%20and%20started%20reading.%20I%20had%20it%20finished%20before%20the%20weekend%20was%20over.%20I%20really%20thought%20I%20remembered%20reading%20this%20book%20previously,%20but%20I%20must%20have%20been%20thinking%20of%20Chocolat,%20because%20I'm%20pretty%20certain%20I%20would%20have%20remembered%20disliking%20a%20book%20as%20much%20as%20I%20disliked%20this%20one.%20Don't%20get%20me%20wrong,%20that%20didn't%20stop%20me%20from%20reading%20it.%20I'm%20ever%20the%20optimist,%20always%20thinking,%20%22it%20has%20to%20get%20better%22....yeah,%20but%20it%20didn't.%20Maybe%20I'm%20food%20snob.%20I%20like%20real%20recipes,%20not%20fanciful%20ones%20with%20unreal%20ingredients.%20I%20mean,%20I%20enjoy%20a%20good%20piece%20of%20fiction,%20and%20I'm%20all%20about%20the%20supernatural,%20and%20Latin%20American%20cultures,%20so%20I%20really%20should%20have%20liked%20this%20book.%20But%20I%20just%20couldn't%20make%20myself%20enjoy%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat%20being%20said,%20not%20much%20will%20deter%20me%20from%20pulling%20something%20tasty%20from%20my%20kitchen,%20no%20matter%20the%20motive.%20So,%20I%20thought%20about%20the%20book;%20its%20name%20obviously%20had%20some%20inspiration%20lying%20in%20it%20(I%20mean,%20really,%20its%20CHOCOLATE....)%20and%20the%20burning%20desires%20that%20Tita%20felt%20throughout%20the%20book%20reminded%20me%20of%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20candy%20recipes.%20Aztec%20Chile%20Truffles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYep,%20if%20you've%20ever%20had%20Mexican%20hot%20chocolate,%20you're%20going%20to%20be%20all%20over%20this%20one.%20You%20can%20make%20these%20chocolates%20as%20mild%20or%20as%20spicy%20as%20you%20want%20(yes,%20that's%20right,%20I%20used%20'chocolate'%20and%20'spicy'%20in%20the%20same%20sentence.)%20Don't%20judge,%20just%20give%20it%20a%20try.%20And%20if%20you're%20still%20unsure,%20I'm%20including%20my%20other%20favorite%20truffle%20recipe%20for%20dark%20chocolate-orange%20truffles%20(another%20classic%20combo).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20ganache%20base:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStart%20with%2024%20ounces%20of%20good%20quality%20dark%20chocolate%20(or%20milk%20chocolate,%20if%20you're%20a%20wussy,%20but%20you%20know%20that%20dark%20chocolate%20is%20full%20of%20antioxidants,%20so%20we%20can%20justify%20eating%20it).%20Roughly%20chop%20the%20chocolate%20(if%20you%20are%20using%20a%20bar%20instead%20of%20chips)%20and%20put%20it%20in%20a%20double%20boiler%20(I%20use%20a%20stainless%20steel%20bowl%20over%20a%20saucepan%20of%20simmering%20water%20-%20no%20need%20for%20fancy%20equipment%20here.)%20with%20about%20a%20half%20a%20cup%20of%20heavy%20cream.%20Stir%20until%20the%20chocolate%20is%20smooth,%20then%20add%20in%20your%20spices:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20the%20mixture%20cool%20enough%20to%20handle%20and%20roll%20into%20bite%20size%20balls.%20Then%20roll%20the%20balls%20in%20cocoa%20powder%20or%20sanding%20sugar%20to%20finish;%20or%20if%20you%20have%20candy%20molds,%20spoon%20the%20ganache%20into%20them%20to%20set.%20I%20have%20some%20nice%20silicone%20molds%20that%20work%20well.Note:%20if%20you%20do%20use%20candy%20molds,%20be%20sure%20to%20gently%20(but%20firmly)%20tap%20the%20trays%20against%20the%20counter%20several%20times%20to%20work%20any%20air%20bubbles%20out%20of%20them%20and%20help%20guarantee%20a%20nice%20shape.%20I%20do%20recommend%20letting%20these%20set%20up%20in%20the%20fridge,%20versus%20the%20freezer.%20They%20seem%20to%20have%20a%20better%20texture%20that%20way,%20although%20I'm%20not%20sure%20why.%20You%20can%20also%20melt%20more%20chocolate%20and%20coat%20the%20finished%20truffles%20with%20it,%20but%20I%20am%20too%20lazy%20for%20that,%20which%20is%20why%20I%20bought%20the%20pretty%20shaped%20molds.%20These%20keep%20best%20in%20the%20fridge,%20so%20that%20the%20chocolate%20doesn't%20soften%20too%20much%20(if%20they%20aren't%20coated).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20we%20can%20all%20feel%20the%20burn,%20just%20like%20Tita.%20Enjoy!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
