%20Another%20thing%20I%20like%20is%20the%20accents%20on%20so%20many%20of%20the%20announcers.%20But%20those%20horns%20that%20sound%20like%20millions%20of%20angry%20bees%20and%20stay%20in%20your%20head%20for%20hours%20after%20the%20game%20ends%20even%20through%20the%20tv?%20Who%E2%80%99s%20idea%20were%20those?%20Thanks,%20but%20I%20prefer%20my%20soccer%20without%20them.%20Especially%20since%20there%20is%20often%20such%20great%20chants%20and%20music%20in%20the%20stands%20by%20groups%20of%20fans%20that%20we%20can%E2%80%99t%20hear.%20One%20other%20thing%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20like,%20what%20is%20with%20the%20particularly%20tight%20jerseys%20on%20some%20of%20these%20teams?%20Never%20a%20good%20look.%20That%20is%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlso:%20Go%20Celts!%20Beat%20LA.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20this%20to%20say%20I%20am%20actually%20writing%20about%20a%20creation%20from%20last%20weekend.%20I%20can%E2%80%99t%20figure%20out%20where%20time%20has%20gone.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESoft%20shell%20crab%20season%20is%20short%20but%20oh%20so%20sweet,%20and%20I%20try%20to%20take%20advantage%20while%20it%20lasts.%20My%20favorite%20way%20to%20cook%20them%20is%20to%20fry%20in%20tempura%20batter.%20It%20is%20really%20quick%20and%20easy%20and%20you%20can%E2%80%99t%20really%20go%20wrong.%20Except%20just%20a%20warning.%20If%20you%20have%20a%20fish%20market%20close%20by,%20you%20may%20want%20to%20ask%20them%20to%20clean%20the%20crabs%20for%20you.%20It%20is%20not%20hard,%20but%20involves%20cutting%20the%20face%20off%20a%20live%20creature%20and%20said%20creature%20gets%20mad,%20so%20it%E2%80%99s%20a%20little%20creepy.%20Totally%20worth%20it,%20but%20you%20may%20not%20think%20so.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20brioche%20in%20the%20freezer%20that%20I%20made%20a%20couple%20of%20weeks%20ago,%20and%20an%20avocado%20and%20a%20spring%20onion%20in%20the%20fridge,%20and%20a%20dish%20was%20born.%20I%20made%20a%20quick%20salad%20with%20avocado,%20very%20thinly%20sliced%20spring%20onion,%20which%20is%20nice%20and%20mild%20but%20still%20has%20onion%20flavor,%20and%20a%20couple%20of%20tablespoons%20of%20ginger%20miso%20dressing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eavocado%20salad%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Efried%20to%20delight%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBrioche%20on%20the%20plate,%20softshell%20on%20the%20brioche,%20salad%20on%20the%20softshell.%20I%20ate%20one%20stack%20and%20it%20was%20so%20good%20I%20went%20back%20and%20made%20a%20second.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eperfection%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20suspected%20this%20would%20be%20good,%20but%20it%20was%20just%20one%20of%20those%20dishes%20that%20was%20unexpected%20perfection.%20I%20was%20so%20excited%20I%20called%20my%20dad%20immediately.%20Sometimes%20things%20just%20work%20out%20better%20than%20expected.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20these%20would%20have%20made%20a%20perfect%20appetizer,%20and%20though%20soft%20shells%20are%20a%20little%20pricey%20if%20you%20are%20trying%20to%20serve%20a%20crowd,%20they%20are%20a%20nice%20splurge%20for%20the%20occasional%20dinner%20for%20two.%20And%20one%20softshell%20is%20a%20good%20appetizer%20size.%20If%20you%20wanted%20to%20forego%20the%20bread%20these%20would%20also%20be%20great%20over%20a%20slaw%20I%20think.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20the%20avocado%20salad:%20combine%20the%20diced%20avocado,%20spring%20onion,%20dressing%20and%20black%20pepper%20in%20the%20small%20bowl%20and%20set%20aside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMake%20the%20tempura%20batter:%20whisk%20together%20flour,%20salt,%20pepper%20and%20cayenne,%20if%20using,%20in%20a%20small%20bowl,%20and%20then%20whisk%20in%20club%20soda%20or%20beer,%20set%20aside.%20Heat%203%20inches%20of%20oil%20in%20a%20heavy%20deep%20pot%20or%20a%20wok%20(a%20wok%20will%20heat%20up%20faster%20and%20require%20less%20oil)%20over%20medium-high%20heat%20until%20very%20hot%20and%20shimmering.%20Submerge%20crabs%20in%20tempura%20batter%20to%20thoroughly%20coat.%20Test%20readiness%20of%20oil%20by%20adding%20a%20small%20amount%20of%20the%20batter%20to%20the%20oil,%20if%20it%20bubbles%20furiously%20and%20crisps%20up%20right%20away,%20the%20oil%20is%20ready.%20Add%20the%20crabs%20to%20the%20hot%20oil%20and%20cook%20for%204-5%20minutes%20until%20they%20are%20just%20lightly%20golden,%20you%20may%20need%20to%20turn%20them%20over%20once%20if%20they%20are%20not%20frying%20evenly.%20When%20cooked,%20remove%20them%20from%20the%20oil%20and%20drain%20on%20paper%20towels.%20In%20the%20meantime,%20as%20the%20crabs%20are%20frying,%20toast%20the%20brioche.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20plate:%20put%20the%20brioche%20on%20a%20plate%20and%20lay%20the%20crab%20on%20top%20of%20it.%20Spoon%20half%20the%20avocado%20salad%20over%20the%20top,%20and%20then%20garnish%20with%20some%20of%20the%20crispy%20tempura%20bits%20from%20the%20oil%20if%20you%20would%20like.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnjoy!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
