%20with%20blackberry-rosemary%20compote.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBlackberry-Rosemary%20Compote%20with%20Crottin%20goat%20cheese%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20follow%20me%20on%20Instagram%20(you%20should!%20I%20post%20there%20sometimes!)%20you%20may%20have%20noticed%20that%20over%20the%20course%20of%20February%20I%20was%20posting%20shots%20of%20various%20tableaux,%20usually%20featuring%20wine%20and/or%20cheese%20and%20tagging%20a%20local%20wine%20shop%20in%20all%20of%20them.%20It%20was%20part%20of%20a%20promotion%20they%20were%20running%20in%20which%20they%20would%20randomly%20select%20a%20winner%20and%20give%20them%20a%20$50%20gift%20card,%20and%20while%20winning%20would%20obviously%20be%20awesome%20(a%20winner%20hasn%E2%80%99t%20been%20announced%20yet%20as%20of%20posting%20this),%20I%20also%20really%20liked%20the%20chance%20to%20exercise%20some%20creativity%20and%20take%20some%20interesting%20photos.%20Moreover,%20it%20also%20gave%20me%20an%20excellent%20reason%20to%20experiment%20some%20more%20in%20making%20some%20flavorful%20accompaniments%20to%20cheeses,%20and%20while%20the%20contest%20itself%20may%20be%20over,%20I%E2%80%99m%20looking%20forward%20to%20expanding%20my%20repertoire.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFirst%20up%20on%20the%20list:%20blackberry%20compote.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFirst%20attempt%20at%20blackberry%20compote%20from%20earlier%20this%20month.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhy%20blackberries,%20you%20ask?%20The%20reason%20is%20simple:%20they%E2%80%99ve%20been%20on%20sale%20for%20most%20of%20the%20month%20of%20February%20both%20at%20the%20Teet%20and%20Whole%20Foods%20so%20I%E2%80%99ve%20been%20using%20them%20all%20over%20the%20place,%20from%20snacking%20on%20them%20to%20testing%20out%20reverse%20spherification%20using%20various%20mixtures.%20En%20route%20to%20the%20store%20one%20Sunday%20early%20in%20the%20month%20I%20started%20Googling%20blackberry%20compote%20recipes%20but%20none%20really%20caught%20my%20eye;%20buying%20a%20few%20pints%20anyway%20I%20figured%20I%E2%80%99d%20find%20something%20else%20to%20try%20with%20a%20more%20thorough%20search.%20That%20resulted%20in%20me%20stumbling%20on%20this%20Food52%20recipe,%20and%20so%20on%20a%20Friday%20morning%20before%20work%20I%20whipped%20up%20a%20batch%20and%20proceeded%20to%20fill%20our%20open-plan%20apartment%20with%20a%20very%20intense%20smell%20that%20resembled%20the%20frankincense%20Catholic%20priests%20like%20to%20use%20during%20special%20masses.%20The%20compote%20was%20tasty,%20but%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20quite%20what%20I%20had%20in%20mind%20so%20the%20next%20time%20I%20left%20out%20the%20juniper%20berries%20and%20instead%20used%20more%20rosemary%20in%20the%20form%20of%20sprigs%20as%20well%20as%20some%20rosemary%20simple%20syrup.%20This%20was%20more%20aligned%20to%20what%20I%20was%20wanting:%20sweet%20but%20with%20strong%20herbal%20notes%20that%20weren%E2%80%99t%20overly%20complicated%20by%20having%20too%20many%20at%20the%20party.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPer%20the%20original%20recipe%E2%80%99s%20instructions%20I%20let%20the%20compote%20cool%20and%20then%20reheated%20it%20in%20the%20microwave%20for%20a%20minute%20or%20so%20on%20medium%20power%20when%20I%20wanted%20to%20serve%20it,%20and%20it%20was%20such%20a%20nice%20partner%20to%20some%20really%20creamy%20Crottin%20goat%20cheese.%20If%20you%20wanted%20to%20make%20it%20a%20little%20easier%20to%20eat%20in%20an%20entertaining%20situation,%20it%20would%20also%20go%20nicely%20on%20toasts%20that%20have%20been%20spread%20with%20some%20goat%20cheese%20(or%20any%20soft%20cheese%20you%20may%20prefer),%20because%20admittedly%20blackberry%20anything%20can%20get%20very%20messy%20and%20I%20can%20completely%20understand%20not%20wanting%20your%20guests%20to%20have%20to%20constantly%20wash%20their%20hands%20to%20prevent%20blackberry%20stains%20on%20their%20fingers%20if%20you%20just%20try%20to%20eat%20it%20as-is.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPair%20with%20your%20favorite%20red%E2%80%93I%E2%80%99m%20a%20fan%20of%20Spanish%20and%20Catalunyan%20garnachas%20lately%20myself%E2%80%93and%20either%20a%20gathering%20of%20friends%20or%20simply%20your%20favorite%20book%20or%20TV%20show,%20and%20either%20way,%20you%E2%80%99re%20doing%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBlackberry-Rosemary%20Compote%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20this%20recipe%20at%20Food52%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20all%20ingredients%20into%20a%20saucepan%E2%80%93make%20sure%20the%20rosemary%20sprigs%20are%20covered%20by%20blackberries%E2%80%93and%20bring%20to%20a%20simmer%20on%20medium%20heat.%20Let%20the%20blackberries%20start%20to%20release%20their%20juices%20and%20then%20lower%20the%20heat%20to%20medium%20low%20and%20let%20cook%20for%2020-25%20minutes,%20stirring%20occasionally.%20I%20like%20to%20let%20the%20berries%20retain%20some%20of%20their%20shape,%20but%20let%20it%20cook%20for%20longer%20if%20you%20want%20something%20that%20more%20closely%20resembles%20a%20syrup.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFish%20out%20the%20rosemary%20sprigs%20(note:%20the%20original%20recipe%20does%20mention%20putting%20them%20and%20the%20peppercorns%20in%20cheese%20cloth%20to%20make%20it%20easier%20to%20take%20out%20at%20the%20end,%20but%20I%20like%20that%20some%20of%20the%20needles%20fell%20into%20the%20sauce%20but%20I%20also%20really,%20really%20like%20rosemary)%20and%20place%20into%20a%20bowl%20to%20chill%20for%20at%20least%20a%20few%20hours.%20To%20serve,%20reheat%20in%20the%20microwave%20for%20about%20a%20minute%20or%20two%20on%20half%20power,%20stirring%20every%20so%20often%20to%20make%20sure%20the%20mixture%20is%20heating%20evenly.%20Serve%20with%20soft%20cheese%20of%20your%20choice.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
