%20to%20the%20chilli%20heat.%20I%20like%20a%20bit%20of%20spice,%20but%20not%20a%20lot,%20so%20the%20Rose%20Harissa%20Paste%20is%20perfect%20for%20me.%20OF%20course%20you%20can%20adjust%20the%20heat%20by%20adding%20more%20or%20less,%20according%20to%20your%20own%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20often%20toss%20hunks%20of%20potatoes%20with%20a%20bit%20of%20oil%20and%20harissa%20paste%20and%20roast%20them%20in%20the%20oven%20until%20they%20are%20all%20crisp%20and%20golden,%20with%20a%20bit%20of%20delicious%20heat%20and%20spice.%20I%20also%20add%20some%20to%20my%20chunky%20oven%20wedges%20that%20I%20like%20to%20make%20from%20time%20to%20time,%20oh%20so%20good%20with%20a%20sour%20cream%20dip.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EToday%20I%20chose%20to%20pan%20fry%20some%20of%20the%20salad%20potatoes%20we%20grew%20last%20summer,%20the%20pink%20fir%20ones,%20in%20a%20mixture%20of%20olive%20oil,%20onions,%20garlic,%20spices%20and%20some%20rose%20harissa%20paste.%20I%20think%20they%20turned%20really%20lovely.%20(We've%20had%20the%20potatoes%20stored%20in%20a%20covered%20bin%20filled%20with%20sand%20just%20outside%20our%20back%20door%20and%20they%20have%20kept%20beautifully.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENicely%20spiced%20with%20crunchy%20bits%20.%20.%20.%20beautifully%20coloured%20and%20just%20spicy%20enough%20without%20going%20over%20the%20top.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20enjoyed%20these%20tonight%20with%20some%20grilled%20chicken%20breasts%20and%20vegetables.%20They%20were%20scrumdiddlyumptious!%20I%20have%20always%20loved%20pan%20fries,%20but%20these%20take%20pan%20fries%20to%20a%20whole%20new%20level!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*Harissa%20Potatoes*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpicy%20and%20delicious%20with%20little%20cripsy%20bits.%20These%20go%20very%20well%20with%20roasted%20meats,%20poultry%20or%20grilled%20fish.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20the%20oil%20in%20a%20large%20skillet.%20Add%20the%20onion%20and%20cook,%20stirring%20for%20about%201%20minute.%20Add%20the%20potatoes.%20Cook%20for%202%20to%203%20minutes%20longer,%20stirring%20occasionally.%20Add%20the%20garlic,%20harissa,%20cumin%20and%20sea%20salt.%20Mix%20together%20well.%20Add%20enough%20boiling%20water%20to%20barely%20come%20halfway%20up%20the%20potatoes.%20Cover%20with%20a%20lid%20and%20simmer%20for%20about%2020%20minutes,%20gently.%20Remove%20the%20lid%20and%20cook%20for%20about%205%20to%2010%20minutes%20longer,%20until%20cooked%20through,%20tender,%20beginning%20to%20turn%20golden%20and%20the%20water%20has%20all%20been%20absorbed.%20Stir%20in%20the%20lemon%20juice%20and%20coriander%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20find%20recipes%20to%20make%20your%20own%20Rose%20Harissa%20here,%20and%20regular%20Harissa,%20here.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
