%20and%20I%20feel%20like%20I%20could%20sleep%20forever.%20%20Also%20the%20amount%20of%20inventive%20and%20interesting%20cooking%20and%20baking%20I%20have%20been%20doing%20in%20the%20past%20few%20weeks%20has%20been%20dwindling,%20I%20have%20been%20holding%20on%20to%20three%20recipes%20for%20almost%20three%20weeks%20-%20Jake%20Hoernschmeyer's%2022nd%20birthday%20cake,%20Jake%20Trithart's%2022nd%20birthday%20cake%20and%20a%20few%20batches%20of%20cake%20balls%20(most%20of%20which%20ended%20up%20at%20the%20former%20Jake's%20house%20or%20in%20my%20roommates%20stomachs).%20%20The%20first%20recipe%20I%20will%20be%20posting%20is%20for%20the%20first%20Jake's%20birthday%20-%20a%20chocolate%20cake%20with%20a%20vanilla%20bean%20buttercream.%20%20With%20a%20special%20request%20for%20sprinkles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20baked%20for%20about%20three%20days%20straight,%20continuously%20wore%20my%20apron%20and%20always%20had%20a%20light%20dusting%20of%20flour%20covering%20my%20hair%20and%20face.%20%20Seeing%20how%20happy%20Jake%20was%20when%20we%20brought%20out%20the%20cake%20singing%20%22Happy%20Birthday%22%20and%20being%20able%20to%20give%20all%20his%20friends%20cake%20made%20it%20all%20worth%20it.%20%20Yet%20it%20also%20didn't%20hurt%20that%20I%20had%20a%20chance%20to%20try%20out%20my%20new%20cake%20leveler%20and%20two%20new%20piping%20tips!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20asked%20him%20in%20March%20what%20kind%20of%20cake%20he%20wanted%20-%20he%20specifically%20requested%20a%20chocolate%20cake%20with%20a%20vanilla%20frosting%20and%20there%20had%20to%20be%20sprinkles.%20%20Of%20course%20I%20had%20to%20make%20it%20a%20little%20fancier.%20%20I%20used%20my%20%22stand-by%22%20chocolate%20cake%20recipe%20-%20I%20have%20been%20using%20this%20recipe%20for%20about%20four%20years.%20%20It's%20a%20slightly%20dense,%20but%20moist,%20cake%20with%20a%20nice%20crumb.%20%20I%20froze%20the%20three%20layers%20overnight%20wrapped%20in%20saran%20wrap%20placed%20in%20freezer%20safe%20bags%20-%20it%20makes%20leveling%20and%20decorating%20immensely%20easier.%20%20For%20the%20frosting,%20I%20had%20been%20wanting%20to%20use%20vanilla%20beans%20for%20a%20quite%20some%20time%20and%20I%20felt%20like%20a%20vanilla%20bean%20buttercream%20would%20be%20the%20best%20way%20to%20foray.%20%20I'm%20glad%20I%20made%20the%20buttercream,%20but%20who%20knew%20just%20TWO%20vanilla%20beans%20were%20so%20expensive?%20%20Once%20again,%20it%20was%20worth%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERegardless,%20I%20really%20do%20recommend%20making%20this%20cake%20for%20your%20next%20birthday,%20celebration%E2%80%A6%20or%20any%20day%20you%20think%20you%20want%20a%20cake.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees.%20Butter%20and%20flour%203%20(9-inch)%20cake%20pans.%20Cut%203%20circles%20of%20waxed%20paper%20or%20parchment%20paper%20to%20fit%20the%20bottoms%20of%20the%20pans,%20then%20press%20them%20in.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20mixer%20fitted%20with%20a%20whisk%20attachment%20(or%20using%20a%20hand%20mixer),%20cream%20the%20butter%20until%20smooth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20sugar%20and%20eggs%20and%20mix%20until%20fluffy,%20about%203%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20vanilla,%20cocoa,%20baking%20soda%20and%20salt%20and%20mix.%20Add%201/2%20of%20the%20flour,%20then%201/2%20of%20the%20sour%20cream%20and%20mix.%20Repeat%20with%20the%20remaining%20flour%20and%20sour%20cream.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDrizzle%20in%20the%20hot%20coffee%20and%20mix%20until%20smooth.%20The%20batter%20will%20be%20thin.%20Pour%20into%20the%20prepared%20pans%20and%20bake%20until%20the%20tops%20are%20firm%20to%20the%20touch%20and%20a%20toothpick%20inserted%20into%20the%20center%20comes%20out%20clean%20(a%20few%20crumbs%20are%20okay),%20about%2035%20minutes.%20Halfway%20through%20the%20baking,%20quickly%20rotate%20the%20pans%20in%20the%20oven%20to%20ensure%20even%20baking,%20but%20otherwise%20try%20not%20to%20open%20the%20oven.%20Let%20cool%20in%20the%20pan%2010%20minutes.%20Turn%20out%20onto%20wire%20racks%20and%20let%20cool%20completely%20before%20frosting.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVanilla%20Bean%20Buttercream%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20Cook's%20Illustrated%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%C2%BD%20sticks%20unsalted%20butter,%20softened%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20vanilla%20beans,%20halved%20lengthwise%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4+%20cups%20confectioners%E2%80%99%20sugar%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPinch%20salt%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1%20teaspoon%20vanilla%20extract%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20standing%20mixer%20fitted%20with%20the%20whisk%20attachment,%20beat%20the%20butter%20at%20medium-high%20speed%20until%20smooth,%20about%2020%20seconds.%20Using%20a%20paring%20knife,%20scrape%20seeds%20from%20vanilla%20bean%20into%20butter%20and%20beat%20mixture%20at%20medium-high%20speed%20to%20combine,%20about%2015%20seconds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20confectioners%E2%80%99%20sugar%20and%20salt;%20beat%20at%20medium-low%20speed%20until%20most%20of%20the%20sugar%20is%20moistened,%20about%201%20minute.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScrape%20down%20the%20bowl%20and%20beat%20at%20medium%20speed%20until%20mixture%20is%20fully%20incorporated,%20about
