Woop woop! It's 2017! Let's start this year off with a post on one of my favourite restaurants from 2016 - Harley House. You may remember that once upon a time, Harley House was Mexican-Chinese fusion restaurant La Chinesca (I visited once on an invite), and since then they've changed the name and specialised the menu on Peruvian cuisine, with a strong focus on piscos (woohoo!) and grilled meats (also woohoo!)

%209663-8333%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWebsite%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWoop%20woop!%20It's%202017!%20Let's%20start%20this%20year%20off%20with%20a%20post%20on%20one%20of%20my%20favourite%20restaurants%20from%202016%20-%20Harley%20House.%20You%20may%20remember%20that%20once%20upon%20a%20time,%20Harley%20House%20was%20Mexican-Chinese%20fusion%20restaurant%20La%20Chinesca%20(I%20visited%20once%20on%20an%20invite),%20and%20since%20then%20they've%20changed%20the%20name%20and%20specialised%20the%20menu%20on%20Peruvian%20cuisine,%20with%20a%20strong%20focus%20on%20piscos%20(woohoo!)%20and%20grilled%20meats%20(also%20woohoo!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHarley%20House%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESandra%20visited%20HH%20once%20a%20few%20months%20back%20for%20a%20work%20thing,%20and%20came%20back%20raving%20about%20the%20churrasco%20beef,%20which%20she%20insisted%20I%20just%20Had%20To%20Try.%20(Spoiler%20alert:%20super%20delicious).%20We've%20since%20visited%20a%20bunch%20of%20times,%20and%20it's%20become%20one%20of%20our%20favourite%20restaurants%20-%20perfect%20for%20a%20quick%20dinner%20in%20the%20city%20if%20we're%20rushing%20off%20to%20a%20show%20(or%20just%20want%20to%20get%20home%20early,%20'cause%20we%20be%20grandmas%20now),%20and%20also%20with%20a%20pretty%20sweet%20Happy%20Hour%20(4:30%20-%206:30pm)%20with%20$12%20pisco%20sours.%20They've%20got%20an%20extensive%20cocktail%20list,%20but%20I%20tend%20to%20stick%20to%20the%20pisco,%20because%20delicious.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPisco%20Sours%20-%20Mango%20&%20Berry%20-%20$19%20($12%20during%20happy%20hour!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpeaking%20of%20delicious%20sour%20things,%20I've%20tried%20a%20couple%20of%20their%20ceviches%20and%20really%20enjoyed%20them.%20Hot%20tip:%20the%20ceviche%20mixto%20de%20mercado%20is%20a%20very%20generous%20serving!%20Good%20for%20sharing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECeviche%20Mixto%20de%20Mercado%20-%20Mixed%20local%20white%20fish,%20prawns,%20squid,%20octopus,%20tiger's%20milk%20-%20$28%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20yellowfin%20tuna%20ceviche%20special%20we%20tried%20on%20another%20visit%20was%20much%20smaller%20(I%20imagine%20because%20yellowfin%20tuna%20is%20more%20expensive%20than%20the%20mixed%20seafood%20in%20the%20other%20ceviche),%20but%20was%20still%20very%20good.%20From%20memory%20it%20came%20with%20a%20mango%20sauce,%20the%20sharpness%20of%20which%20contrasted%20well%20against%20the%20rich,%20oily%20tuna.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETiradito%20of%20the%20day%20-%20yellowfin%20tuna%20ceviche%20-%20$24%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20rompebocas%20(small%20plates)%20section%20of%20the%20menu%20has%20a%20lot%20of%20great%20drinking%20food%20-%20the%20crispy%20fried%20chicken%20wings%20and%20empanadas%20are%20both%20well%20worth%20ordering.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlitas%20de%20Pollo%20-%20Deep%20fried%20chicken%20wings,%20masterstock,%20ranchero%20tomato%20sauce%20-%20$18%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEmpanadas%20-%20corn%20&%20queso%20serrano%20-%20$9%20each%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChipa%20with%20Chia%20Seeds%20-%20tapioca%20flour%20cheese%20bread,%20bocconcini%20cheese%20-%20$12%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20favourite,%20though,%20is%20the%20chipa%20with%20chia%20seeds,%20which%20we%20order%20every%20time.%20Similar%20to%20my%20beloved%20p%C3%A3o%20de%20queijo,%20these%20are%20chewy%20little%20cheesy%20breads%20made%20of%20tapioca%20flour.