,%20but%20some%20flavors%20from%20those%20rambling%20dinners%20stay%20with%20me.%20One%20that%20comes%20to%20mind%20(and%20one%20I'm%20going%20to%20try%20very%20soon)%20is%20a%20particular%20kind%20of%20ice%20cream%20that%20was%20made%20by%20one%20of%20the%20parishoners%20at%20my%20grandparents'%20church%20when%20I%20was%20little.%20The%20texture%20was%20airy,%20but%20a%20little%20icy.%20Not%20so%20rich%20that%20you%20couldn't%20eat%20three%20bowls,%20but%20so%20tasty%20that%20you%20couldn't%20not%20eat%20three%20bowls.%20Preferred%20flavors%20at%20those%20socials%20were%20vanilla%20(naturally),%20strawberry%20(always%20made%20from%20hand-picked%20strawberries,%20most%20likely),%20and%20butter%20pecan%20(heavy%20on%20the%20butter).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIce%20cream%20is%20a%20habit%20that%20seems%20to%20follow%20me%20around%20from%20place%20to%20place.%20During%20my%20three%20happy%20years%20in%20Northampton,%20trips%20to%20Herrel's%20or%20Bart's%20(incidentally,%20Bart's%20was%20the%20scene%20of%20my%20most%20spectacular%20-%20and%20hilarious%20-%20lack%20of%20inhibitions%20ever.%20It%20resulted%20in%20such%20a%20shock%20that%20my%20dearest%20friend%20was%20accidentally%20punched%20in%20the%20face%20by%20another%20of%20our%20friends.%20I'll%20tell%20you%20that%20story%20someday.)%20were%20nearly%20daily%20occurrences%20(featured%20flavors:%20oreo%20mint,%20Caramel%20Heath%20Bar).%20On%20the%20days%20we%20didn't%20go%20there,%20we%20went%20to%20Davis%20(and%20later%20the%20Campus%20Center)%20for%20mudslides%20(mint%20chip%20ice%20cream%20-%20some%20chose%20coffee,%20oreos,%20chocolate%20syrup,%20blender).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20spent%20a%20year%20in%20Hamburg,%20where%20they%20are%20rumored%20to%20eat%20more%20ice%20cream%20per%20capita%20than%20anywhere%20in%20the%20world.%20Needless%20to%20say,%20I%20ate%20a%20lot%20of%20ice%20cream%20there%20(Generally%20I%20ate%20lemon%20or%20strawberry,%20as%20the%20ice%20cream%20more%20nearly%20resembled%20gelato%20and%20those%20are%20the%20superior%20gelato%20flavors.%20Late%20in%20the%20year,%20however,%20I%20discovered%20Eiszeit,%20where%20I%20stuck%20to%20anything%20with%20Caramel%20in%20the%20name.%20Or%20anything%20I%20couldn't%20identify.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20now%20I'm%20in%20Boston,%20which%20as%20it%20does%20in%20so%20many%20things,%20resembles%20Hamburg%20in%20the%20natives'%20feelings%20about%20ice%20cream.%20Now%20it's%20J.P.%20Licks%20(Cake%20Batter%20Oreo)%20or%20Christina's%20(Chai%20or%20Khulfi)%20or%20Toscanini's%20(Bourbon%20or%20Burnt%20Caramel).%20When%20I%20was%20a%20kid%20it%20was%20Lic's%20all%20the%20time%20(grape%20sherbert,%20please,%20or%20caramel%20praline).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20see,%20I%20like%20ice%20cream.%20I'm%20not%20always%20in%20the%20mood%20for%20it,%20but%20when%20I%20am,%20absolutely%20nothing%20else%20will%20satisfy.I've%20got%20a%20whole%20stack%20of%20those%20old%20Ice%20Cream%20Social%20recipes%20that%20I%20want%20to%20try,%20but%20a%20few%20weeks%20ago,%20I%20found%20myself%20in%20possession%20of%20a%20craving%20and%20a%20pile%20of%20clementines%20on%20the%20brink%20and%20I%20decided%20to%20try%20something%20new.%20The%20result?%20Delicious,%20creamy,%20light,%20but%20intensely%20flavored%20Clementine-Cinnamon%20Gelato.%20(By%20the%20way,%20I'm%20convinced%20that%20orange-cinnamon%20is%20the%20next%20Great%20Flavor%20Combination.)%20It's%20like%20being%20smacked%20in%20the%20face%20by%20a%20bag%20of%20clementines,%20but%20liking%20it%20and%20asking%20for%20more.%20It's%20like%20drowning%20in%20a%20sea%20of%20clementine%20and%20preferring%20the%20juice%20to%20air.%20It's%20an%20avalanche%20of%20clementines%20and,%20rather%20than%20run%20for%20cover,%20you%20stand%20there%20and%20wait%20to%20be%20bowled%20over.%20It's%20not%20subtle,%20but%20why%20should%20it%20be?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20suggest%20trying%20this%20while%20you%20can%20still%20get%20your%20mitts%20on%20some%20good%20citrus.%20You%20might%20come%20out%20the%20other%20side%20slightly%20battered%20and%20orange-stained,%20but%20you'll%20thank%20me.%20I%20promise.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EClementine-Cinnamon%20Gelato%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E~8%20clementines,%20pureed%20and%20strained%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20everything%20but%20egg%20together%20until%20blended.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChill%20in%20the%20fridge%20for%2030%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFold%20in%20the%20egg%20white.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBang%20all%20this%20in%20your%20ice%20cream%20maker%20and%20press%20go.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
