.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20the%20most%20fascinating%20aspects%20about%20the%20French%20Quarter,%20and%20New%20Orleans%20in%20general,%20is%20the%20cocktail%20culture.%20I%20mean,%20this%20is%20a%20place%20where%20not%20only%20can%20you%20find%20anything%20from%20huge-ass%20beers%20to%20wine%20smoothies%20to%20neon-colored%20daiquiris,%20but%20you%20can%20walk%20around%20with%20them%20as%20you%20amble%20down%20the%20street%20to%20find%20your%20next%20destination.%20But%20if%20giant%20alcoholic%20slushies%20aren%E2%80%99t%20your%20particular%20bag,%20it%E2%80%99s%20just%20as%20easy%20to%20enjoy%20a%20well-crafted%20drink%20in%20a%20gorgeous%20bar%20and%20add%20a%20touch%20of%20sophistication%20to%20your%20debauchery.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnter%20French%2075%20and%20the%20Carousel%20Bar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECarousel%20Bar%20in%20action.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBoth%20of%20these%20are%20in%20vaunted%20spaces:%20the%20Carousel%20Bar%20is%20in%20the%20Hotel%20Monteleone%20and%20it%20actually%20rotates,%20and%20the%20French%2075%20occupies%20owned%20by%20%20the%20legendary%20Arnaud%E2%80%99s%20that%20at%20one%20time%20was%20a%20gentlemen%E2%80%99s-only%20bar.%20Both%20were%20also%20on%20my%20list%20of%20must-visit%20venues,%20and%20as%20it%20goes,%20they%20were%20they%20only%20two%20places%20that%20we%20went%20to%20more%20than%20once%20on%20our%20trip.%20(Granted,%20it%20was%20easy%20to%20visit%20the%20Carousel%20more%20than%20one%20time%20as%20we%20were%20staying%20in%20the%20Monteleone,%20but%20still.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVieux%20Carr%C3%A9%20from%20the%20Hotel%20Monteleone%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20we%20were%20able%20to%20hop%20onto%20the%20rotating%20bar%20at%20the%20Carousel,%20we%20tended%20to%20stick%20to%20classics:%20Sazerac,%20Aviation,%20and%20of%20course%20the%20Vieux%20Carr%C3%A9,%20their%20specialty.%20While%20all%20%20of%20them%20were%20delicious,%20the%20Vieux%20Carr%C3%A9%20was%20by%20far%20my%20favorite,%20because%20it%20was%20such%20a%20classic%20cocktail-bar-cocktail:%20made%20with%20rye,%20Benedictine,%20sweet%20vermouth,%20cognac,%20and%20two%20kinds%20of%20bitters,%20it%E2%80%99s%20the%20kind%20of%20drink%20that%20is%20complex%20and%20not%20the%20most%20ideal%20to%20make%20at%20home%20(that%20is,%20unless%20you%20enjoy%20collecting%20obscure%20liquors),%20but%20is%20perfect%20for%20sipping%20at%20a%20bar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThamaryis%20(Boodles%20Gin,%20Plymnia%20Dram,%20Cynar)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrench%2075,%20on%20the%20other%20hand,%20was%20our%20place%20to%20try%20out%20some%20more%20unique%20tipples%20in%20a%20slightly%20less-energetic%20ambiance.%20Resplendent%20with%20dark%20wood%20and%20subway%20tiles,%20it%E2%80%99s%20a%20place%20that%20demands%20you%20to%20linger%20while%20you%20savor%20your%20drinks,%20if%20only%20because%20you%20want%20to%20try%20more%20than%20one%20while%20you%E2%80%99re%20there.%20The%20menu%20is%20filled%20with%20unique%20signature%20concoctions%20featuring%20ingredients%20I%E2%80%99ve%20never%20heard%20of,%20like%20Plymnia%20Dram%20or%20Falernum;%20fortunately,%20there%E2%80%99s%20little%20need%20to%20know%20anything%20about%20them%20because%20you%20are%20in%20the%20very%20capable%20hands%20of%20main%20bartender%20Chris%20Hannah,%20and%20absolutely%20nothing%20we%20tried%20failed%20in%20delighting%20us.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChris%20Hannah%20at%20work%20on%20a%20cocktail.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20the%20drinks%20we%20were%20able%20to%20try,%20my%20absolute%20favorite%20was%20the%20Thamaryis:%20made%20with%20gin,%20the%20aforementioned%20Plymnia%20Dram%20and%20Cynar,%20it%E2%80%99s%20bitter%20and%20complex%20and%20perhaps%20the%20perfect%20antidote%20to%20all%20of%20the%20sweet%20drinks%20that%20are%20readily%20available%20elsewhere%20in%20the%20Quarter.%20It%E2%80%99s%20also%20strong,%20which%20was%20unexpected%20as%20so%20many%20of%20the%20cocktails%20we%20had%20elsewhere%20were%20decidedly%20not.%20Another%20favorite%20was%20the%20Pisco%20Derby:%20tart%20and%20sweet%20thanks%20to%20lime%20and%20grapefruit%20juices%20and%20lavender%20honey,%20it%20was%20never%20cloyingly%20so.%20It%E2%80%99s%20also%20one%20I%E2%80%99d%20like%20to%20try%20my%20hand%20at%20soon,%20if%20only%20to%20try%20to%20take%20advantage%20of%20the%20last%20grapefruit%20of%20the%20season.%20It%20should%20go%20without%20saying%20that%20the%20bar%E2%80%99s%20eponymous%20cocktail%20is%20delicious,%20but%20I%20wanted%20to%20say%20it%20anyway.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrench%2075%20interior.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETen%20years%20had%20passed%20between%20MIchael%E2%80%99s%20first%20time%20to%20New%20Orleans%20and%20this%20trip,%20and%20I%20hope%20that%20we%20don%E2%80%99t%20let%20that%20much%20time%20go%20before%20our%20next%20trip%20to%20the%20city%20because%20that%20is%20far%20too%20long%20to%20wait%20to%20have%20another%20spin%20on%20the%20Carousel%20and%20a%20sip%20of%20a%20creative%20libation.%20Given%20how%20easy%20it%20was%20to%20get%20there,%20I%E2%80%99m%20hopeful%20we%20won%E2%80%99t%20have%20to%20wait%20that%20long%20to%20make%20our%20return.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%2
