,%20forgetting%20that%20it%E2%80%99s%20the%20awkward%20seesaw%20booth.%20My%20seat%20is%20attached%20to%20the%20seat%20of%20the%20booth%20behind%20me%20but%20not%20secured%20to%20much%20else.%20As%20a%20result,%20a%20particularly%20large%20or%20particularly%20enthusiastic%20person%20sitting%20down%20behind%20me%20launches%20me%20into%20the%20air.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EToday,%20two%20particularly%20enthusiastic%20little%20people%20danced%20a%20veritable%20waltz%20on%20the%20seat%20behind%20me.%20Every%20few%20seconds%20I%20would%20go%20awkwardly%20airborne.%20I%20felt%20like%20a%20passenger%20on%20a%20school%20bus%20with%20suspension%20problems%20driving%20through%20a%20speed%20bump%20factory.%20This%20made%20for%20an%20interesting%20work%20environment%20(I%E2%80%99m%20a%20workaholic;%20when%20I%20eat,%20I%20always%20work.%20And%20browse%20Facebook.%20Whatever.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20understandably%20annoyed.%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20big%20on%20confrontation,%20however,%20and%20I%20knew%20they%20were%20just%20little%20girls,%20so%20I%20seethed%20quietly.%20Sometimes%20the%20vibration%20would%20stop%20for%20a%20few%20minutes%20only%20to%20start%20again%20with%20a%20vengeance:%20pounce-giggle,%20pounce-giggle,%20POUNCEPOUNCEPOUNCE-giggle.%20I%20crushed%20my%20napkin.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20few%20minutes%20after%20the%20table%20received%20their%20food,%20however,%20I%20heard%20two%20little%20girl%20voices%20chanting%20their%20prayers%20in%20sing-song%20voices:%20%E2%80%9CGod%20is%20great.%20God%20is%20good.%20Let%20us%20thank%20Him%20for%20our%20food%E2%80%A6.%E2%80%9D%20My%20heart%20grew%20three%20sizes.%20I%20revised%20my%20past%20conclusions%20about%20these%20children%20(namely,%20that%20they%20were%20ill-behaved%20little%20trolls%20hell-bent%20on%20raising%20my%20blood%20pressure)%20and%20decided%20they%20were%20sweet%20and%20angelic.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then:%20POUNCE-giggle,%20POUNCEPOUNCE-giggle.%20WHO%20RAISED%20THOSE%20LITTLE%20HELLIONS?!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20entire%20situation%20was%20a%20paradox%20and%20I%20found%20myself%20running%20hot%20and%20cold%20in%20rapid%20succession.%20Were%20these%20little%20girls%20sweet%20or%20annoying?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20this%20situation,%20it%E2%80%99s%20obvious%20to%20see%20the%20synthesis:%20they%20were%20both.%20They%20were%20sweet%20girls%20and%20they%20were%20being%20annoying.%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20to%20make%20a%20choice%20whether%20to%20despise%20or%20love%20them.%20I%20could%20do%20a%20little%20of%20both.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ve%20noticed%20in%20other%20spheres%20of%20life%20%E2%80%94%20particularly%20ones%20that%20are%20high-stakes%20like%20politics,%20religion,%20and%20family%20issues%20%E2%80%94%20people%20are%20very%20reticent%20to%20find%20the%20synthesis.%20Perhaps%20they%20feel%20that%20giving%20an%20inch%20towards%20some%20sort%20of%20compromise%20in%20position%20would%20undermine%20their%20personal%20views;%20on%20the%20contrary,%20I%20usually%20find%20the%20synthesis%20to%20be%20more%20realistic%20and%20commendable.%20It%20inspires%20credibility%20when%20one%20can%20divorce%20themselves%20from%20a%20dogmatic%20viewpoint%20and%20find%20common%20ground.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPerhaps%20in%20the%20gun%20control%20debate,%20we%20need%20to%20value%20personal%20freedoms%20and%20brainstorm%20ways%20to%20regulate%20guns%20more%20appropriately.%20Perhaps%20in%20the%20gay%20marriage%20debate,%20we%20need%20to%20be%20able%20to%20live%20by%20our%20personal%20belief%20systems%20and%20allow%20others%20to%20live%20by%20different%20ones.%20Maybe%20we%20need%20to%20keep%20class%20sizes%20down,%20pay%20teachers%20more,%20and%20find%20ways%20to%20save%20money%20in%20our%20school%20systems.%20Maybe%20your%20overbearing%20uncle%20needs%20to%20stop%20talking%20so%20much%20and%20you%20need%20to%20listen%20and%20engage%20more%20with%20his%20stories.%20Life%20is%20not%20one%20big%20football%20game.%20We%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20to%20choose%20sides,%20paint%20our%20faces,%20and%20wear%20one%20of%20those%20morph%20suits;%20indeed,%20we%20might%20actually%20make%20progress%20by%20seeking%20common%20goals%20instead%20of%20screaming%20our%20polarized%20opinions%20louder%20and%20louder%20and%20LOUDER.%20This%20is%20something%20I%20would%20like%20Congress%20to%20revisit%20before%20any%20more%20financial%20stalemates%20occur.%20The%20more%20complex%20a%20problem%20is,%20the%20more%20important%20it%20is%20to%20get%20past%20partisan%20squabbles%20and%20get%20to%20the%20synthesis%20so%20creative%20problem%20solving%20can%20taken%20place.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20qualify,%20the%20truth%20is%20not%20always%20in%20the%20synthesis.%20Sometimes%20a%20stand%20needs%20to%20be%20taken%20because%20one%20side%20is%20right%20and%20the%20other%20side%20is%20wrong.%20But%20since%20I%E2%80%99ve%20started%20looking%20for%20the%20synthesis%20of%20viewpoints,%20I%20personally%20find%20this%20happens%20very%20infrequently.%20Much%20more%20frequently,%20progress%20could%20be%20made%20on%20an%20issue%20if%20both%20sides%20would%20acknowledge%20that,%20uh,%20they%E2%80%99re%20both%20kinda%20right.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20one%20of%20those%20people%20who%20believe%20that%20things%20come%20across%20our%20paths%20for%20a%20reason.%20So%20if%20you%E2%80%99re%20reading%20this,%20maybe%20consider%20it%20a%20challenge.%20What%E2%80%99s%20an%20area%20of%20your%20life%20where%20you%E2%80%99ve%20been%20very%20firmly%20rooted%20to%20one%20side%20of%20an%20issue?%20Can%20you%20find%20a%20synthesis%20of%20viewpoints%20there?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20thankful%20for%20those%20little%20girls,%20really,%20because%20they%20provided%20a%20moment%20to%20share%20something%20I%E2%80%99ve%20learned.%20Now%20it%E2%80%99s%20time%20to%20share%20something%20I%E2%80%99ve%20made%20%E2%80%94%20and%20I%20think%20you%E2%80%99ll%20love%20it%20as%20much%20as%20I%20did.%20I%20took%20your%20typical%20oreo%20icebox%20cake%20and%20swapped%20out%20the%20oreos%20for%20shortbread%20cookies,%20swapped%20out%20the%20whipped%20cream%20for%20limoncello-spiked%20whipped%20cream,%20and%20piled%20a%20ton%20of%20fresh%20raspberries%20on%20top.%20It%20was%20spring%20in%20a%20bowl%20%E2%80%94%20with%20an%20amazing%20little%20zing,%20subtle%20lemon%20flavor,%20and%20lots%20of%20brightness!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
