%20You%20can%20click%20on%20the%20link%20above%20or%20click%20on%20the%20icon%20in%20my%20sidebar%20to%20the%20right.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20time%20for%20this%20month's%20Secret%20Recipe%20Club.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20assigned%20to%20Chris's%20blog%20Mele%20Cotte,%20which%20I%20learned%20means%20%22baked%20apple%22%20in%20Italian.%20She%20has%20an%20array%20of%20recipes%20that%20anyone%20would%20want%20to%20try!%20How%20about%20some%20Marinated%20Mushrooms,%20or%20Lemon%20Buttermilk%20Pound%20Cake?%20So%20many%20sounded%20delish%20but%20I%20decided%20on%20her%20Homemade%20Twix%20Bars.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECuz%20I%20don't%20even%20think%20it%20is%20possible%20for%20me%20to%20pass%20up%20chocolate%20and%20caramel.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20did%20put%20mine%20in%20the%20freezer%20to%20get%20them%20nice%20and%20firm,%20more%20like%20a%20Twix%20bar.%20Then%20I%20stored%20them%20in%20the%20fridge%20so%20they%20would%20stay%20firm.%20At%20room%20temperature,%20they%20get%20softer.%20But%20they%20were%20good%20that%20way%20too!%20I%20just%20prefer%20mine%20firm%20from%20the%20fridge%20%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHomemade%20Twix%20Bars%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20350%C2%B0F.%20Spray%20and%20line%20the%20bottom%20of%20an%208-inch%20square%20pan%20with%20parchment%20paper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20shortbread,%20combine%20flour,%20softened%20butter,%20sugar,%20and%20vanilla%20extract%20in%20a%20large%20mixing%20bowl.%20Beat%20for%201%20minute%20on%20medium%20speed%20until%20the%20batter%20starts%20to%20come%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Etogether.%20Do%20not%20overbeat.%20While%20together%20but%20still%20crumbly,%20transfer%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Edough%20to%20the%20prepared%20pan%20and%20press%20evenly%20and%20firmly%20to%20make%20the%20base.%20Bake%20for%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E20-25%20minutes,%20or%20until%20golden.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMeanwhile,%20make%20the%20caramel%20filling.%20Place%20the%20butter,%20sugar,%20dark%20corn%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Esyrup,%20and%20condensed%20milk%20in%20a%20medium%20saucepan%20over%20medium-low%20heat.%20Stir%20frequently.%20Once%20the%20sugar%20dissolves,%20increase%20heat%20and%20bring%20mixture%20to%20a%20boil,%20then%20reduce%20heat%20back%20to%20medium-low%20heat.%20Cook,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Estirring%20frequently,%20for%208-10%20minutes%20until%20the%20mixture%20becomes%20thick%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20begins%20to%20pull%20away%20from%20the%20sides%20of%20the%20pan.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20over%20the%20baked%20shortbread%20base%20and%20let%20cool%20for%2015-30%20minutes.%20Place%20in%20the%20refrigerator%20to%20cool%20and%20firm%20completely.%20Once%20firm,%20melt%20the%20chocolate%20in%20a%20microwave%20safe%20bowl%20until%20melted,%20stirring%20frequently.%20Cool%20slightly.%20Pour%20over%20the%20caramel%20and%20spread,%20creating%20an%20even%20layer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChill%20to%20set.%20Cut%20into%20desired%20bars.%20%20Store%20in%20an%20airtight%20container%20for%20up%20to%20a%20week.%20Makes%20about%2016,%204-inch%20sticks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebars%20weren't%20difficult%20to%20make%20at%20all.%20Make%20a%20golden%20shortbread%20base,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecover%20it%20with%20a%20sweet%20caramel%20filling,%20and%20top%20it%20off%20with%20some%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Echocolate...%20reminiscent%20of%20a%20Twix%20candy%20bar.%20Except%20homemade%20is%20always%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebetter.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20you%20can%20give%20them%20away%20to%20people%20to%20show%20them%20you%20care.%20Chocolate%20and%20caramel%20do%20that,%20ya%20know%20%20:)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPeace,%20and%20bacon%20grease!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