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChipa%20with%20Chia%20Seeds%20-%20Tapioca%20flour%20cheese%20bread,%20Bocconcini%20cheese%20-%20$12%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet's%20take%20a%20look%20at%20the%20meat!%20The%20spatchcock%20a%20la%20brasa%20(i.e.%20Peruvian%20rotisserie%20chicken,%20made%20with%20spatchcock)%20was%20smoky,%20juicy%20and%20tender.%20And%20it%20came%20with%20bonus%20potatoes%20-%20win%20win.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpatchcock%20a%20la%20Brasa%20-%20Marinated%20in%20beer,%20garlic,%20ginger,%20spices%20-%20$26%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20spatchcock%20was%20quite%20good,%20but%20for%20my%20money,%20the%20best%20bet%20is%20the%20beef.%20Check%20out%20this%20slow-cooked%20asado!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAsado%20con%20Hueso%20-%2072%20hour%20slow%20cooked%20beef%20short%20rib,%20Huacatay%20salsa%20-%20$40%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20asado%20con%20hueso%20(i.e.%20%22with%20bone%22)%20had%20a%20great%20crust%20(or%20bark)%20on%20the%20outside,%20and%20was%20incredibly%20tender,%20falling%20apart%20at%20the%20prod%20of%20a%20fork.Soooo%20tender%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20churrasco%20beef%20is%20different%20but%20equally%20delicious%20-%20rather%20than%20being%20slow%20cooked,%20this%20one%20is%20a%20grilled%20sirloin%20steak,%20cooked%20medium%20rare%20and%20sliced%20into%20thick%20slabs.%20I've%20had%20this%20one%20a%20few%20times%20and%20it's%20always%20great%20-%20perfectly%20cooked,%20well%20seasoned%20and%20with%20a%20great%20char.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChurrasco%20%E2%80%93%20300G%20Grass%20fed%20sirloin,%20Huacatay%20salsa%20-%20$30%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20vegetable%20dishes%20are%20good,%20usually%20comprising%20traditional%20Peruvian%20ingredients%20presented%20in%20a%20contemporary%20way.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnsalada%20Vegetariano%20-%20grilled%20corn%20w/%20cauliflower%20pur%C3%A9e,%20grilled%20watermelon,%20heart%20of%20palm,%20sweet%20potato,%20coriander,%20cancha,%20yuca%20&%20jalape%C3%B1o%20-%20$17%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWarm%20Beetroot%20Salad%20-%20Beetroot%20&%20raisin%20emulsion,%20baby%20beet,%20purple%20carrot,%20watermelon%20radish,%20red%20vein%20sorrel%20-%20$14%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPapas%20Fritas%20-%20Hand%20cut%20chips,%20aj%C3%AD%20amarillo%20mayonnaise,%20ranchera%20sauce%20-%20$10%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20don't%20usually%20order%20dessert,%20but%20when%20we%20brought%20our%20friends%20An%20and%20Adri%20here%20for%20a%20birthday%20gift,%20we%20couldn't%20not%20order%20a%20few%20sweet%20things!%20My%20favourite%20were%20the%20picarones%20-%20sweet%20potato%20and%20pumpkin%20donuts,%20in%20a%20sweet%20plum%20syrup.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPicarones%20-%20Sweet%20potato%20&%20pumpkin%20Peruvian%20doughnuts,%20plum%20syrup%20-%20$14%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlfajor%20de%20Chocolate%20-%20Chocolate%20shells,%20shortbread,%20dulce%20de%20leche%20-%20$12%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20alfajor%20de%20chocolate%20didn't%20look%20like%20any%20other%20alfajor%20I'd%20ever%20tried%20before%20(sah%20fancy!),%20but%20the%20familiar%20combination%20of%20shortbread%20crumbs%20and%20sweet,%20sweet%20dulce%20de%20leche%20was%20very%20tasty.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESuspiro%20Limeno%20-%20Dulche%20de%20leche,%20seasonal%20fruits,%20meringue%20-%20$14%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20suspiro%20limeno%20was,%20again,%20a%20fancy%20restaurant%20version%20of%20a%20traditional%20South%20American%20dessert.%20(Wikipedia%20has%20informed%20me%20that%20the%20suspiro%20de%20lime%C3%B1a%20is%20usually%20served%20like%20a%20little%20trifle%20or%20pudding,%20with%20a%20thick%20milk%20custard%20on%20the%20bottom,%20and%20meringue%20on%20top).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGreat%20cocktails,%20great%20meat,%20great%20atmosphere.%20Great%20restaurant!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
