Legumes Made Easy is a series to highlight the health benefits of pulses and beans and to include them in our diet with some easy recipes. This split whole green gram or sabut Moong dal as called in Hindi, recipe is the easiest to make during the morning rush hours. And packed with soft chapattis and veggie salad, this can make a wholesome lunchbox.

Ingredients;

(serves 2)

Method: Wash the split green gram (moong dal)and soak in 2 cups of water till you assemble all the ingredients for the recipe.

Peel and slice the onion in fine pieces. Dice tomato into small cubes. Grind 3 pearls of garlic and an an inch of ginger into a paste.

Heat oil and crackle the mustard seeds in a pressure cooker. Add the diced onion and fry for a minute, add tomato, all the dry spice powders, salt, asafoetida and ginger garlic paste into it. Fry for another 2 minutes till the raw small from the garlic disappear.

Add the washed split green gram in the pressure cooker and pour the water in it. Keep the flame on high and give 2 whistles to the dish.

Take off from the flame and pour the prepared green gram into a serving dish. Squeeze the lemon juice into it and sprinkle fresh coriander leaves over it.

Serve this easy & quick split Green Gram legume curry with hot chapattis or rice.
