%20and%20the%20horseradish%20was%20limited%20to%20only%20a%20hint%20of%20the%20true%20power%20of%20The%20Root,%20with%20the%20strongest%20flavor%20element%20being%20vinegar.%20I%20think%20these%20will%20really%20appeal%20to%20people%20who%20like%20salt-and-vinegar%20flavored%20chips...as%20long%20as%20they%20don't%20mind%20a%20[small]%20bit%20of%20horseradish%20kick.%20The%20kettle%20cooking%20%20is%20a%20plus;%20the%20hearty%20crunch%20is%20a%20great%20accompaniment.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWavy%20Mango%20Salsa%20-%20Fruity%20and%20slightly%20spicy,%20Lay's%20has%20come%20up%20with%20a%20rather%20odd%20interpretation%20of%20mango%20salsa%20for%20these%20chips.%20%22Mango%22%20is%20way%20down%20the%20list%20of%20ingredients%20in%20the%20%22Mango%20Salsa%20Seasonings%22%20on%20the%20label%20list%20(third%20from%20last!)%20and%20it%20comes%20through%20as%20kind%20of%20a%20vague%20fermenty%20citrus%20flavor,%20almost%20like%20overripe%20pineapple%20than%20mango.%20%20Red%20bell%20peppers,%20onion%20powder,%20and%20paprika%20round%20out%20the%20salsa%20taste.%20I%20can't%20imagine%20this%20flavor%20winning%20the%20challenge.%20On%20it's%20own,%20it's%20kind%20of%20disgusting.%20But%20it's%20a%20wavy%20chip,%20and%20that%20means%20it's%20made%20for%20dipping!%20Maybe%20Lay's%20intends%20this%20flavor%20to%20get%20obliterated%20by%20heavily-seasoned%20dips.%20Oh%20well.%20I'll%20never%20know,%20because%20I'll%20never%20care.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECheddar%20Bacon%20Mac%20&%20Cheese%20-%20A%20flavor%20bulls-eye,%20and%20why%20wouldn't%20it%20be?%20Powdered%20cheese%20flavoring%20has%20been%20turning%20fingers%20orange%20for%20at%20least%2050%20years,%20it%20would%20be%20almost%20impossible%20for%20them%20to%20screw%20it%20up.%20Now,%20most%20%22bacon%22%20flavored%20stuff%20is%20pure%20garbage,%20relying%20on%20smoke%20and%20salt%20to%20try%20to%20fool%20your%20taste%20buds%20into%20thinking%20it%20doesn't%20suck.%20And%20I'm%20sure%20that%20one%20of%20the%20components%20of%20the%20%22Natural%20Bacon%20Type%20Flavor%22%20listed%20on%20the%20label%20is%20smoke,%20because%20once%20you%20notice%20it,%20it%20becomes%20almost%20the%20only%20thing%20you%20can%20taste.%20But%20there%20is%20a%20%22meaty%22%20quality%20to%20the%20chip%20flavor%20that%20powdered%20chemicals%20alone%20can%20not%20explain.%20Oh,%20wait,%20maybe%20it's%20the%20bacon%20fat!%20%20Yes,%20Frito-Lay%20doses%20the%20formula%20with%20real%20bacon%20fat%20for%20that%20authentic%20pigmeat%20experience.%20In%20the%20end,%20though,%20it%20probably%20doesn't%20matter:%20long%20before%20the%20end%20of%20the%20bag,%20I%20had%20eaten%20a%20lifetime's%20supply%20and%20the%20chips%20were%20tasting%20more%20like%20Cheetos%20rubbed%20around%20an%20ashtray%20than%20Bacon%20Mac%20&%20Cheese.%20%20Sadly,%20this%20flavor%20will%20probably%20be%20the%20winner,%20because%20there%20are%20countless%20people%20who%20have%20been%20mesmerized%20by%20the%20Internet%20Bacon%20Meme%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECappuccino%20-%20Right%20off%20the%20bat,%20I%20was%20impressed%20by%20the%20Cappuccino%20variety.%20If%20you%20like%20coffee,%20your%20mouth%20is%20going%20to%20water%20as%20soon%20as%20you%20open%20the%20bag,%20because%20a%20sweet%20and%20gentle%20coffee%20aroma%20will%20wrap%20your%20face%20in%20a%20comfy%20caffeinated%20quilt%20that%20beckons%20your%20taste%20buds.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20they%20only%20get%20better%20from%20there.%20Cappuccino%20chips%20have%20a%20lot%20of%20complex%20things%20going%20on%20in%20their%20flavor%20profile.%20Coffee,%20cream,%20cinnamon,%20and%20a%20buttery%20richness%20that%20made%20me%20check%20the%20ingredients%20panel%20(sure%20enough,%20butter%20is%20on%20the%20list.)%20While%20the%20taste%20can't%20ever%20be%20said%20to%20be%20truly%20%22cappuccino,%22%20they%20have%20the%20same%20kind%20of%20umami%20appeal%20that%20salty%20caramel%20has%20-%20I%20swear,%20the%20human%20mouth%20is%20hard-wired%20to%20instantly%20love%20anything%20that%20is%20simultaneously%20salty%20and%20sweet.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20liked%20them%20best%20of%20the%20four,%20but%20I%20have%20to%20qualify%20that%20by%20saying%20that%20these%20aren't%20the%20kind%20of%20chips%20you%20pile%20up%20on%20a%20plate%20to%20keep%20your%20burger%20company.%20They're%20a%20true%20snacking%20chip,%20meant%20to%20be%20eaten%20all%20by%20themselves%20(or%20maybe%20with%20a%20simple,%20unadorned%20sour%20cream%20dip)%20later%20in%20the%20evening%20while%20you're%20stretched%20out%20in%20your%20recliner%20watching%20Law%20&%20Order.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
