.%20My%20love%20for%20food%20and%20cooking%20for%20friends%20and%20family%20certainly%20started%20in%20the%20family%20kitchen%20and%20my%20hope%20is%20to%20pass%20that%20on%20to%20my%20boys.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20is%20something%20special%20about%20being%20in%20the%20kitchen%20with%20a%20grandmother.%20Sure,%20sometimes%20its%20stressful,%20like%20Grandma%20not%20being%20happy%20that%20I%20didn't%20have%20the%20brand%20of%20fruit%20pectin%20that%20she%20buys...%20and%20yes%20she%20let%20me%20know%20of%20her%20concern%20numerous%20times%20before%20we%20even%20got%20started.%20Being%20as%20I%20refused%20to%20go%20to%20the%20store%20to%20get%20the%20other%20brand%20we%20got%20on%20with%20our%20jam%20making%20and%20I%20will%20say%20that%20jam%20came%20out%20delicious!!!%20I%20ignored%20the%20directions%20on%20the%20jar%20of%20fruit%20pectin%20and%20just%20followed%20along%20with%20whatever%20Grandma%20said,%20because%20like%20she%20said,%20shes'%20never%20thrown%20away%20anything%20shes'%20jarred.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*little%20disclaimer:%20as%20far%20as%20canning%20safety%20goes,%20the%20method%20we%20used%20here%20isn't%20lets%20say%20%22per%20code%22%20when%20it%20comes%20to%20jarring%20but%20its%20worked%20for%20Grandma%20for%20mannnyyyy%20years%20so%20i'm%20going%20with%20it.%20If%20you%20are%20at%20all%20concerned,%20check%20out%20the%20Ball%20Mason%20Jar%20site%20for%20their%20method*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFirst%20you%20have%20to%20prepare%20and%20sterilize%20the%20mason%20jars.%20Place%20the%20jars%20and%20lids%20into%20a%20large%20pot%20of%20water,%20bring%20to%20a%20slow%20boil%20and%20keep%20them%20in%20there%20for%20about%2010%20minutes.%20Shut%20the%20heat%20but%20leave%20the%20jars%20in%20the%20pot%20of%20water.%20(We%20weren't%20sure%20how%20many%20jars%20we'd%20need%20so%20we%20sterilized%20too%20many)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWash%20the%20remove%20the%20greens%20from%20the%20strawberries%20and%20cut%20into%20quarters.%20In%20small%20batches%20give%20the%20berries%20a%20slight%20puree%20in%20a%20blender%20or%20food%20processor,%20meaning%20leave%20some%20small%20chunks%20in%20there.%20Place%20in%20a%20bowl%20as%20you%20continue.%20You%20want%20to%20end%20with%204%20cups%20of%20the%20prepared%20strawberry-rough%20puree.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%204%20cups%20of%20strawberry%20puree,%20the%20sugar%20and%20the%20lemon%20to%20a%20large%20pot.%20Bring%20to%20a%20rolling%20boil,%20stirring%20very%20frequently.%20Begin%20to%20skim%20off%20some%20of%20the%20foam%20that%20forms%20on%20the%20top.%20Allow%20to%20boil%20hard%20for%20about%2010%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShut%20the%20heat%20and%20stir%20in%20the%20pectin%20until%20completely%20dissolved,%20being%20sure%20to%20break%20up%20any%20chunks%20of%20pectin%20that%20may%20form.%20Heat%20back%20on,%20bring%20it%20back%20up%20to%20a%20rolling%20boil%20for%20about%205%20minutes,%20stirring%20very%20frequently.%20Shut%20heat%20so%20you%20%20can%20begin%20jarring%20immediately....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20using%20tongs,%20very%20carefully%20remove%20one%20jar%20and%20the%20lid%20parts%20from%20the%20hot%20pot%20of%20water.%20Immediately%20fill%20the%20jars,%20leaving%20just%20a%201/2%22%20space%20at%20the%20top,%20place%20the%20lid%20on%20and%20tighten%20as%20much%20as%20you%20can.%20Place%20the%20jar%20upside%20down%20on%20a%20kitchen%20towel.%20Repeat%20this%20step%20until%20all%20the%20jam%20is%20jarred.%20If%20you%20have%20a%20little%20extra%20place%20it%20into%20a%20jar%20the%20same%20way%20and%20start%20using%20it%20the%20next%20day.%20The%20reason%20for%20taking%20the%20jars%20out%20one%20at%20a%20time%20is%20to%20ensure%20everything%20is%20hot%20hot%20hot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20the%20jam%20and%20jars%20have%20cooled%20completely%20you%20can%20flip%20them%20over.%20If%20the%20disk%20part%20of%20the%20lid%20is%20firmly%20down,%20meaning%20if%20you%20push%20on%20it%20there%20is%20no%20give,%20then%20they%20are%20sealed%20properly.%20These%20can%20then%20be%20stored%20in%20a%20cool%20dark%20place%20for,%20according%20to%20grandma,%20several%20years.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHAPPY%20EATS!!!!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
