,%20listen%20to%20Lynne%20discuss%20food%20trends%20and%20play%20a%20few%20rounds%20of%20%E2%80%9CStump%20the%20Cook.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20an%20engaging%20conversation%20with%20Vermont%20Edition%E2%80%99s%20host%20Jane%20Lindholm%20on%20hot%20topics%20such%20as%20the%20farm%20bill,%20the%20national%20school%20lunch%20program%20and%20the%20local%20food%20movement,%20Lynne%20was%20ready%20to%20take%20on%20ingredients%20from%20Vermont%20kitchens%20in%20her%20on-the-spot%20recipe%20creation%20game.%20%20The%20second%20person%20to%20be%20selected%20from%20the%20audience,%20was%20(poor%20Lynne)%20my%20husband.%20%20As%20regular%20listeners%20of%20her%20radio%20program,%20and%20gatherers%20of%20uncommon%20food%20stuffs,%20we%20were%20eager%20to%20try%20to%20stump%20her.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20frequent%20traveler%20for%20his%20work%20in%20world%20music,%20my%20husband%20often%20returns%20home%20with%20a%20food%20souvenir%20or%20two%20for%20the%20family%20to%20try.%20%20As%20a%20result,%20we%20have%20two%20jars%20of%20vegemite%20from%20a%20trip%20to%20Australia%20several%20years%20back%20(both%20still%20in%20pristine%20condition)%20and%20an%20unlabeled%20sack%20of%20some%20sort%20of%20spice%20mix%20from%20Turkey%20that%20we%20needed%20recipe%20help%20with.%20%20To%20complete%20the%20required%20list%20of%20five%20ingredients,%20we%20added%20the%20kohlrabis%20from%20a%20our%20farmshare%20box,%20a%20piece%20of%20Dutch%20cumin%20cheese%20and%20cacao%20nibs.%20%20My%20father%20learned%20of%20the%20high%20nutritional%20value%20of%20real%20chocolate%20a%20while%20back,%20and%20purchased%20a%20five%20pound%20bag,%20only%20to%20discover%20that%20crushed%20raw%20cacao%20beans%20are%20extremely%20hard%20and%20bitter%20and%20that%20he%20did%20not%20much%20care%20for%20them.%20We%20were%20the%20lucky%20recipients%20of%20his%20investment.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELynne%20asked%20if%20we%20also%20had%20olive%20oil,%20salt,%20pepper,%20cinnamon,%20raisins,%20couscous,%20water%20and%20maybe%20some%20fresh%20cilantro,%20and%20suggested%20the%20following:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChop%20the%20kohlrabi%20into%20small%20cubes,%20and%20rub%20it%20with%20the%20%20%20mysterious%20Turkish%20spice%20mix%20(which%20we%20later%20realized%20is%20most%20likely%20a%20harissa)%20and%20olive%20oil.%20Roast%20in%20the%20oven.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMeanwhile,%20make%20a%20broth%20with%20water%20and%20a%20teaspoon%20of%20vegemite,%20in%20which%20to%20cook%20the%20couscous.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20raisins,%20cinnamon,%20black%20pepper%20and%20cacao%20nibs.%20I%20also%20added%20olive%20oil%20(fat%20miraculously%20removes%20the%20bitter%20and%20enhances%20the%20chocolate%20flavor%20of%20the%20cacao).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20small%20cubes%20of%20cumin%20seed%20cheese%20into%20the%20warm%20couscous,%20top%20with%20the%20roasted%20kohlrabi%20and%20sprinkle%20with%20fresh%20cilantro.%20%20I%20added%20a%20green%20salad%20to%20complete%20the%20meal%20and%20rang%20the%20dinner%20bell.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20sweet-savory%20couscous%20with%20crunchy%20cacao%20nibs%20and%20soft%20raisins%20was%20full%20of%20flavor%20and%20the%20clear%20winner%20around%20the%20dinner%20table.%20The%20roasted%20kohlrabi%20may%20have%20performed%20better%20had%20we%20been%20able%20to%20describe%20the%20ingredients%20of%20the%20spice%20mix%20better%20and%20in%20combination%20with%20additional%20root%20vegetables.%20All%20in%20all,%20kudos%20to%20Lynne%20Rossetto%20Kasper.%20%20Another%20creative%20recipe%20from%20the%20unstumpable%20cook.%20%20Thank%20you!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20a%20great%20read%20about%20the%20whole%20event,%20Lynne%E2%80%99s%20work%20and%20the%20other%20recipes%20she%20concocted%20that%20day,%20click%20through%20to%20Corin%20Hirsh%E2%80%99s%20article%20in%20Seven%20Days,%20and%20a%20special%20thanks%20for%20her%20interest%20and%20follow-up%20piece%20on%20our%20recipe%20taste%20test.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20more%20Splendid%20Table%20fun,%20enjoy%20podcasts%20via%20the%20website%20and%20listen%20on%20your%20local%20NPR%20station,%20and%20browse%20Lynne%E2%80%99s%20many%20books%20full%20of%20well-tested%20recipes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
